You opened your eyes.

When your vision cleared, the first thing you saw was Tanjiro’s face hovering above you, concern etched into his soft features. The dim lighting of the train flickered across his furrowed brows, and for a second, you almost forgot the chaos that was happening around you. Almost.

"Y/N… are you okay? Did you hurt yourself?" he asked, kneeling beside you and gently tilting your chin to check for injuries. His fingers were surprisingly warm for someone who looked like he spent half his life chasing demons through forests.

You just stared at him.

“…Uhhh, Tanjiro?”

He blinked. “Huh? What’s wrong?”

You deadpanned, the words tumbling out before you could stop yourself.

“YES. SOMETHING'S WRONG.”

“Oh? What is it?”

“WE NEED TO SAVE THE OTHERS, DUMBASS!!”

His entire soul left his body for a moment as he flinched back, practically tripping over his own knees.

“A-Ah… Sorry! I forgot!!”

You groaned, brushing yourself off as you stomped back into the train car. Dust and a few scraps of paper floated around in the stale air.

“Honestly…”

Tanjiro stumbled after you, his expression shifting between panic and awe.

“Wait up, Y/N!”

You were scanning the area, muttering, “Where’s the—OH SHI—”

Tanjiro's voice came from behind you, a shaky edge creeping into his tone.

“Y/N? What’s—”

He followed your gaze and froze.

A massive red, grotesque creature blocked the corridor ahead, limbs twitching unnaturally, its eyes glowing like hot coals. Its skin was mottled and glistening, reflecting the dim light in a sickly, unnatural way. Every muscle seemed to pulse as if it were a living nightmare.

“Okay… well—TAKE CARE, TANJIRO!!”

You waved frantically and bolted in the opposite direction, adrenaline pumping like a festival of caffeine through your veins.

“EHHHH!? Y/N!! WAIT!!”

He dashed after you, but you had already picked up speed, the wooden floor of the train squeaking beneath your frantic steps.

BAM!

You slammed right into something solid and fell back.

“Who the hell—!”

You looked up.

Inosuke, mask on, was rubbing his head. His tousled hair peeked out from under the boar mask, wild and unkempt like a forest storm.

“UGH! What was that!?”

He paused. His eyes, visible through the jagged eye holes, met yours.

“…Y/N?”

You blinked, startled. ‘Wait, what?! He’s already awake?! That fast?? I thought he’d be out for like… five more minutes at least!’

Tanjiro skidded to a stop behind you, nearly colliding with your shoulder.

“Inosuke!! You’re awake!”

Inosuke huffed, flexing his shoulders like he’d been training his whole life—oh right, he probably had.

“Duh. Let’s go find the one who’s controlling the train already!”

You and Tanjiro exchanged a shocked look.

‘He… he actually listened?!’

Both of you:

‘That’s a MIRACLE.’

The three of you sprinted down the corridor until you reached the front of the train. The air smelled of burnt wood and iron, thick and heavy, like the entire car was holding its breath.

You slowed, senses tingling. Something was off. Way off.

‘Okay, this is the part where the creepy guy with the ticket from earlier jumps out with the knife… should I save Tanjiro or just let fate do its thing—’

Your thought was rudely interrupted.

Exactly as expected, the ticket demon lunged at Inosuke, blade gleaming like it had been sharpened on pure malice.

Tanjiro instinctively leapt forward to take the blow.

But you?

You were DONE playing nice.

“NOT ON MY WATCH!!”

WHAM!!

Your fist collided with the guy’s face mid-air. The impact reverberated through your arm, but you barely noticed as he dropped like a sack of potatoes.

Tanjiro and Inosuke froze.

Stars practically sparkled in their eyes.

“Y/N…!”

You huffed, brushing a stray strand of hair from your face, then bent down to pick up a rope lying on the floor. In one smooth motion, you tied the demon’s hands with a precision that would make any seasoned demon slayer raise an eyebrow.

“Stay down, discount Freddy Krueger,” you muttered under your breath, stepping back to admire your handiwork.

The moment one of the boys opened his mouth to say something heroic, you raised a hand.

“Nope. No time for speeches. Let’s go find Enmu and end this fever dream.”

They nodded, following without question, almost like they had no choice. Almost.

As you marched toward the roof hatch, you took a mental inventory: glowing red demon, probably enraged; Tanjiro trailing behind, looking both terrified and confused; Inosuke bouncing around with that ridiculous energy he always carried.

Perfect. Just perfect.

You didn’t see it, but Inosuke whispered to Tanjiro:

“Y/N’s so cool…”

Tanjiro’s lips twitched.

“Terrifying… but cool.”

A shiver ran down your spine, not entirely unpleasant, as you grabbed the edge of the hatch. The metal was cold, unyielding under your fingers. You gave a quick glance down at your companions, making sure they were ready.

Then, with a grunt, you pushed upward.

The roof hatch opened with a screech, letting in the night air, cold and crisp, laced with the scent of the tracks below and smoke from distant fires.

Tanjiro was first to clamber up after you, his legs shaky but determined. Inosuke followed with a yelp, flipping himself over the edge like it was nothing.

You took a deep breath, surveying the top of the train. Shadows danced across the roof, distorted by the flickering lanterns inside, but somewhere out there… Enmu was waiting.

And you were ready.

You wiped a smear of dirt from your cheek, taking a moment to glance at your companions. Tanjiro’s expression was a mix of worry and admiration. Inosuke was practically vibrating with excitement.
The wind whipped through your hair as you crouched low, surveying the length of the train. Every step could be the difference between life and death, but you weren’t about to back down. Not now, not ever.

The night stretched endlessly, shadows moving like living things around the train cars. Every creak and groan made your stomach twist, but you squared your shoulders, tightening your grip on the rope you still held.

You weren’t going to wait for someone else to save everyone. You were the chaos they didn’t know they needed, the spark in the middle of the storm. And right now, the storm was raging.

You glanced back at Tanjiro and Inosuke one last time.

“Let’s do this,” you said.

They nodded, determination shining in their eyes.

Together, the three of you sprinted across the top of the train, ready to face whatever nightmare Enmu had cooked up next.
