Y/n sat beside Rengoku, swaying a little bit as she tried not to throw up.
The Flame Hashira noticed and smiled gently at y/n, "Motion sickness?"
"...yeah..." y/n groaned, tipping over and resting her head on her friend's shoulder, "I think I'm gonna hurl..."
"Please don't throw up on me-"
"I'll try not to..."
Y/n and Rengoku had boarded a train together, one they probably weren't supposed to be on but y/n didn't care.
After Rengoku had chatted with the two bento vendors, and bought an insane amount of bento to bring along, the two hopped on a train together.
It was a moment before the conductor, or whoever tf this dude was, threw open the door to the area they were chilling in.
"Who are you two!?" he demanded.
"We're bento vendors!" Rengoku exclaimed, gesturing to the many bento boxes they had with them.
"Ughhhh..." y/n groaned, having planned on saying something but gave up due to the threat of throwing up.
"Oh yeah, not suspicious at all." Shiori scoffed and the Conductor paled.
"A... a talking cat...?"
"Just act like it's normal. It's a little easier to take that way." Shiori told the man.
"We have business with the Mugen Train or whatever." y/n mumbled.
"The Mugen Train? It's no longer at the shed. It was moved elsewhere for maintenance." the Conductor told them.
"Is that so?" Rengoku murmured as y/n let out a frustrated groan, Shiori licking the miserable Demon Slayer's hand in an attempt to comfort her.
"Yeah, that one just over there." the Conductor pointed out the window to a building with light coming from it.
"Hm... alright then!"
Next thing y/n knew, she was at the end of the train with Rengoku. The Flame Hashira was carrying the bento boxes, having wrapped them up with a purple cloth.
"Well, we'll be getting off here!" Rengoku exclaimed with a smile.
"Wait what-"
Before the Conductor could protest, y/n and Rengoku hopped off the train, pretty much flying as they cleared an insane amount of land in a single leap.
They landed on the train tracks outside the big ol shed thing where the train was located.
Y/n was still kinda out of it but was still rather happy to be on the ground again.
Shiori didn't have to see y/n's face, the way she would sigh every now and then telling her exactly what she needed to know.
"Quit being guilty! The kid deserved it!" Shiori snapped, startling y/n.
"I didn't say anything!"
"You didn't have to! No apologizing!"
"But I let my emotions get the best of me and I should really apologize for-"
"No!"
"But-"
"NO! >:("
Y/n pouted a little but didn't protest any further deciding to ignore the cat.
'That girl... I truly envy her.' y/n thought, smiling as she recalled better times, 'To never have to encounter a demon a day in her life, I hope it stays the same.'
"Woah! It's a train!" Shiori breathed, planting her front paws on top of y/n's head as she marveled at the train before them, "Y/n, look!"
"It's... it's really big." y/n stated.
"That's what she-" Shiori began to say but was cut off when someone else arrived.
"Hm? What are you two doing here?" asked a man who just spotted the Demon Slayers.
Y/n only waved, "Oh! Hello! We came here to deliver some bento!"
"Oh?" the dude blinked at the sight of the concerning amount of bento boxes the Flame Hashira had been carrying, "Hey, everyone! These two brought us bento!"
"OI, I'M-" Shiori began.
"Hush, no more talking privileges."
">:((("
Shiori, clearly upset, ran off and went go find a mouse to bully a bit.
Y/n helped with handing out the boxes while Rengoku was chatting with one of the people, y/n began to space out again.
Another little memory was tickling at her brain and she wished she knew how to swat away things that had no form.
She heaved a sigh, 'Geez... I'm regretting my decision to come along...'
Y/n's shoulders grew heavy, '...I miss Shinazugawa-san. I wanna go back to the dojo.
Elsewhere...
Sanemi sneezed violently.
"The fuck?"
Back with y/n...
Maybe helping with something would help distract her a little bit... yeah!
A distraction!
