A/N: We all know the situation with Eri and Overhaul. So it goes without saying the next chapters continuously talk about a child being mistreated.

...

They were told not to tell anyone of her quirk. Especially not this new ability. Barely anyone knew it. Not even her classmates, at least not most of them.

Kira sat in the dark. In a room with only Nighteye and Aizawa. Knowing what was about to happen was going to be hard for her. They decided it would be best if there were as little people as possible here.

Nighteye opened a case. The fragmented pieces of a small red bullet were inside. It was broken into about ten tiny pieces. Kira only needed one at a time.

The bullets were now harmless, but still contained blood. Making it perfect for Kira's quirk.

"Are you certain this will work?" Nighteye asked. Placing them in the table infront of Kira. "Otherwise you'll be eating evidence."

"Not eating." Aizawa said, glancing over. "Just hold it in your mouth, so if something happens you don't get stuck." He advised.

Kira nodded. "Okay." She said. Any confidence she'd had yesterday was faded away. She was incredibly nervous now.

What if it didn't work?

What if she was too far away. What if she had a mind that Kira just couldn't connect with?

What if she was dead?

The last part stung the back of Kira's mind. It hid there and smoldered in her subconscious. What if she did this, and felt nothing? Absolutely nothing. What if the girl didn't exist any longer.

What would be worse? Kira having to see and feel her pain? Or Kira unable to see anything at all?

What if Eri accidentally revealed their communication? Would they hurt her? Hide her? Sedate her so she couldn't think at all?

There were so many risks.

"You can still back out." Aizawa said. "I'm all for saving the kid... But this could genuinely hurt you Kira."

"You know I can't. Not when I know I can help her." Kira said, shaking her head.

She reached over and took a piece in her hand. It was one of the biggest, the size of a small grain of rice. It felt hard, plastic. It wasn't fully blood, it was much more than that. Kira ignored the fact that she was about to put something filled with chemicals and different materials in her mouth. It was harmless now, quirk wise. But still kinda a gross concept.

She placed it on her tongue and closed her mouth. Taking a deep breath. She closed and then opened her eyes, they turned red.
"Give me a second, it takes a minute to find them if they're far away." She told the two men.

Kira closed her eyes. She saw red light reflected off of her eyelids. She pulled on her headphones, trying to block Aizawa and Nighteye out. So she could focus.

She heard nothing. The hairs on her neck rose in fear as she waited. For anything.

Other than the two pros she heard silence. Nothing. She clinched her jaw, begging for a single peep.

Then she heard it.

Thump

A noise beating in her ears.

Thump thump.

Small but strong, it got louder and louder. Quicker and stronger.

ThumpThump ThumpThump ThumpThump!

A heart beat. It was quick and panicked. Like it came from someone who was scared.

Thump thump.

"I'm getting something." Kira whispered. The two stood at attention. Waiting for another word from Kira. "A heartbeat."

She was alive at least. This was proof of that.

Then with her eyes closed she started to see a fuzzy scene. It wasn't focused yet, her quirk took awhile to fully connect when someone was far away.

"It's cold..."

She heard a very small voice say. Their thoughts like a whisper in her mind.

Eri.

"I'm hungry... I want more food."

Kira clinched her fists. Not saying anything yet. She didn't know what too.

"I've got her." She whispered, like she was scared of the girl hearing. She couldn't, Kira knew that. They could only communicate mentally.

"What's going on? Where is she? What is she doing-"

"Shh." Aizawa said to Nighteye. "Give them a second."

"We don't have a lot of those." Nighteye replied. "We need to figure this out. The sooner we do, the sooner she's saved."

"She's in a room. A kids room, on a bed. There's one door across from her. It's locked, there's no windows." Kira discribed what she could see.

"I'm too scared to ask for food... It's okay... I'll be okay..."

The child thought as she tried to sooth herself. Kira swallowed and breathed in slowly.

"Hello." Kira thought, as gently as she could muster. She didn't want to scare her, she didn't want her to freak out and cause suspicion. She had to be quiet and calm.

"What... What was that?" Eri thought, Kira could feel a spike of fear in her thoughts.

"It's okay. I'm a friend, is this Eri?" Kira asked calmly.

"What... No no I'm scared. I don't like this." Eri whimpered, grabbing her head.

"It's okay Eri. I want to help you." Kira said gently. "It's okay to be scared. But I'm a good guy, I promise."  Kira told her.

"Are you talking to her?" Aizawa asked, putting a hand on Kira's shoulder.

Kira nodded. "She's scared, I'm calming her down. I'm not jumping into any questions." She said with her jaw clinched.

"Good... Guy?" Eri asked, like she didn't understand.

"I want to make you feel better. Help you get somewhere safe. Is that okay? Are you okay with me talking to you?" Kira asked. Hoping to earn her trust.

"Where are you?" Eri asked. "I can't see anyone... The voice... It sounds sweet."

Kira realized that other than herself... This girl might not be exposed to women often. All known members of the Shie Hassaikai were men.

"I'm not in your room with you. I'm talking from far away." Kira told her. "Through your head."

"My... Head?" She asked, bringing a hand up to her forehead. Touching her horn. "I don't know... I don't know what that means. I'm scared."

"It's okay, you don't have to be scared of me. I promise I won't hurt you Eri. I'm your friend."
Kira assured her.

"Friend... I don't remember that word. I'm not good at words. I'm not good." Eri thought, Kira could see her sight move as she wrapped her arms around herself.

"No Eri, you're very good." Kira assured her. "A friend is someone that is good to you." Kira explained using words she knew the girl understood.

"I don't think I have those." Eri thought sadly.

"You will. One day you'll have a whole bunch of friends." Kira promised. She didn't know if she should make promises like this. But she was going to anyways.

And She was going to do whatever it took to make that a reality.

"I don't think so... It's too dark here."

"You have to trust me Eri. There are lots of people who care for you very much. Who want to help you, who want to make the dark go away." Kira told her. Thinking of the room full of pros who vowed to protect her.

"No... No I'm cursed. My mom didn't want me." Eri thought, she was whimpering. Based on how closed her eyes were Kira assumed she was crying.

"Don't say that Eri. Please, you're good." Kira thought. "You're sweet."

"Sweet? Like... Like Apples?" Eri asked.

"Sweeter." Kira thought with a small smile.

"Who are you?" Eri asked Kira.

Kira hesitated. She couldn't tell her her name. If she did by any chance mention it to overhaul, hearing her name would tell him she was communicating with heroes. She was pretty famous right now with that stupid article and everything.

"I can't tell you my name yet... Just call me your friend okay?" Kira said. If anything maybe she could let everyone believe she was Eri's imaginary friend. Someone she made up.

Hopefully they wouldn't think much of it. A lonely sad girl like her... Pretending to talk to someone in her head. They'll assume she went crazy.

As long as Kira kept her from saying or doing anything suspicious.

"Friend? Okay..." Eri thought, laying on her side. "Friend sounds nice. I like the voice. It's soft. I'm less scared now."

Kira could see light stretching as a door was open. Eri shot up and backed to the edge of her bed. Staring at the newcomer.

Overhaul.

A/N: this makes me sad...
