Kabanata 9
I woke up with an excruciating and throbbing pain in my skull. Fragments of memories? Or is it just my mere imagination? I'm not sure but it came rushing in my head like puzzles I have to pierce together to see the whole picture.
"Ma'am, ayos lang kayo?" Amy went closer when she saw me stop on the stairs.
"Yes." Umayos ako ng tayo. "Pagod pagod lang sa puyat,"
Inalalayan niya 'ko pababa. Saktong pagpasok ng aso at nakita ako'y dagli siyang tumakbo sa 'kin.
He whimpered and jumped on the couch. I smiled when he moved his head closer, offering comfort.
"Thanks, Cas," I breathed and embraced him.
"Mimi?" he called.
"Hey, baby..."
He ran towards me, inalalayan ko ang braso niya nang sumalampak siya sa sofa at gumapang palapit sa akin.
"Mimi? Why po? Sakit ikaw?"
My heart thumped. Tumango ako sa kanya at ngumiti.
"Yes, Riu. Mimi is fine," I mumbled.
"No..." Umiling siya. His little hands went to my cheek to caress, napapikit naman ako sa tuwa sa haplos niya.
"I'm good, baby. I love you,"
"Love you, Mi!" He smiled cheekily.
My breath quickened, my shoulders tensing until I noticed Riu watching. I smiled gently.
Riu kissed my cheek. "Pagaling, Mimi po,"
"Opo..." I chuckled and pinched his cheek.
"Good morning, Riu, Reev!" that enthusiastic voice echoed.
"Pangit!"
Cas grinned and swooped him up without a struggle.
"Pangit? Ano'ng pangit, gwapo kaya..." He teased and kissed his cheek.
When he's done and our eyes locked, mas nagliwanag ang itsura niya.
"Are you alright?" He asked.
"Hmm..." I nodded.
"No! Yayay si Mimi!" Sirius said.
His brows furrowed. "You're hot, Reev!"
"I know." I smiled a little. "Matagal na."
He gave me a look. Hindi nakikipagbiruan. I chuckled. Umiling siya at ibinaba si Riu.
"Go to Ate Amy, baby. Mimi is sick," utos niya.
"H'wag kang pumasok," aniya.
"I can't." I sighed. "Kaunti lang ang tao sa ospital."
"I will talk to your head." His forehead creased. "You've been on night shift for three days straight, nag-double shift ka pa, tama ba 'yon, Polaris Reeva?"
My lips parted. "No, but–"
"I asked you to eat on time, dinadalhan kita ng pagkain sa ospital because I don't want you to eat past the the clock. I told you not to drink coffee that much, I gave you my number so you can call me when you're bored. Bakit hindi mo magawa? Akala mo ba 'di ko napapansin na iniiwasan mo 'ko ilang araw na?"
My breath hitched. He's right.
I am... avoiding him. For a lot of reasons. First, I was still confused about my past and my relationship with him and I think we're being too fast even if I don't think much of it.
My heart says to go with the flow but the logical part of me...
"Sorry..." I sighed. "S'yempre, 'di ba, may trabaho ka? If I called you in the middle of the night while you were sleeping, e 'di naistorbo ka?"
"You are far more important than that goddamn work, Reev!" He grunted, annoyed.
My heart jumped.
"T-talaga?" I whispered.
He sighed in frustration, nailing siya at muling dinama ang temperatura ko.
"Next time I found out you've been skipping meals, pati sa ospital n'yo magtatrabaho na ako."
Damn, I didn't wake up with dreams yet I woke up with a throbbing headache!
To rest my head, tumingala ako ng bahagya para maisandal ang ulo ko sa sandalan ng sofa, nakapikit at nag-aantay.
Something soft touched my lips.
He kissed me! Napatakip ako sa bibig at nag-init ang mukha.
"Open your mouth," aniya at inalis ang kamay ko.
I followed and opened my lips. He slipped the medicine in my mouth before sitting on the backrest of the couch.
While drinking, I was looking up at him.
I coughed when I saw how intense that was.
"Careful," paalala niya't umigting ang panga.
"May trabaho ka pa, 'di ba?" I asked when I recovered.
"Na kay Wave ang sasakyan. I was driving around with the tricycle."
"Oh!" I smiled. "Na-miss ko sumakay sa tricycle mo."
"Sa akin? 'Di mo na-miss sumakay?" he asked lightly.
