Kilian awoke with a start, the lack of warmth beside him instantly dragging him from the comforting depths of his rest.

He'd fallen asleep after his Aunt brought him home, curling up with him in his new room when he asked.

Kilian had nibbled on some apple slices before then since y/n seemed really worried about him eating, but couldn't manage to stomach much else.

He'd drifted off to sleep in his Aunt arms after that, comfortable and happy as she hummed quietly to him.

'When I was really small, that woman never held me.' Kilian thought as he slid off the bed and silently made his way to the door where light was filtering through from the living room, 'It was always Auntie.'

The young boy smiled to himself, 'I'm going to do my best to help Auntie! And I'll live a good life with her until I'm old enough to get a job and take care of her! It's perfect!'

Kilian grasped the door handle and opened it up, ready to go greet his Aunt, 'Should I act a little more my age? Auntie seems to worry about that... I'll be sure to ask. Papa said communication that is of very high importance.'

Little Kilian peeked out of his room, ready to relax and just be a kid. He didn't have to be scared anymore, nor did he have to be worried. He could live the life he wanted to live!

Of course, all of Kilian's plans to chill out and be a normal kid shattered the moment he saw his beloved Aunt sitting on the couch with her husband. He wouldn't have been bothered had this GROWN MAN JUST SAT NORMALLY RATHER THAN USED Y/N'S LEGS AS HIS PERSONAL PILLOWS!!!

'Bah, I'll have to wait till later.' Kilian thought with narrowed eyes, 'I already greatly dislike this clown.'

"Auntie...?" y/n blinked in surprise upon hearing Kilian's voice and glanced over at Kilian who was sleepily rubbing his eyes from where he stood by the door to his room.

"Kilian, what are you doing up?" y/n questioned, standing up abruptly and causing Yuri to tumble off the couch in her haste to go to Kilian's aid.

"What the-?" Yuri caught himself, careful not to say anything that'd get him in trouble, as y/n lifted up the sleepy Kilian and carried him back over to the couch.

"What's wrong, Kil?" the woman questioned as her young nephew rubbed his eyes from where he sat in her lap, "Couldn't sleep?"

Kilian shook his head, "I woke up, but I couldn't fall back asleep since you were gone by then..."

"Oh, my bad, Kil..." y/n sighed, hugging the young boy as Yuri dragged himself back up onto the couch, "Before I forget, Yuri! This is my nephew, Kilian. Kilian, this is my husband, Yuri."

The two of them stared at each other for a long moment before Kilian's frown deepened. He turned his head and rested it against y/n's chest instead with a huff., 'As if I'd greet someone like him!'

'Hey!that's my spot!' Yuri glared at the little boy before scoffing, 'The brat knows what he's doing! This is exactly why I didn't want kids!'

Y/n laughed nervously, "Haha... I hope you two can get along. For now I'll, uh, get Kilian to bed."

She got up, still holding Kilian as she gave Yuri a quick kiss and a soft, "I'll be back soon." before returning to the young boy's room.

As she opened the door and began heading inside, Kilian gave Yuri a smirk and a thumbs down over his Aunt's shoulder, earning a look of fury from the young man.

'I- that little 💩!'

It didn't take much time or patience before Kilian fell right back asleep, his exhaustion getting the better of him once again. Y/n lingered a little longer, just to make sure his sleep wouldn't be disturbed again, before returning to the living room and flopping on the couch again.

"So that's your nephew? He doesn't seem very pleasant." Yuri commented as he tipped right back over and rested his head on his wife's thighs again.

"He's just a little cranky..." y/n said simply as she rubbed his head, "Plus, he lost his father and had to bear that grief for three years without anyone there to help him through it. I understand Kilian may seem a little hostile at first, but he's just a little kid who's been hurt one too many times. Time, patience, and kindness is what he needs right about now, so I want you two to get along."

Yuri puffed out a sigh, not saying a word.

"Yuri?"

No reply, only a quiet grumble.

Y/n shook her head, 'Last time I checked, there was only one kid in this house, not two... okay then!'

She gently rolled her husband over so he was looking up at her and the two of them could make eye contact.

"Please, Yuri?" she questioned, holding his face in her hands as he gave her a reluctant little look, "I want the two of you to get along. I understand that it'll take time, but you need to make an effort if it's ever going to happen. Once Kil sees you trying to get along, he'll put in effort as well."