The h/c haired girl noticed one of the workers heading one direction and she ran over to join him with a, "Hey, can you tell me about trains-"
The man seemed confused, "Why would you want to know about trains..."
"Ah, well, I grew up in the mountains and this would be the first time I've seen one like this." y/n explained then sighed, "And when I get on one... I get really sick.."
"Oh! That'd be motion sickness!" the man laughed as they rounded the corner, "Don't worry, it happens to people sometimes. A little bit of fresh air and a book to read can help! In fact... I have one in the office you can use!"
"What's the book about?"
The man hesitated before rubbing the back of his head with an awkward smile, "...cats."
"Cats?"
"Yes, cats."
"Do you like cats?"
"Yeah but they don't like me." the man laughed, "They flee at the sight of me!"
"Sounds like me and people..." y/n said with a weary sigh and the man beside her burst into laughter.
Y/n inhaled sharply but relaxed when the man ruffled her hair, "I get the feeling, kiddo!"
This felt familiar.
"Don't worry, I'll be back soon!"
The h/c haired girl's eyes were round as she heard her Father's laughter in her mind.
For a second, as she stared at the man beside her, she almost thought that it was her Father smiling and laughing beside her rather than this person.
"Tatsu!" the man called as they neared the little office, "We've got bento!"
Y/n halted, 'Wait.'
A bit peeked out from the office with bright eyes, "Really? :o"
As he ran out, Shiori's voice rang out throughout the huge warehouse.
"Y/n, that bald ♀️🐶 is here!" Shiori screeched from above.
Y/n was already moving but was far too late, that Bald Demon from before zooming in and grabbing the poor boy.
'Shit, I was too slow!' y/n thought as that embarrassment to Bald Society dug his long ass nails into the poor kid's stomach.
Dude, CUT YOUR DAMN NAILS.
The boy, Tatsu, didn't even feel the pain until he realized he'd been grabbed and was about to be gutted.
"Demon! There's a demon here!" cawed Rengoku's crow but y/n hardly heard it.
The other folks in the shed ran to see wtf was happening, Rengoku being the first to actually get there aside from y/n.
Y/n held a hand in front of the man who she had walked with, "Stay back."
The Bald Demon spotted y/n first and frowned, "You again? How come you always show up when I'm hunting? Can't you tell these are my hunting grounds?"
Y/n scowled beneath her mask, getting a little impatient, "I'm not a demon."
"Eh?"
"Can't you tell from the damn sword you dumbass?" y/n snapped, gripping the hilt of her blade tighter.
She blinked when a hand rested on her own and looked to her friend. His expression was serious yet still reassuring and y/n got the message, calming herself.
"So if you're a demon slayer... that woman...!" The Bald Demon began.
Y/n nodded, "Yes."
"She's currently recovering from her injuries and the doctors said that there won't be any scars!" Rengoku exclaimed.
"Tch... even if that's the case, she'll be consumed by fear for the rest of her miserable life!" the demon spat.
"Hah, that's where you're wrong!" Shiori shouted from where she was perched on a crate high up, "Y/n-chan, even if talking to her is like talking to a rock, managed to make that woman smile and laugh when she visited! If ya ask me, that woman will be just fine!"
Y/n's tower of self esteem trembled, 'A rock?!'
"Damn cat...!" The Demon snarled and Shiori somehow managed to flip him off, "It doesn't matter, I'll just go finish her off."
Y/n stared at him menacingly.
"Try it."
Mm... maybe not.
"That bento..." the demon murmured, glancing at the box that had been dropped, "I recognize that scent. It came from the train station with those two bento vendors, right?"
Y/n tensed and the Bald Demon noticed, grinning sadistically despite not being able to see her face.
She took a step forward but halted when the Demon shouted, "Stay back!"
"If you want to save those two bento vendors, get to the station before I do." the Bald Demon sneered, "But before I go kill them, I've gotta finish off this brat first...!"