Heat blossomed on my cheek.
"H-hey! Porket naghalikan na tayo–"
He lowered his head and angled his face for a kiss. I gasped and smacked him.
"Caspian!" I hissed. "Behave!"
He shot his brow up. "Nah, only Caspian the dog will behave if you ask him to but this Caspian... won't." He smiled handsomely.
"Don't flirt with me!" I scoffed and looked away. "May sakit ako!"
"Hmm, sure." "You should rest first."
I squealed when he carried me in a bridal way in his arms without warning. Nahampas ko siya.
"Caspian!"
"Settle down, beautiful. Don't wiggle too much, malaglag ka."
My lips pursed and let him be. Yumakap ako sa batok niya at hinayaan siya. I rested my head in his warm chest. He smelled so good. Parang akala mo hindi namasada buong umaga! Fresh na fresh!
Truth was, I missed him. It's been a few days since we saw each other. The next few days, I wanted to clear my head and refused to meet him which he respected.
Then, he'll leave.
He kicked the door slightly to open. He fixed the blankets and checked my temperature.
"Ang kulit kasi," he sighed. "Nasaan ang mga bimpo?"
I pointed the drawer. Tumayo siya't lumapit.
"Sleep first," paalala niya. "Kukuha lang akong pamunas."
When he left, my gaze followed his built.
When he asked me last night if he could visit, I didn't have the heart to say no.
Na-miss ko siya.
Gusto ko siya.
Tama ba 'to? Hindi rin ako sigurado. Basta komportable ako sa kanya. Masaya ako kasama siya. I've only known him now not even a month ago but I felt like I do, for a very long time.
Probably, we are because of common friends but the past but it somehow felt deeper.
"Mimi! Take a bath!"
"Baby, what are you doing here?" I asked. He crawled on the bed and went beside me.
"Ligo, Mimi!" aniya, namumungay ang mata.
"Mimi's sick, love. Si Ate Amy na lang ang magbath sa 'yo?"
"No! I want Mimi!" He sulked.
"But you might get sick because of Mimi, Sirius."
"Init ikaw, Mimi?"
"Yes, Sirius." I smiled. "I can't take a bath with you, baka mahawa ka."
Lumungkot lalo ang mata niya. "Wawa si Mimi ko,"
My heart melted. "Aww... don't worry, baby. Kapag magaling na si Mimi, ako na ulit mag bath sa 'yo."
"Riu? What are you doing here, young man?"
"He wants me to bath with him, ayaw sa Ate niya."
"I want Mimi," Sirius sulked.
"Mimi can't take a bath with you, baby. She's sick, ganito na lang..." Inilapag ni Caspian ang planggana sa lapag at inabot ang bata. "Tito will fix Mimi first then ako na ang magliligo sa 'yo? How about that?"
Riu's green eyes brightened. He clapped his hand excitedly.
"Yehey! Take a bath po tayo, Tito?" he chirped.
"Yes, baby. Sit here first, punasan muna natin si Mimi para gumaling siya, hmm?" Malambing nitong sabi sa bata. "Tapos ligo na tayo?"
"Opo!" Sirius hopped beside him. It made me smile.
"Thank you," I murmured.
"Anything for you," he muttered and kissed my forehead, ibinaba niya ang kumot ko at marahang kinuha ang braso ko para mapunasan.
I watched them quietly, my heart full.
They're too adorable to look at. Caspian and Sirius, why does my heart beat this fast?

"WHY would you want us to be secret, Reev?" Isang paos na boses ang narinig ko.
"Babe, you know I can't risk it. She's after us, kapag nalaman niyang tayo na ay baka gumawa ang babaeng 'yon ng hindi maganda. We can't trust her."
I heard him sigh, yumakap siya sa baywang ko at sumiksik sa balikat ko.
"I love you so much, Reev. I won't let her touch even the tip of your hair but please, promise me you'll always stay safe."
"I will," bumulong ako. "I love you, too."
"Congratulations again on your pregnancy, Lars!"
"Thank you, Dra.," I said sincerely. "I didn't expect this but I am really happy!"
"Every baby is a blessing, Lars!" She cheered. "Goodluck sa dinner n'yo mamaya! Balitaan mo ako sa reaksyon ng boyfriend mo."
I sounded so happy.
It was as if my mind was playing tricks on me because the next scene was me getting dragged out of my car, crying, and begging two men to stop hurting me.