'She looks worried.' Yuri noted as he observed his wife's face, lifting a hand and resting it in on her cheek, 'Tired, even. As much of a jerk that kid is, he's still y/n's nephew. She genuinely cares about him, and really seems to to want us to get along, so... as much as I hate it, '

"Fine."

"Really?"

Yuri's cheeks went pink as he rubbed the back of his head with a little sigh, "Yeah, I'll try my best..."

"Thank you, Yuri, thank you!" y/n exclaimed, leaning over and peppering her husband's face with kisses, "You! Won't! Regret! This!"

"I highly doubt that, the kid hates me!"

"Shush, he's sleepy, I'm sure it'll get better tomorrow. How about the two of you go outside to hang out? I'll handle everything else here, you two just go and have fun!"

"I still have to go to work tomorrow, though."

"Maybe Kil can help you! With small stuff, I mean. He's a quick learner, and he's always very eager to help out with simple tasks, so I think he'd enjoy going to work with you!"

Before y/n could continue her happy ramble, Yuri hopped up and scooped his wife up with a, "Okay, off to bed with you!"

"What?! Why?" y/n demanded, clinging to Yuri like a frightened cat as he carried her to the bedroom, "I don't need sleep, I slept earlier-!"

"Nope, we're both going to sleep. And if you're not sleepy, I'll fix that right up for you, no problem!"

"Y-Yuri, remember, Kilian's in the other room-!"

Kilian was nodding off a little as he sat at breakfast with y/n and Yuri, struggling to keep his eyes open.

He'd been awake all evening tossing and turning as he tried to formulate a plan on what he needed to do first.  The loud 🍑 noises in the other room didn't help.

He eventually came to the conclusion that he should understand his enemy first, and would therefore have to spend a day with him. Thankfully, he didn't have to out in any effort to get things working in his favor.

"I have to go to work, so you'll be with Uncle Yuri for the day." y/n explained as Kilian was drinking some apple juice with a sleepy little look on his face.

He paused, looked Yuri dead in the eye, and stated, "This guy isn't my Uncle."

Silence followed as Yuri and Kilian glared daggers at one another while y/n sat there looking really concerned.

"Well, uh, Auntie will treat you both to something nice so long as you try to get along today." y/n offered with a weary little smile, "Since Yuri has to work today, you'll get to meet some of his co-workers as well! I know you don't like large groups of other people, but you can always tell Yuri if you're feeling overwhelmed."

Kilian nodded. He didn't have much of a choice. If he wanted to know his enemy, he'd have to observe his enemy in his workplace. It was... a necessary sacrifice.

"Okay, but only if you'll bring me back some cake!" Kilian said firmly and y/n grinned with delight.

"You've got yourself a deal! I'll grab some on the way home!" y/n agreed before getting up in a hurry, "Work is going to start soon, so I'll go get dressed!"

With that, she hurried off and left Yuri and Kilian on the kitchen by themselves. Yuri paid the little boy absolutely no mind, while Kilian scrutinized him with narrowed grey eyes.

'I don't trust this man, I'm gonna find some dirt on him today and make sure he disappears forever!' Kilian decided, 'Then I can live peacefully with Auntie, without worrying about some fool getting in the way! Maybe I can convince Miss Elena to make him disappear... I haven't seen Auntie Corinne in a while, but she's good at making people disappear!'

After finishing breakfast and getting dressed, Yuri and Kilian waved to y/n as she high tailed it around the corner where Zain and Serafina would be waiting in a car to take her to the Twin Lion Casino to handle some important business.

Yuri and Kilian were then left alone, the two of them casting one another cold stares as soon as y/n was out of sight.

"Let's go." Kilian grumbled, voice gruff as he turned and slowly made his way towards the train station.

"Don't order me around, brat." Yuri retorted sharply.

The two of them wore similar stoic expressions as they sat in the train, sporting the same crossed armed pose as they sat with a Yuri's briefcase set between them as a barrier.

Kilian glared at Yuri, 'What an annoying man.'

Yuri glared back at Kilian, 'What a petty brat.'

A couple of people on the train chuckled as the duo glared at one another, 'What an adorable father and son!'

