"Is she gonna be okay!?"

"She should be, it was just a cut-"

Y/n was drifting in and out of consciousness, feeling very unwell.

Blood on its own bothered y/n. A lot.

She could see enough to fight demons, yeah, but it was different when it was her own blood.

Her reactions to the sight of her own blood were never good. She'd pass out for hours and if she didn't, her reaction was so violent and erratic that Sanemi once had to wrap her up and toss her into a closet until she chilled out.

On missions, y/n could handle it just enough to do what she had to do if she did happen to bleed.

So this was definitely a sign something was wrong.

Y/n had recovered from the shock of seeing her injury a long while ago. Yet her face felt extremely warm and her body felt heavy. Moving was a challenge.

It was a while of y/n being in this feverish state but she eventually concluded that something was on those thorns.

She was conscious at the moment, listening to everyone around her.

"She's deadweight at this point, let's just leave her here!" The Pest snapped.

"No, we can't leave her!" Chisuke protested, "She'll get better soon, won't she?"

"I don't know, Chisuke-kun..." Death Fodder murmured, "She's been like this for a day."

Like this being incapable of moving.

"We should leave her behind!" Azami said, panic lacing her voice, "That or just putting her out of her misery!"

"The hell!?" Death Fodder demanded.

"What? Why!?" Chisuke cried.

"Last time someone got scratched by one of the plants here, they went 🚚ing insane!" Azami snapped, "If she doesn't die, she'll surely get right back up and kill us!"

"Wait, don't kill y/n-chan!" Chisuke interjected, "She'll get better! I mean, she's a Tsuguko after all...!"

There was arguing amongst the others as y/n felt someone place a wet cloth on her forehead.

"Lay a hand on y/n and I'll claw your eyes out!" Shiori snapped from where she'd was sitting on y/n's stomach.

"Shut up, you damn cat, you don't get a say in this!" The Pest shouted at Shiori.

"YES TF I DO!!!" Shiori snapped.

"Let's do a majority vote." Death Fodder suggested, "Iori, Kurosawa and I are for leaving y/n behind or killing her. I... I'd rather not let her suffer for long. Chisuke-kun and Shiori are for bringing her along and taking care of her."

"I get two votes!" Shiori snapped.

There was a pause.

"Kaigaku-san, it's up to you." Azami said.

There was silence and y/n felt someone remove the cloth from her forehead.

There was the sound of water before the cloth was placed right back on her forehead.

"We're not killing her." Kaigaku said flatly, "Give her another day. If she isn't awake by then, we can just leave her here."

"Oh come on!" The Pest snapped.

"Alright..." Death Fodder agreed.

Relieved, y/n allowed herself to drift off back into unconsciousness, 'I just need to rest a little longer... I'll be aright.'

Y/n heaved a sigh as she stared up at the ceiling of the run down old house.

She sat up in her futon, observing the bandages which covered the many scars across her arms.

"..." y/n frowned, "...I wonder if my little brother is okay. Has he recovered yet?"

The girl closed her eyes and she immediately opened them back up when she recalled the state of her brother the last time she'd seen him.

The h/c haired girl sighed, "Hmm..."

She perked up a little when the smell of food met her nose and her mentor entered the room.

"Soba...!" she exclaimed, e/c eyes sparkling when she spotted the bowl the man held, "Ko-san, you brought me soba?"

"No, it's for me." he replied flatly as he took a seat next to her.

Y/n looked disheartened, "Oh..."

"..."

"..."

"I was joking."

"Ah, I couldn't tell-"

As y/n happily ate, feeljng much better than before, she couldn't help but notice how her mentor stared at the bandages that covered her arms.

Though the h/c haired girl found the man difficult to read, she caught a hint of guilt in his gaze.

"One day, I'll get stronger." y/n hummed, catching his attention, "I'll get stronger. Faster too."

She smiled at the man, "When I do, you'll be the one with scars on your arms!"

"..."

"..."

"You know that's not possible, y/n."

"HEY!" y/n whined and pouted when the man pat her head gently, ruffling her hair.

"Get some rest. I know you've been staying up all night." he told her sternly.

"I have not!"

"You're an awful liar. Stay that way."

Consciousness returned to y/n when she sensed someone else near her.

Y/n didn't know who it was.

But they didn't have good intentions.

They plopped down next to her with a small huff, the voice letting y/n know that this was Azami beside her.

"You're a troublesome little Slayer, aren't you?" the girl murmured, "The other Slayers died less than an hour after they got my poison in their bloodstream."

Ah...

There was a soft chuckle.

"As expected of a Tsuguko but I guess even someone as strong as you can't fully evade the effects of my poison." Azami sneered.