I was embracing my stomach, wailing and pleading for mercy.
"S-spare me, please, spare me," I begged. "I-I promise I won't tell!"
"Sorry, sabi ni boss, walang iiwang buhay." He smirked evilly and blood drained my face when I saw a steel pipe in his hand.
I prayed but my prayers weren't heard because the next thing I felt was the splitting and excruciating pain when the steel pipe hit my head.

HABOL ko ang hininga ko pagkagising, I opened my eyes and adjusted myself to the light inside my room.
I froze when I felt something heavy around my waist, when I looked down, I was shock with the sight of Caspian.
He was hugging my waist, nakasubsob ang mukha sa tiyan ko at malalim na natutulog.
I looked at the clock. It was already three in the afternoon.
Why was he embracing me? Why was he in the bed with me?
I tried looking for any negative reaction from me but I didn't have one. I wasn't even uncomfortable. I liked it very much.
I brushed his lustrous black hair.
"Cas," I called lowly.
He groaned, his grip on my waist tightened.
"Caspian, umayos ka ng higa. Come on, dito ka sa unan," I said.
He stirred from his position, to my shock, bigla siyang napaupo at nilingon ako.
"M-masakit pa ang ulo mo?" he panicked.
His eyes were still a bit bloodshot from sleeping when he reached for me.
"I feel better now. Ikaw? Come on, dito ka mahiga sa tabi ko."
His sleepy and soulful eyes watched me as he nodded and crawled closer.
LHe rested his head on the pillow and reached me again.
"Bumaba na," aniya. "Sabi ko kasi sa 'yo, h'wag papabayaan ang sarili. It's not like the job pays a lot for you to overwork yourself."
"Exactly. But short-staffed kasi..." He gave me a look. "Opo, sorry. 'Di na uulit."
"Talaga lang." He flicked my forehead. "Baka kapag nagkasakit ka ulit, magda-janitor ako sa ospital n'yo para bantayan ka."
"Dami mong sideline 'no?" I chuckled. "Baka sa sunod niyan magulat ako mag-magician ka na rin?"
He stopped and thought of it. Sinapok ko na.
"Don't tell me you're considering?!"
"Hmm, why not?" He stared at me. "If it's for you then, I'll try."
My heart raced I thought it'd jump out of my chest. It made me nervous, paano kung marinig niya ang ingay no'n?
I panicked and tried to sit but he pulled me back. I gasped when I fell on his arm. He spooned me closer.
"That's enough time to think, Reev," aniya na hinuli ang chin ko.
"Think of what?" I feigned confusion.
"You're avoiding me," he retorted. Natahimik ako. "Can you tell me why?"
"It's nothing..."
"I gave you space to think, Reev," marahang sabi niya. "Can you tell me now why? May mali ba akong nagawa?"
When I looked at him, I could see the worry in his green eyes. Mapungay 'yon, bakas ang pag-aalala.
"If there was anything I did that hurt you or I don't know, did I make you uncomfortable? Can you please tell me? Please? Para kapag may mali akong nagawa, babaguhin ko. Mas aayusin ko, Reev, kung may hindi ka gusto sa 'kin. Aayusin ko."
His words stunned me. I stared at him with wonder. He was anxious.
"Cas..."
"Did my kisses scare you?" he asked. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I know I'm too fast–"
I leaned in to kiss him briefly. His lips parted. Mas namungay ang mata niya.
"I just think we're being too fast," I mumbled.
"Hmm?"
"I'm still confused," I confessed. "About everything. Do'n kay Cheska, do'n sa lalaki, sa atin. I can't deny this to myself but we're flirting, aren't we?"
He blinked and then nodded.
"I'm flirting with you, yes," he admitted.
"But you had something for someone in the past? The nurse?"
His lips parted and sighed.
"Reev, about that–"
"Gusto kita, Cas," I admitted. His lips parted more.
"R-really?" He swallowed, his tone hopeful. "You liked me?"
Tumango ako. "I'm attracted to you, Cas. But I don't want to be your rebound."
He panicked. He shook his head continuously.
"You are not my rebound!" he said hastily. "You never are, Reev. I like you!"
It was my turn to get startled.
"I know you're confused." Inabot niya ang pisngi ko. "And I understand if you won't believe me but I lo–like you, Reev. Gustong-gusto kita at gusto kong patunayan sa 'yo 'yon."