After exiting the train, the two of them walked in dead silence towards their destination. Kilian was silently critiquing everything Yuri did while the young man was thinking carefully about what he'd have to do next.

'I can't have the kid blabbing about my real job to y/n when we return home... so I'll have to find a way to hide the truth from him.' Yuri was pondering before he looked down at Kilian, 'But he's just a six year old kid, and he's been bouncing around for the past three years, he couldn't know about the SSS...'

Kilian was staring right back at him in silence.

...

'I'm not taking any chances with this kid.' Yuri decided, 'Those aren't the eyes of a six year old.'

"What's your job like?" Kilian suddenly inquired,  breaking the silence as the two of them continued walking together, "Do you have friends at work?"

Two fairly innocent question to any normal person, but Yuri was experienced enough to catch that certain tone in the child's voice.

For a six year old, this kid seemed very intent on knowing about Yuri's occupation. Maybe the kid was a spy from Westalis...

'No, no, no. He's six, it's natural for kids his age to be inquisitive.' Yuri thought, unconsciously waving the thought away, 'He doesn't seem to like me being around y/n, so he may just be trying to find something to use against me so he can chase me away from her! Haha, not gonna happen, brat!'

'I bet he's cheating.' Kilian concluded with a scowl.

The building Yuri seemed to work in was pretty inconspicuous at first. It looked like your average office building on the outside, some people heading out or in and some just chilling outside to have conversations, but Kilian's "people-are-looking-at-me" radar was freaking tf out.

He could feel gazes burning into him, but where from? He didn't think he'd be able to find out, it wasn't within his area of expertise, but he guessed that he was deemed nonthreatening as his radar chilled tf out just before they entered the building.

The young boy felt a little dizzy around all the people in the lobby, blindly reaching out to where y/n would usually stand in search of her comforting hand.

His stomach ached when he realized that his Aunt wasn't there at the moment, and he held his hands in front of him instead and kept his gaze downcast.

"Good morning, Mr. Briar!" the lady at the front desk greeted cheerfully as the young man and Kilian were passing by, "Oh, you have company today!"

"Good morning, and yes, this is my wife's nephew." Yuri explained with a little smile of his own.

The lady glanced at Kilian who immediately averted his gaze, gripping his hands a little tighter, "Hello there, little man! What's your name?"

"K..." Kilian paused before falling silent.

"Haha, a little shy, aren't you?" the woman laughed before offering the young boy some candy, "That's alright, here, have some candy for effort."

Kilian glanced back at the woman, 'Huh? Candy?'

There, in her hand, were individually wrapped brightly colored candies. They looked delicious, but Kilian's stomach did that twisty thing again and he looked away without a word.

"Must be really shy, huh?" the woman murmured before smiling at Yuri, "Is he going to be staying with you while you work?"

"Yeah— hey, Kilian!"

Yuri damn near tripped over himself as Kilian suddenly bolted for the door, seemingly in an attempt to escape the building.

Before he could even think to do so, the door opened up and he ran right into someone else. Since he was a little kid, and the object he ran into was very sturdy, he fell backwards but was caught by his shoulder before he could hit the floor.

"Woah there, kid, be careful!"

Kilian's brows raised, 'Wait a second, I know that voice!'

He looked up with a look of disbelief and found a young man standing there with a little puzzled. He had brown eyes, and brown hair, Kilian always remembered him having a forgettable face.

It was a brief moment before the young man paled, "What in the...? Kilian?!"

"Uncle Oleander?" Kilian blurted.

"Captain Oleander!" Yuri called, hurrying over, "Sorry about him, he got a little spooked by all the people around and wasn't watching where he was going."

"Oh, it's quite alright, Second Lieutenant." Oleander assured him with a little warm smile, the shock on his face disappearing in an instant, "An old friend of mine used to react the same way, until circumstances and sudden change forced him to adapt."

Wait...

'Uncle Oleander served as Papa's eyes and ears at SSS before he died, and I'm sure he still works for Auntie.' Kilian thought as he slowly turned to look at Yuri, 'So if this guy is referring to him as Captain, and he acknowledged him as Second Lieutenant...'

...

Oh dear.

'My Aunt is a Mob Boss, and my Uncle works for the Secret Police...' Kilian suddenly felt very tired, 'Lovely.'
