"I want to stay with Mister Captain."

"Where's this coming from all of a sudden?"

Oleander looked very confused as Kilian clung to his leg with a serious little look while Yuri just looked like he wanted to die from embarrassment.

"Again, I'm really sorry Captain Oleander..." Yuri sighed and the young man shook his head with a small smile.

"Don't worry about it, it's perfectly fine." Oleander chuckled before patting Kilian on the head, "Why don't you go on and change into your uniform? I'll go ahead and take Kilian on up to my office, we'll both wait for you there!"

"Really?" Yuri's eyes lit up at the thought of being free from the brat before he caught the sour look Kilian was giving him, "Of course! Thank you, Captain!"

The duo watched with weary and irritated gazes as Yuri took off, speeding away like a mad man.

"I hate that man..." Kilian seethed before looking up at Oleander, "Uncle Oleander? You know Auntie's husband?"

He deadpanned at the haggard young man who looked about ready to collapse, "Ohhh... this is very bad..."

Kilian sighed, 'Ah, yes, very bad indeed.'

Y/n was never meant to take on the family business, as everyone expected Achille to live a long time. Unfortunately, after disaster struck, the siblings' father wasn't in the right mindset to step back into the role. On top of that, he was terribly sick and couldn't handle the stress.

Y/n decided to step up, but only until she punished everyone involved in her brother's death. As far as the Secret Police and rival gangs were concerned, Laurence was momentarily the big boss until y/n's father was well enough to take over again and y/n was living a separate life with a couple of safety precautions.

Nobody knew y/n was in charge, for the safety of both her and her husband. But since Yuri was a member of the Secret Police, things could get real complicated real quick.

"Ughh... should I tell her or not...?"

"I don't recommend it."

Kilian sat on the couch in Oleander's nice office, sipping on the hot cocoa the young man had made for him.

Oleander was devoted to the Leone Family, especially after Kilian's grandfather took him under his wing and raised him alongside Achille and Y/n.

After he began to work for the SSS, he'd report back to the family to keep them and their business under the radar and out of trouble. Oleander was good at what he did, but him and Kilian's father were both very nervous men.

While Oleander had learned how to hide it and put on a confident facade, it was in private that he would finally collapse under all the pressure. Kilian had witnessed it once or twice when he was very small.

The boy regarded the young man who sat at his desk with his head down and chuckled a little bit. This looked familiar, the picture was only missing Kilian's father!

At that, Kilian looked down with a small frown.

Huh, it still didn't feel real.

"Uncle Oleander, listen" Kilian murmured, "We don't have to tell Auntie, I think it's better if we don't."

The young man at the desk looked surprised, "Huh?"

"As much as I dislike the guy, that Yuri guy seems to make Auntie happy." Kilian murmured, "So I think we should keep quiet about it."

"But if she finds out..."

"She won't find out."

"...?"

Kilian was confident in his abilities to hide one little secret. After all, he'd managed to outsmart a bunch of highly intelligent adults with PhDs and whatnot. Even with a loudmouth gremlin tagging along. Who's to say he can't keep a secret locked up?

"I'll make it work." Kilian continued, "Besides!"

Oleander gave Kilian a wary stare as the young boy's expression got all intense, "When those two break up, I'll make sure y/n is happy when it happens!"

Oleander was puzzled by this.

He knew Kilian really loved his Auntie, but-

"She's your Aunt, Kil."

"It's not like that! I just think her husband is a dirt bag!" Kilian snapped, "I don't trust him one bit, and neither should Auntie! I'll make her realize that!"

"Hah... what an odd kid..." Oleander sighed before tilting his head, "Also... what happened to your hair?"

Kilian flinched, self consciously covering his snowy white hair, "Errr... stress."

After Yuri returned in uniform, Kilian bid the Captain farewell before sticking with Yuri for the rest of the day. It really sucked though, all the walking the guy made him do.

Eventually, Kilian got bored, and decided to stoop down to typical 6 year old behavior.

"Hey, old man, I'm hungry."

"I'm bored, when can we leave?"

"Hey, hey, can you hear me?"

As the day dragged by and Kilian's complaining persisted, Yuri's patience began to drain rapidly.

'Even if y/n wants us to get along, there's no way I could stand to live in the same house as this brat.' Yuri thought irritably as Kilian kept on nagging him.

Eventually, the little boy ran in front of him and rested his hands on his hips with a, "Okay, listen up, you Aunt stealer!"