I swallowed. "Ayoko maging rebound–"
"God, no," he said desperately. "You are not a rebound. You will never be."
I stared at him. "Can I believe you?" I asked hopefully.
He nodded. "You can trust me. I'll help you remember but we shouldn't force it, ang sabi ng doktor–"
"You are talking to a doctor?" I asked.
Tumango siya. "I asked about your condition and they said people who suffered from amnesia shouldn't force themselves to remember. It will be bad for you so we will take this slow, okay? Are you seeing a doctor?"
"Nagpapa-check up ako monthly," I admitted.
"No memories?"
"There are glimpses," I admitted. "Pero 'di ako sigurado if memory 'yon o baka pinagti-tripan lang ako ng isip."
I rested my cheek in his arm comfortably. He pulled me close and embraced me.
"May sakit ako, baka mahawa ka,"
"Ayos lang," bulong niya. "Para dito lang ako sa tabi mo hangga't gusto ko."
I chuckled and smacked him. "Pero naguguluhan pa rin ako, Cas,"
"Ako rin." He let out a heavy sigh. "But can you give me time to prepare? I promise I'll help you and God, Reev, you are not a rebound."
My lips pursed.
"But the nurse? And you said you had a child–"
"Do you trust me?" mahinahon niyang tanong.
Walang pagdadalawang-isip na tumango ako.
"Yes," I agreed. I know I'm trusting him blindly but heck, I want to risk! I can't even explain why I felt this way.
It made him smile.
"Thank you," he mumbled. "I swear, hindi kita bibiguin. 'Di na kita sasaktan...ulit."
I didn't get to hear the next words clearly because the next thing I knew was our lips clashing, kissing, and tasting each other's mouth. His taste was addicting and it felt hot.
I have hots for him.
He pulled himself up and towered me.
I grasped his hair when he bit my lip, may malamyos na ungol ang kumawala sa labi ko. I groaned and parted my mouth more, he caressed my nape as his kisses traveled to my jaw down the crook of my neck.
"Please be my girl, babe," he whispered.
My heart raced.
"What?"
"Be my woman," he breathed. "No, damn. Sorry, I'm fast again. I'll court you–"
"Sinasagot na kita," I snapped. His lips parted. Napatitig ako ro'n.
"Really?"
"Yes." I touched his nape. "Now, kiss me again."
Our lips crashed again. His breath tickled me. I grunted and parted my lips when I felt his large palm on my stomach. I gasped and held his hand to guide him down when the door slammed open.
"Mimi! Tito!" A singsong voice echoed.
Sa gulat ay nasampal ko si Caspian. The smack echoed so loud it stopped us both.
"O-oh, God! I'm sorry–"
"Higa ako! Higa!" Sirius was jumping to get up the bed kaya mabilis na naupo si Caspian at binuhat ito. He kissed his cheek and let him sat in between us.
"Love kita but I didn't like the entrance this time, kiddo," reklamo ni Caspian, pinanliliitan ako ng mata kaya nauwi ako sa tawa, may paumanhin pa rin ang tingin.
"Sorry..." I mouthed. His lip twitched.
"Pahalik mamaya," he mouthed. I nodded excitedly but realized Riu had been watching us both.
His grin widened when he caught my eyes.
"Wow! Mimi, Tito and baby Sirius!" Riu chanted.
"Happy family!" He exclaimed and somehow, it soothed something in me.

It was an annual event in the hospital.
From: Caspian
Miss you, Reev. I'm sad, look! :(
To: Caspian
Miss you too, don't be sad, nand'yan naman si Riu. Kasama mo siya?
From: Caspian
Yes, babe. He's been eating adobo and tokwa, parang ikaw. Mas namimiss tuloy kita :(
My heart melted, ngumisi ako at kinikilig na nagtipa.
To: Caspian
Just one week, Cas. Uwi ako kaagad d'yan.
From: Caspian
Riu, Caspian, the dog, and Caspian, your handsome babe miss you so much! Uwi na, Mimi! :(((((
PS: Maraming :((((( kasi sad na sad ako.
PPS: May TT____TT kasi naiiyak na rin ako.
I cackled. He's very silly.
So, sobrang dami naming ginawa. We only got time to rest kapag lunch time o kaya ay may fifteen minute break at pagkatapos ay magtatrabaho na naman.