Y/n knew it.

She 🚚ing knew it.

From the moment Azami showed up.

This ♀️🐶 wasn't a survivor, she was the damn demon. Y/n had figured it out a while before and now she was 100% sure.

'A little late on the reaction, though...' she thought meekly, feeling rather disappointed in herself.

"Ah, you're awake, aren't you?" Azami murmured, "Right on time."

From the sound of it, this woman had a damn sword. She was going to kill her right there and then.

"Any last words?" Azami questioned, "Oh, what am I saying. You're still paralyzed! You can't talk~!"

"Not... so..."

Y/n's eyes fluttered open, e/c eyes filled with a very rare light as she glared at Azami.

Hm... y/n had always thought her skin was a little paler than normal. Her gray eyes were no longer gray, a crimson color instead.

The demon looked shocked, "How-"

Before she could finish, y/n grabbed her by the face and forced her to the ground, pinning the demon to the earth.

"I'm just built different." y/n replied, taking one out of Shiori's book as she snatched the nichirin from the demon.

She raised it, preparing to behead her but was interrupted by a, "Y/n-chan!?"

She blinked and looked at Chisuke with round eyes who stared back in horror.

Oh.

💩.

"Chisuke-kun, run!" Azami shouted, "She's gone crazy, go warn the others!"

"Shut up!" y/n snapped, grabbing Azami's throat instead with the intention to strangle her 🍑 to death.

Usually y/n was a very patient person capable of maintaining her cool but today was just one of those days where she wasn't.

If she hadn't woken up, this piece of 💩 probably would've killed her and then murked the others.

And Shiori... what would she have done to her cat?!
Y/n didn't want Shiori to die!

The auburn haired boy trembled as he stared at y/n with round maroon eyes.

"It can't be... she's not..." Chisuke was trembling, "Y/n... y/n isn't...!"

The Pest, and Death Fodder had heard the commotion and come to check it out.

"Y/n-chan!" Death Fodder gasped.

"I knew it!" The Pest exclaimed, "I was right, wasn't I?"

"I'm me, idiots." Y/n scowled, "Look."

She brought down her sword, attempting to chop off Azami's arms only for vines to surge from the woods.

Y/n hopped out of the way to avoid being snatched, joining the group of Slayers.

"See?" she demanded, "Azami is the demon here. She has full control over the forest since she merged with it."

"Ohh! You're right!" Chisuke breathed, "See, Aoki-san? Y/n is perfectly fine."

"Tch, looks like you aren't all as stupid as you look." Azami grumbled as the forest behind her rustled, "Hm, no worries. You all have no way of escaping. I'll just kill you here-"

Thunder Breathing, Third Form

There was a sound of thunder as a blur which looked like electricity darted around Azami's form before her head was sliced off in one slash.

Thunder Swarm

As the demon's head flew, a confused smile was plastered on her face, "...eh?"

Kaigaku caught the head with a scowl, "What was that you were just saying?"

...

"Kaigaku-sannn!!!" Death Fodder and Chisuke exclaimed, eyes practically filled with stars.

The ebony haired young man bristled when Death Fodder and Chisuke ran at him with bright smiles, tackling him.

"HEY! GET OFF OF ME!!"

Y/n watched Azami's head fall to the ground as Kaigaku was swarmed by The Pest, Death Fodder and Chisuke.

The demon seemed to be glaring at y/n as she retrieved her mask.

The young woman returned her mask to her face with a quiet sigh of relief before glancing at the demon's head.

She was silent for a moment before flipping off the demon, mimicking the action Uzui often made to Sanemi.

"YOU ♀️🐶!!! I'LL MURDER YOU, JUST YOU WAIT!!!" Azami shrieked as she turned to ash, "I REFUSE TO LOSE LIKE THIS-ACK!"

Shiori had stamped on the Demon's face, causing her to turn to ash.

"SHUT THE FUCKETH UP YOU DUMB ♀️🐶, YOUR ASS IS DEAD. STAY DEAD!!!"

Y/n sighed wearily, "Shiori..."

She yelped when the cat leapt into her arms, "Thank you for not dying! Chisuke-kun would've been super sad! Death Fodder and I too! And Tempura Top and Chinchilla and Butterfly Girl and Kaigaku over there and-"

Y/n deadpanned, "What."

"Hm?"

"You said Kaigaku."

"Oh yeah, while you were sick he took care of you and whenever you regained consciousness the two of you would talk and it seems like you guys had a lot in comm-" Shiori began to ramble only for Kaigaku to cut in.

"SHUT THE HELL UP, DAMN CAT!"

Y/n tilted her head, "?"