"Aunt stealer?!" Yuri demanded, "She's my wife!"

"And she's the only person I've got left!" Kilian retorted, 'Not true, but he doesn't need to know that.' "I'm not gonna let you take her away from me that easily! I'm gonna find incriminating evidence, show it to her, then your sorry 🍑 will be alone!"

"First of all, what do you mean incriminating evidence?! Second, who the hell taught you that language?!" Yuri snapped.

"You're one shady guy, the shadiest of the shadiest, and I know you're hiding something from my Aunt!" Kilian exclaimed, "I'll find out, and I'll make sure my Aunt and I will never have to see you again!"

"Ha! As if you'd find anything!"

"Wanna bet?" Kilian challenged, "Prove it to me!"

You'd expect someone from a counterintelligence agency to be highly intelligent, mature, and level headed.

Yuri was, and could be, all of those things.

But even the most stoic human being on the planet couldn't keep their calm in the face of Kilian Leone.

"Huh? You want to spend the day with your nephew?" Yuri's boss inquired when the duo arrived at his office.

"Yes sir! My wife wanted me to spend time with him today." Yuri replied with a smile, voice upbeat and filled with energy.

Kilian was glaring daggers at Yuri while the young man stood at attention, 'What a stuck up dude. Definitely cheating.'

"As for work, I'll-!"

"Ah, don't mention it!" the boss exclaimed with a smile as he waved his hand, "You've been working real hard! Go spend time with your nephew, alright?"

"Yes sir! Thank you very much!"

Kilian scowled, 'Maybe he's hooking up with his boss.'

The boy put on his best I'm-a-perfectly-normal-6-year-old look and snuck a peek at Yuri's locker after he'd changed back into his civilian clothing.

There, plastered all over the inside of locker door, were pictures of a very beautiful woman. Some were normal photos, others looked like they'd been taken without her realizing.

A look of disgust and disbelief settled on Kilian's face as he glanced back at Yuri who was humming happily to himself while looking at the pictures.

'Definitely cheating.' Kilian concluded before covering his mouth with a little gag.

Yuri glanced back over his shoulder at the boy with a, "What are you laughing about?"

"I'm not laughing." Kilian replied curtly, "I just find your shamelessness and lack of basic human decency incredibly nauseating."

Yuri couldn't help but feel a twinge of annoyance as Kilian turned his back on him, 'Cheeky brat.'

Kilian did resemble his Aunt a little. Not a lot, but enough that you could tell that they were related.

Even so, Yuri was at a loss.

'How in the world is my angelic wife related to a little hellspawn like this one?' Yuri wondered.

"I'm hungry." Kilian suddenly declared before pointing down the street, "I smell food over there, so let's go check it out."

He started walking off without another word and Yuri bristled before storming after him, "Hey! Don't wander too far off!"

"Then keep up! You have at least another 10 years before your risk of developing arthritis increases!"

Kilian seemed way too grown for his age. What if he really was some kind of spy from Westalis? What if he wasn't a kid at all?

He'd be a good spy, really, if it weren't for his borderline crippling fear of large groups of people.

Yuri didn't miss the way the boy's eyes widened slightly and he began to tremble when they entered one restaurant which the young boy had spotted.

It was super fancy looking, and rather crowded. It wasn't even a minute after they'd entered before the little boy began trembling like a car in need of maintenance.

"You sure you want to eat here? It looks a little expensive..." Yuri pointed out, "Besides, you look about ready to pee your pants."

"N-No I don't!" Kilian snapped, "And this spot is perfect! What, you're too broke to eat here?"

"Nah, fancy food makes me nauseous." Yuri replied with a shrug, "Can't we just go get something simple instead?"

Kilian paused, glancing at Yuri with curious gray eyes, "Something simple, huh? What do you suggest?"

Five minutes later, the two idiots were sitting outside a nice little bakery that was doing an afternoon special of some kind.

Kilian was silently nibbling on his grilled cheese sandwich, pausing every now and then to carefully dip it in his tomato soup before continuing to eat.

"You're disgusting." Yuri stated with a scowl.

"Okay, but when did I ask?" Kilian replied curtly with a scowl, picking up the second slice of his grilled cheese sandwich and dunking it in the tomato soup while staring at him dead in the eye.

Yuri tried not to cringe as he took a deep breath, recalling his wife's words from the evening before.

