Y/n was back at 100% within about a month. The larger injuries had left scars but she was back to work!

Of course, Sanemi wouldn't let her go anywhere by herself so she was stuck on duo missions with him.

But... uh...

Y/n broke her sword. During one of her missions.

That's how she ended up at the Swordsmith Village.
She slept the entire way there and headed straight for the hotsprings after her swordsmith gave her a time for when her new sword would be completed.

She fell asleep in the water several times and hadn't realized she was drowning until Shiori dunked her head underwater and bit her.

It was after the fourth time that Shiori ordered y/n to get the hell out of the hot springs and take a walk.

She obeyed and ended up falling asleep in a tree.
So yeah! The first day was rather uneventful.

The next morning, she was surprised to encounter Tanjiro as she was out looking for something.

"Y/n! Hello!" the demon slayer exclaimed when he spotted y/n. She seemed to pause before looking at him curiously.

She wore what was left of her mask, her nose and mouth completely covered. Tanjiro was almost startled for a second, mistaking the oni mask's snarl as y/n's actual face.

He let out a sigh of relief when y/n's eyes brightened and she happily waved to him, "Hello, Tanjiro! What brings you out here?"

"Kanroji-san said there was some sort of weapon out here that makes people stronger!" Tanjiro explained with a cheerful smile, "Hehe, it feels like a treasure hunt!"

"Weapon...? Treasure hunt?" y/n echoed, "Sounds fun! Mind if I join you? Shiori ran off after a mouse so I'm sorta on my own again."

"Of course!" Tanjiro breathed, happy that the young lady wanted to join him, "Did you come to the village for a sword?"

Y/n nodded, "Yes, the swordsmith who forges my blades kept my first one. I asked her to hold it for me until the one she gave me breaks but she's sick so I can't retrieve it just yet."

"Your first blade?" Tanjiro questioned.

That weird lack of scent on y/n shifted to one of affection, nostalgia and the slightest bit of sadness.

"My teacher gave me a sword before he left me on my own. I didn't wanna break it, since it was old, so I left it here to be restored after I first joined the Demon Slayers Corps." y/n explained, "It's over 300 years old y'know."

"300 years!" Tanjiro breathed, "That's amazing."

"A little nerve wracking as well." y/n chuckled, "It was in awful condition, but it was so well made, it didn't break during my first months of using it. Even though it was so old!"

"Your teacher must be super amazing!"

"He is. He really is." y/n replied. Though the lower half of her face was covered, Tanjiro could tell that she was smiling.

However, that smile faded(much to Tanjiro's disappointment) when y/n noticed someone.

"Oh? Who's that?"

Tanjiro looked past y/n, "A kid and... a Hashira! Who is he... he's the Mist Hashira isn't he?"

Y/n tensed up, "Huh?"

The duo watched curiously, realizing that the kid and the Mist Hashira seemed to be having a disagreement.

Yeah, that became crystal clear when the Mist Hashira proceeded to ♀🐶 slap the kid and grabbed him by the front of his clothing after he fell.

Y/n seemed to freeze, eyes wide.
The hell? WTF, WHY DID HE DO THAT??

She only snapped out of her shock when Tanjiro ran forwards with a, "Hey, you! Stop that!"

Y/n's voice caught in her throat and she frowned, wondering why she couldn't speak. On top of that, why was her hand shaking so much? Why was she so nervous?

"Let go of him!" Tanjiro snapped, grabbing Muichiro's arm. Mm, bad idea buddy.

"Your voice is so annoying. Who are you?" the Mist Hashira's voice were cold and his words, sharp.

"What do you think you're doing to this kid?! You can't just hit him like that! Let go of him!" Tanjiro exclaimed as he tried to get the Hashira to let go of the boy, 'He has thinner arms and he's smaller than I am but he's strong!'

"You let go." Muichiro stated simply then proceeded to elbow the unfortunate Tanjiro in the chest.

"💩!" y/n groaned before running over, "Tanjiro!"

She immediately went to the boy's side, knowing that he was likely in a lot of pain but still asked, "Are you-?"

The coughing fit that came from him in response was enough of an answer for her and she winced.

"Yep, definitely not okay." she murmured then turned her gaze to Muichiro, "You can't just go hitting people left and right like that, they both could've been seriously hurt."

'I would say that the second hit was entirely self-defense and it was a good hit too but I'd be showing an awful lot of favortism.' y/n thought warily.

"It's not my fault that he's so weak." Muichiro replied simply, "It's honestly a surprise that he even became a Demon Slayer in the first place."

Y/n flinched, 'Urgh! And with that calm ass tone of his, it's like he's stating facts...! Damn it!'

"First of all, let go of that boy!" y/n demanded with a small frown, "If you don't, I'll force you to do so!"

Muichiro regarded y/n for a moment and she stared back fearlessly, internally begging her late Mother to lend her some of her pure badassery as well as confidence.

She silently thanked her Mom when Muichiro let go of the little boy who collapsed onto the ground and began to cough violently, y/n kneeling next to him.

"Hey, are you okay?" she asked, concern in her voice.

"I'm fine! Get away from me!" the little boy said sharply, "I'm not giving this key to anybody, even if I'm tortured! It will break soon!"

Y/n seemed to be exasperated now, "Okay, you're well enough to be sassy. That's a good sign I guess."

Muichiro's brows raised when y/n said those words, the h/c haired young lady firmly demanded that the little boy let her know if he was seriously injured.

"Have you even been tortured before?" Muichiro questioned, that weird feeling of familiarity going away, "Most adults can't endure it so it's impossible for a snot-nosed brat like you to be able to. You're only a dumb kid who doesn't know his place."

"Hey!" Y/n almost slipped up and said Muichiro.

"So what if it breaks? Just make another one. Every second you waste whining and grumbling, people are dying." Muichiro continued, "Unlike you people, a Hashira's time is extremely important. You'd understand if you actually thought a little. Swordsmiths can't fight. Swordsmiths can't save lives. Making weapons is all they're good for."

He extended his hand with a, "Come on. Give me the key. You should learn to know your place. You're not a baby anymore."

'Wha... what happened to him?!!!' y/n thought in distress, 'What the hell is wrong with him—?! He's acting like—'

The little boy who stood beside y/n seemed to tremble a little and y/n got up, standing in front of him protectively.

Before she could speak, Tanjiro got tf up and slapped Muichiro's hand away with an angry expression.

"What's this about?" Muichiro inquired, unfazed.

Ugh, so cold!

"This just doesn't sit right with me! What about consideration? You can't forget to be considerate! That's just cruel!" Tanjiro shouted at the Hashira.

"Am I acting cruel?" Muichiro asked, "You..."

"ARE CORRECT!" Tanjiro interrupted, "Everything you said is right but even if you're not wrong, swordsmiths have a very important job! They possess different skills from swordsmen that are equally amazing! If they don't forge swords for us, we wouldn't be able to do anything at all!"

Y/n was acutely aware of someone listening in on them but was a bit more focused on Tanjiro. She was so proud of him to be honest, she could hug him.

"Swordsmen and swordsmiths need each other! They fight the same fight! We all fight every day in different places and ways!" Tanjiro continued.

"Sorry. I don't have time to talk about dumb stuff." Muichiro stated and y/n panicked.

"Hey, Tanjiro, look-!"

Too late.

Muichiro knocked his ass out.
