Curiosity_Naivety

Funny how history repeated itself.

Kokushibo had once shared something with y/n.

It was after her Father died, while he was helping her make her way back home to her brothers and her sick Mother.

Three days. It took three days for Kokushibo to turn into a demon when he first received blood from Muzan while he was a Demon Slayer.

Back then, as the dull eyed y/n slowly made her way back home with the demon supporting her, she could only imagine how much it hurt.

After the battle with the Upper Moon, she got to experience every single thing he had all those centuries ago.

Two vials of his blood. That was what Kokushibo had given to y/n, fulfilling his part of the deal.

Y/n doubted she would be able to get it to Tanjiro herself so she would have Shiori take it to him.
That is... if the cat could get to it alive.

As for y/n's part of the deal...

She would become a demon.

This wasn't the first time she'd had to swallow so much of a demon's blood though this time, it was far larger an amount than what she was used to.

The pain was nothing new, her body feeling as though it was being ripped apart from the inside out but it was never something that she was able to get used to. All y/n could do was bear the pain.

The process wouldn't kill he'd, that'd been confirmed from the several other times she'd been exposed to Muzan's blood, but it hurt her just as much as it would any other person.

It was a surprise to her, even through the blinding pain, that Kokushibo had stayed with her.

He held her as though she were a small child, allowing her to squeeze his hand and simply staying there without saying a word.

He had moved to a cave before the sun could rise but as soon as night fell once more, he wrapped y/n up in his kimono and left to go get her some water.

Y/n occasionally did manage to fall asleep, her dreams plagued with a voice which didn't belong to her a memories which weren't hers either.

But in the end, it was three days.

Three days.

Three days and y/n still wasn't a demon.

She couldn't become a demon, Kokushibo realized that when y/n had calmed down and all traces of Muzan's blood had gone poof from her body.

"I'm going to become strong!" was what she had told him all those years ago when they first met.

That teary eyed little girl who had left home just for some soba and was ready to shout profanities at a demon over twice her size.

Kokushibo smiled gently, patting the sleeping y/n's head as she rested peacefully for the first time in 72 hours, "You did it. You did exactly as you said you would. I'm... very proud of you."

Almost as though she could hear him, y/n smiled a little in her sleep as she grabbed her teacher's wrist and enjoyed the coolness of his hand resting on her face.

There was still some time before the sun would rise. Kokushibo could stay with her a little longer.

When y/n woke up, Kokushibo was gone.

The sun was up and all her teacher left was the two vials of Muzan's blood had been placed in a small bag along with some food which y/n only took a bit of, knowing that it would take some time for her to get to the closest town.

Her sword which was now safely back in its scabbard was resting near her and her broken mask was with it, having been cleaned up a little. It would only cover her nose and mouth now but y/n didn't mind at all. It wasn't like she needed it anymore.

Y/n had rested a little while longer before getting up and leaving the cave with her things, returning her sword to its spot at her side.

She'd been on the verge of death when she'd first been fed Muzan's blood but the blood clearly did its thing. Though y/n hadn't turned into a demon, most of her injuries had been healed.

The torn remains of her white haori and her very much damaged uniform in addition to her blood soaking it made it a little difficult to see but there were still some deep cuts that needed to be tended to. Smaller ones as well but the life threatening ones had been taken care of.

Y/n was quick to do so before beginning to make her way back in the direction she thought that the Butterfly Estate was in.

This was the right way. Probably.

She was still in an awful lot of pain, in between the few injuries left from her fight with her teacher as well as having taken in so much of that man's nasty blood.

But she couldn't stay here. She had limited time.

Y/n had told Shiori that after a week, she could go looking for her and try to lure her into the sun. If that didn't work, she requested that Shiori have someone come and finish her off while she still had her humanity.

Besides, if y/n were to stop for too long.
She wouldn't be able to get back up.

Y/n wasn't sure how long she walked but she just kept moving. It reminded her of the time she spent on her own after Kokushibo had left her to get stronger on her own.

But... things were different now.

She wasn't punching holes in demons after all.

How long had she been walking though?

It'd likely been a while.

Y/n squinted, recognizing Giyuu of all people up ahead.

Yeah, definitely a while.

She recognized Shiori upon his shoulder, the sight bringing a weak little smile to her face. He spotted her a few seconds after she spotted him, and she managed a wave.

"Oh... you're both here..." she said quietly before her legs finally gave out, exhaustion taking ahold of her.

"Y/n!" the Water Hashira shouted.

Giyuu wasted no time running to the fallen y/n, crouching beside her. He was saying something but his voice seemed muffled. Y/n was tired...

"I'm glad to see you." she mumbled as she reached up to give the frantic Shiori on the dude's shoulder a pat, "Give me a couple minutes, m'kay? I've just gotta... sleep a while..."

Girlie went completely limp and Giyuu dead🍑 thought she was dead for a quick second. Shiori too.

"No! Y/n!" Shiori cried.

Giyuu stared at the motionless girl in disbelief.

"...y/n...?"

Was she...?

A loud snore from y/n interrupted his thoughts.

Shiori look bewildered, "What the...? SINCE WHEN DID SHE SNORE!? Y/N! OI, Y/N!!!!"

Giyuu lifted a finger to his lips to shush the cat and she got the point. Shiori huffed, glaring down at y/n.

"Hmph, I'll yell at her later." she huffed but seemed happy regardless and Giyuu lifted the sleeping y/n and hurried on over to the Butterfly Estate.