"Please try to get along with Kil, okay? He reminds me a lot of you, you know? I'm sure the two of you could be close, it'll just take some time and patience."

'Y/n, I love you, but you might be wrong on this own.' Yuri thought with an exasperated sigh, "Alright, disgusting eating habits aside, how's the food?"

Kilian raised a brow, glancing down at his tomato soup covered grilled cheese sandwich, before shrugging.

"I've had worse." he said dismissively.

Despite his uninterested and cold tone, Kilian continued to eat his food. In fact, he looked rather happy as he nibbled on the rest of his grilled cheese sandwich and nodded eagerly with a shy look when a waitress asked if he wanted another glass of lemonade.

He was enjoying himself, and Yuri didn't fail to notice. He'd successfully picked something that the little boy would enjoy eating, and that was a win.

'Maybe there is some hope with this kid.' Yuri thought to himself as the two of them bounced from store to store with one another.

With new energy, he took the little kid to different stores to get a feel for what he was interested in.

Kilian didn't seem interested when they stopped by a toy store, not at all paying the toy boats and action figurines on display any mind. He actually stopped and glared at Yuri when he asked if he wanted to go into the store.

Okay, so that didn't go well.

He took him to a pastry shop as well where the young boy ordered a strawberry tart and nibbled on it before politely asking to buy three more.

"For Auntie and I. Not for you."

Yuri tried various other stores, but Kilian only showed interest in the book store which they came across.

"Hey, look, it's a book on chess!" Kilian exclaimed, pointing up at a book on a higher shelf after a couple of minutes of browsing.

"Do you like chess?" the young man inquired with raised brows and Kilian nodded twice, "Do you know how to play?"

"No, I never had the opportunity— ahem, chance, to learn." Kilian replied, "I really want to learn though, it seems really fun!"

Yuri was silent for a long moment before crossing his arms with a, "Well, I know the basics. I'm a little rusty, so the book may come in handy, but I can teach you. There's a few chess tables at a nearby park, if you want to give it a try."

"Give it a try..?" Kilian mumbled before his eyes lit up, "Wait! Stay right here! I've gotta go get something!"

He turned and sped off, hurrying past other people shopping in the store as he went. The boy came back a few minutes later with three large books in his arms, his eyes bright.

"I'd like these as well!"

A textbook on Algebra and Geometry.
Another textbook on Earth Science and basic Biology.
And yet another textbook, this time on World History.

"What's all this for?" Yuri questioned with a small frown and little Kilian's lips quirked up ever so slightly.

"Don't worry about it." he hummed, "Let's go play chess at the park first! Later, we can read through these together!"

After the books were purchased, the duo headed for the nearest park and plopped down at a little table with a chess board engraved in it. The pieces were all out of place, left scattered from the previous game played upon the board.

Kilian flipped open the book on Chess titled "A Detailed Guide on Chess for 🚚ing Idiots", diligently reading aloud and listening to Yuri's instructions as the two of them reorganized the board.

hey made some progress. Kilian quickly learned that chess was far more complicated than he'd expected. There were tons and tons of different sequences of moves, and Kilian wanted to learn them all!

Of course, he was still just a six year old.

A six year old who needed his rest.

"I think it's about time we went home." Yuri hummed quietly before breaking off with a quiet yawn, "Don't you think it's getting a little late? Y/n is probably home with that cake you wanted by now."

"No. I wanna stay here."

"Come on, kid, we can come back here tomorrow." Yuri began and stopped when he looked at the little boy sitting across from him, "Yep, you definitely need to go home."

Kilian was clearly struggling to keep his eyes opened,
squinting at the chess board with sleepy grey eyes and occasionally pausing to rub at them furiously.

"Just... five more minutes..." he mumbled before tipping forwards, exhaustion finally getting to him.

The ebony haired young man cursed under his breath, the damned table jabbing him in the rib cage as he lunged forward to catch Kilian before the boy could slam his face against the table.

"Hey, watch it! You almost gave yourself a concussion, you little turd!" he snapped.

He got a quiet snore as a reply, proof that Kilian really had fallen asleep then and there. Yuri sighed heavily, "This brat..."

He ended up carrying Kilian back home and y/n returned home to find her husband and nephew sprawled out on the couch, sleeping deeply.

She could only smile to herself, and carefully walked over to give them each a kiss on the forehead before quietly moving away to avoid disturbing them.

They could all eat the cake she bought the following afternoon, it'd be better to let the two of them rest peacefully.