"Nurse Lars, pakibigay naman kay Doc Assuncion," utos ng head at inabot ang tray.
Habang papunta ay nadaanan ko ang nurse na nahulugan ng patient charts kaya ibinaba ko muna ang tray at tumulong.
"Salamat, Miss!" pasalamat niya nang mailapag ko ang chart sa station nila.
"Welcome." I looked back with a smile but got confused when her eyes widened.
"O-oh, ikaw pala 'yan, Miss Reyes!" she beamed.
My forehead creased. "You... know me?"
She smiled. "Oo naman! Paanong makakalimutan kita, eh, ang tagal kitang pasyente do'n sa dati kong ospital."
Her smile faded. "Sorry, wala ka pa ring..."
"You're my nurse?" I asked. Hindi siya umimik at umawang ang labi.
"O-oh..." Nag-iwas siya. "Naku, ah, salamat sa tulong, Miss. Mauna na pala ako–"
"Wait, nurse!" I ran after her. "You were my nurse before?"
"Hindi, Miss. Naku, pasensya na at ulyanin na ata ako–"
"Miss, please!" Hinarangan ko siya nang mauna. Natigilan siya. "Yes, ako si Polaris Reyes. You are my nurse?"
"I'm a nurse, too," I shared. "And yes, wala akong maalala... can you tell me what really happened–"
"Naku, Miss, bawal–"
"Bawal? Eh, ako ang pasyente, 'di ba?" I asked. When she still looked worried, ipinakita ko ang ID sa kanya. "I'm Polaris Reeva Reyes. I came from Casa Amara. I lost my memories but I learned I got taken to the hospital because someone tried to kill me and hit me with a metal pipe. Aside from that, walang nagsasabi sa 'kin ng totoo but... can you..."
I pleaded with my eyes.
She sighed.
"Please, Nurse? I deserve to know the truth about what happened to me from my former nurse, right? Just for peace of mind."
She was still hesitating.
"Please? Please..." I breathed. "I just want to know."
I took the tray to the doctor first before we went outside to talk. I handed her a cup of coffee.
"I'm so sorry for your loss," she started.
"L-loss?" My forehead creased.
She sighed. "Pati 'yon, 'di mo alam?"
I shook my head. "Ano'ng... nawala?"
She licked her lip. 'Hindi dapat ako–"
"Kung hindi ikaw, sino?" I asked. "No one wanted to tell me. I used to accept but now? I want the truth. I deserved it."
I waited patiently until she spoke.
"When you were sent to our hospital, you were severely injured. A hopeless case. Hindi biro ang ginawang paghampas ng tubo sa ulo mo." Umiling siya.
I already knew it but coming from someone else's perspective, the pain came back.
"Hindi ka naman namin kaagad maoperahan para sa kalagayan mo, kritikal ka pati na rin ang anak mo. Kapag napahamak ka, damay siya. One mistake then we'll risk both of your lives."
My breath hitched.
"A-anak?" My voice broke.
If I had a child then...
She nodded. "Hindi mo rin..."
I shook my head endlessly, my eyes hurting from the threatening tears.
"You were pregnant when you got into the incident, Miss, tapos na-comatose ka pa. Sobrang hina ng katawan mo at pati na rin ang kapit no'ng baby, it's a miracle nga na hindi siya kaagad bumitaw."
"Bumitaw?" nanginig ang boses ko. "What do you mean?"
I paced back and forth.
"He stayed with you, he's brave and fought hard but unfortunately, you have to give birth or unless, mapapahamak kayong dalawa. The baby was premature when he was born but then..."
"T-then?" Nabasag ang boses ko.
"We all thought he'd make it but an hour after you gave birth, he died," she said.
"Y-you're lying, right?"
"No, but fortunately you–"
"Stop." I shook my head.
"Pero, Miss, buhay–"
"I don't care if I lived! My child is dead! I'd rather be dead!" I exclaimed, my voice broken. I could feel the throb starting in my temple until it spread all over my skull.
I gasped. Nasapo ko ang ulo.
"Miss–"
"S-stop! Ayoko na marinig! Stop!" I exclaimed when the pain started to feel unbearable that she became blurry and my world's spinning.
"Ayos ka lang ba? Miss!" Ginagap niya 'ko pero muli akong umatras.
"N-no! No, please." I cried and tried grasping the wall for balance but the pain made me want to hit my head on the wall. It felt like breaking.
