Giyu POV:
For the first time in months, I went out into the village.
There was apparently a bazaar going on today, and I wanted to check it out. I knew Tsutako would have loved it. She liked going through buckets of random items, picking some out and inspecting them carefully. I remembered that she'd loved discounts, always bargaining for the best offer.
The bazaar was wildly busy, with people milling about everywhere. There were stalls lined up for so long I couldn't see the end of it, and the smell of street food wafted through the air.
I spotted a crepe stall and went over. There was a small line, but that was fine with me, because it meant I could have a good, long look at the menu.
The chocolate cream one looked appealing, but I knew Tsutako's favourite would be the strawberry pie one.
Then I became indescive. Should I get the one I wanted? Or should I get the one Tsutako would want?
Am I living my life for me, or am I living it for her, all over again?
Deep thoughts burdened my chest and made my heart feel heavy. Suddenly I lost my appetite.
I left the line and instead bought myself a golden, sugary pancake that I knew Tsutako and I would both like.
I munched slowly (to savour it) while I browsed through the endless stalls of trinkets. There was a nice horse book divider, a pretty mug with a picture of a girl that looked like Tsutako painted on it, a library tote bag and some other bits and pieces that I exchanged some gold coins for.
I stuffed everything into the tote bag and left the bazaar, further into town. I spotted a tall, regal shrine at the center of the village and decided to visit it. No harm in visiting a shrine for once, right?
There was a huge, towering building in the center, with beautiful gardens surrounding it. There were notes of prayers and wishes hanging from red-painted racks and there were multiple crystal-water fountains with coins at the bottom.
I took off my shoes and placed them neatly on the shoe-rack, then entered the shrine. The bamboo mat was comforting beneath my feet and I climbed the stairs to the very top floor.
I walked onto the balcony and peered down the railing. There was a perfect view of the gardens below, and I could see people milling about, praying, hanging messages or admiring nature. The soft melody of birds chirping and trinkling fountain water complimented the peaceful atmosphere.
I closed my eyes for a moment of prayer for Tsutako's wellbeing in heaven, but a loud sound made me open my eyes again in suprise.
I turned around to see two men shove the sliding door open roughly while arguing intensely with each other. The word 'money' kept being shoved about and it seemed to be a financial issue between the two. The argument started becoming physical, and they began shoving and pinching each other.
I pressed myself into a corner of the railing, trying not to get in the way. I felt uncomfortable in the situation and wished I could get off the balcony, but the two men were blocking the sliding door.
Suddenly, one of the men gave the other an especially rough shove, and the other man jerked back, knocking into me.
The low railing gave way, and the man knocked me off-balance.
Before I could realise anything, I was falling back, down, down, down.
It happened so slowly. It was as if god had slowed my last few moments.
The items in my tote bag spilled out and the two men kept arguing, not even realising what had happened.
The heavy book divider collided with my head as it fell down and my head was knocked back, my eyes rolling to the blue, blue sky.
And then I hit the ground.
Author POV:
The mug splintered to ceramic pieces on the concrete, splashes of blood on it's handle.
The tote bag fell slowly, like a feather, to the floor and landed beside him. Immediantly, blood started soaking into the fabric.
His eyes were pitch-dark, deep, like an endless portal into the next world. The better one.
A/N: Hands up if you were expecting that.
Okay, if your hand is up, are you physic or something? This was the most unexpected ending I could think of. Did it suprise you? (⚆ ̫ ⚆)