When y/n awoke, there was silence.

But her hand... someone was holding it.

Y/n slowly turned her head and stared at Aoi who sat beside her bed, her hand grasping y/n's.

She stared in silence, processing the sight.

"Wh-WHA???? Aoi-san!" y/n sputtered, face burning up with embarrassment, "What— when—?!"

Aoi slowly awoke, blinking sleepily and looked up to see a very much awake y/n shaking violently with a mortified expression.

"Y/n, you're awake!" Aoi exclaimed and the young demon slayer squeaked when she was grabbed, dragged into a hug.

'Oh... this feels nice.' she thought with round eyes, "Where am I? What happened?"

"You're at the Butterfly Estate!" Aoi explained, grasping both of y/n's hands in hers as the girl slowly recognized her surroundings, "Tomioka-san brought you here a day ago to have your injuries treated when he found you wandering around! We were all so scared— you looked awful! Even worse than you did after the incident at Yoshiwara!"

"Oh, so I passed out." y/n realized.

She sighed heavily, looking down in shame.

"M'sorry..."

"What're you apologizing for?"

"I let my emotions get the best of me and ended up getting cut up way more than I should've... and it must've freaked Shinobu-san out, seeing me all bloody like that." y/n mumbled, "And then Muzan's blood too... ugh..."

The girl grimaced as she remembered the awful taste, gagging a little as the taste came right back.

"Huh."

Uh-oh. Did y/n say that out loud?

She swallowed hard and looked away nervously, "Aha... so you see... the thing is that I was-"

Before she could finish, the door to the room flew open and in came Sanemi. He practically threw Aoi out of the way as he grabbed y/n's face and pulled on her cheeks.

"You idiot, what do you think you were doing, huh?!" Sanemi demanded, "Staying away for six damn days without telling anyone anything!!! And sending Shiori away as well? You're a fool!"

"I'm sorry!" y/n whined, "But I had to go by myself, I couldn't risk Shiori getting hurt!"

"AND YOU WERE COVERED IN BLOOD AND CUTS WHEN YOU GOT BACK!!! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU DOING, HUH?!"

"Well you always prioritize offense over defense so I thought I could do the same! I don't mind a few scars...!"

"I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU NOT TO DO THAT, YOU COULD'VE BEEN KILLED YOU MORON!!!"

"I'm sorryyyy!!!" y/n apologized.

"Tch, where were you anyways?" Sanemi questioned as he let go of y/n's face, his tsuguko rubbing her face with a teary frown.

"I was... erm..." y/n couldn't look Sanemi in the eye, "So... uhm... you see, I, uh, I was kinda..."

'Finish at least one damn sentence you buffoon...!' y/n shrieked internally, 'Stop mumbling and stuttering like a child already!'

"She was off fighting Upper Moon One." Shiori stated from where she was resting at the edge of the bed, "He forced her to consume his blood after she'd lost and tried to turn her into a demon."

Both Aoi and Sanemi slowly turned their heads to look at the cat while y/n stared in dismay.

Shinobu, Sumi, Naho, Kiyo, and Kanao who were all standing in the doorway stared as well.

Shiori looked up, "What?"

"Shiori!" y/n protested, "You promised!"

"Yeah. To keep quiet until after you got back or were turned." Shiori replied, "And look, you're back."

"He tried to turn you into a WHAT?!" Sanemi demanded and y/n sighed heavily.

"Urgh... the key word here is tried. You see, I've been exposed to Muzan's blood several times before yet I've never turned into a demon." y/n explained quietly, "I guess I've built up an immunity over all this time so I'm good."

"Okay, but the real question is how." Shinobu pointed out, wandering over to y/n's bedside, "Y/n? Is there something that you want to tell us?"

The girl swallowed hard and nodded.

"You see... here's the whole story.

Y/n went on to explain her connection with Upper Moon One and how he'd been the one to train her long before she had even met Sanemi.

She explained how he'd give her Muzan's blood, how he taught her his breathing style, their promise as well as their deal and the outcome of Kokushibo's recent and last attempt to turn y/n.

All of it.

By the time she finished, there was silence.

Y/n bowed her head out of shame, "I'm terribly sorry... I would've told you sooner but I didn't think it was important since he would've killed me eventually. I didn't think he'd actually try to turn me into a demon or that I'd turn out to be immune."

"YOU-" Shinobu shoved a pillow in Sanemi's face before he could say anything, her expression serious but still gentle.

"I can't quite say it's fine. We'll have to discuss this with Oyakata-sama after you recover. Until then, nobody in this room says a word about this, alright?" Shinobu gave everyone in the room a stern look and they all nodded, "Good."

"Well, I guess it's okay if nobody else knows..." y/n murmured then froze. She slowly turned her head to the window and everyone followed her gaze.

Zenitsu, who was passing by outside on a walk through the garden, had stopped right outside the open window and stared in the room in shock.

Y/n deadpanned, 'You've gotta be kidding me.'

He sheepishly smiled, "...I know."

- Shinobu made Zenitsu swear to stay quiet but Inosuke was being nosy and Tanjiro was concerned about all the yelling so they know now as well

- Tanjiro was so confused when y/n gave him the two vials of Muzan's blood but was grateful when it clicked. Y/n got headpats from him
(Why tf did that say headboard???)

- Sanemi totally didn't cry when he saw the condition y/n was in after being brought into the Butterfly Estate

- to those who know who was originally there to carry y/n back, I'm so sorry 😞