Tatsu was looking at y/n with teary eyes, silently pleading for her help.
But she couldn't move.
She wasn't quite seeing this boy who was about to be killed. Instead, she saw her brother's face. The one she failed to save.
"Don't let the past affect your actions in the present..." Y/n's teacher had told her, "If you get caught up in the past... you may make a fatal mistake in the present and come to regret it so much that it impacts you in the future."
'It's an endless cycle.' y/n thought.
Perhaps... she could cut it off here.
"Y/n, snap out of it already!" Shiori shouted and y/n returned to reality, moving before she could even remember where she was.
The Bald Demon failed to react on time, surprised by y/n's actions and paying the price by having his arms sliced clean off by y/n's blade.
He was forced to let go of the bleeding boy, y/n catching the kid before he could hit the ground.
The demon took the chance to zoom to the side and out to the front of the warehouse before speeding away like Sonic.
"Kyo-san! You go on ahead!" y/n shouted to the Flame Hashira as she lifted the injured boy, "I'll patch up his injuries!"
The Flame Hashira nodded to her before exiting the warehouse while y/n held onto the injured boy.
Y/n exhaled quietly as she glanced at the boy who was crying now, "Don't worry, you'll be okay. I promise."
Hm, she'd promised the same thing to her little brother as he died in her arms.
Hopefully, the little promise wouldn't be broken this time. Hopefully.

By the time y/n got to the station after making sure the boy wouldn't kick the bucket, the Slasher had been beheaded.
But, she wasn't quite out of the woods yet.
"Uhm, excuse me Miss...!"
Y/n had been chatting with a Kakushi but paused to look over her shoulder.
She flinched at the sight of Fuku.
Too nervous and embarrassed to speak, she only hummed as a sign she'd heard.
"I'm really sorry about your brothers." the girl said quietly and y/n halted.
Sorry?
She didn't have to be sorry.
Y/n was the one at fault here.
"I'm sorry for yelling at you..." y/n said quietly, "I lost my cool and that's on me. Besides, you have no reason to apologize."
The masked Demon Slayer pat Fuku on the head with a, "You remind me of one of them."
"One of who?"
Y/n lifted her mask so the younger girl could see her smile, "One of my brothers. Yu-chan. You two are more alike then I initially thought, haha!"
In the end, y/n ended up agreeing to send letters to Fuku since the girl apparently wanted to know more about her.
Y/n couldn't quite understand this since mose people fled at the sight of her.
But it wasn't like she didn't like it either.
.
.
.
"Okay so the woman... Fuku and the man from the warehouse..." y/n murmured as she sat in the seat across from Rengoku, beginning to write a letter to Fuku.
They were on the train now, y/n having removed her mask so she could eat and write at the same time.
"Hm? What about them?" Rengoku asked, enjoying the bento Fuku and her Grandmother had gifted to him and y/n.
They bought a ton too and all of them were just waiting to be eaten.
Shiori was currently dunking her face in one, happily eating the boxed food.
"I'm writing letters to them." y/n explained then waved a hand in the air, "Oyakata-sama always says I should strive to build relationships and get to know people so I'm doing exactly that-"
Y/n paused.
"...why are you crying..."
There were tears streaming down Rengoku's face despite his unwavering radiant smile.
"They're tears of joy! You're moving away from your 'social reject' ways!"
Y/n deadpanned, "Social... reject...?"
"Wait, I-"
"No... no, it's fine..." y/n whispered as the light died from her eyes, "You're just being honest with me... that's fine..."
As a panicked Rengoku frantically tried to cheer y/n up, the Kamaboko Squad was boarding the train.
And the first thing they saw/heard was y/n and Rengoku sitting together while eating bento and yelling 'UMAI!'
Y/n was tearfully shouting it while crying over her food and Rengoku was just... yeah saying it like he usually does.
What a wonderful way to start a trainwreck of a mission, haha!