Death Fodder wandered over to y/n and whispered, "Kaigaku-san took care of you. A couple of times it seemed like the two of you were talking. But you might've been half asleep which explains why you don't remember."

"Oh, I see..." y/n murmured.

"Hey! Look! The fog is clearing up, there's the sun!" Chisuke shouted, pointing upwards where sunlight was filtering through the trees.

Y/n inhaled deeply then exhaled.

'I need to train some more.'

~~~ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ•°*
Upon returning from her mission she did exactly that! She totally wasn't in pain the entire time from the lingering effects of whatever tf that damn demon got into her system but meh, she'd be alright.
Inosuke, Tanjiro, and Zenitsu were still recovering, so y/n spent time with them since Sanemi freaked and banned her from going on missions alone.
...
Again.
It wasn't a problem, though.
Y/n had plenty to keep herself busy with.
Like training with Inosuke! Boy, he was a handful. He constantly insisted on training with y/n, shouting and shouting until she agreed. He'd even smacked her over the head with a brush when he wanted her to brush his hair.
She really didn't appreciate the abuse, but obliged.
Oh yeah, she got some letters.
Kaigaku's raven showed up one day and dropped a letter on her head. That is, after y/n had sent a thank you letter to him for taking care of her while her dumb behind was slumped.
She was surprised to receive a letter back from him, especially since he seemed rather scary, but was delighted nonetheless.
As she eagerly wrote a reply, hoping to get to know this potential new friend, she was unconsciously aware of how Sanemi was staring at her like a cat or somethin from outside her room.
Did she do something wrong?
The next was Chisuke.
The boy was doing well, yes, and his new crow seemed to be fiercely protective of him considering how it interrogated y/n upon delivering the letter.
Ahem, back to the news.
Apparently, Death Fodder had been caught lacking on one of her missions and kicked the bucket-SLAPPED
...
I mean she died.
Y/n was used to death. She'd seen other slayers die right in front of her in some of the most brutal ways.
But that didn't mean this news didn't hurt.
All she could do was take time to silently send a letter back and send it off with Shiori as she sat at Sanemi's dojo. The cat skeddaddled, y/n watching her go only to spot a familiar head of dark red hair when the cat disappeared from sight.
It was Tanjiro! Looking awfully tired— what the hell? He hadn't recovered from his injuries! Why was he out?!
"Y/n!" he called out to her and she immediately hopped up, running to meet him halfway and steady him as he wobbled a little bit.
"Tanjiro, what are you doing away from the Butterfly Estate right now?" y/n demanded, looking him over frantically, "You're still recovering!"
"I know, but I still have to fulfill Rengoku-san's final request!" Tanjiro insisted, "I came here because he wanted you to go as well, remember?"
Y/n tensed a bit, her gaze conflicted before heaving a sigh, "Yes, I remember, but... will you be okay?" she reached out and felt his forehead, missing how his cheeks went red, "You're sweating quite a bit, I don't think it's wise for you to be out and about like this, especially when you haven't healed yet."
"I'm fine, really!"
"Are you really?"
Tanjiro trembled a bit and this really strange, almost scary expression settled on his face as though he were holding in a 💩, "Y-Yes, I'm... f-fine."
"You're lying."
"Yeah..."
"No worries, let's take our time going there." y/n suggested as she returned her mask, fixing her haori and joining the boy once more, "Shall we?"
Tanjiro's expression softened a bit, "Yes, let's go."
The two began making their way to their destination, Tanjiro wanting to pick up the pace but y/n insisting that he take it easy.
After some back and forth, y/n ended up taking Nezuko's box to lighten the load before they hastily made their way to the Rengoku residence.
They had Rengoku's crow there to guide them, though y/n was focusing on the boy as he gasped for air. He was holding his stomach as if it pained him... was he really going to be okay?
'Maybe I should've knocked him out and took him back, like how Shinazugawa-san used to.' y/n thought, recalling her first few weeks amongst Demon Slayers.
She'd made frequent escape attempts from the Butterfiy Mansion, and the few successful ones were short lived as the Wind Hashira would find her and drag her back. Conscious or unconscious.
'No, no, no!' she thought frantically, shaking her head with a flustered look, 'He's still hurt, I can't do that to him!'
All of a sudden, Tanjiro staggered to a halt and keeled over with a pained groaned while the tsuguko accompanying him skidded to a halt and back tracked to check on him.
"Tanjiro? Are you okay?" she demanded, "Ah... I knew we shouldn't have made this trip! Let's go back! Now! This instant, we've gotta take you to Shino— K-Kocho-san!"
"Honestly, y/n, I'm fine..."
"Y/n-san?"
Both demon slayers halted before looking up and ahead, spotting a young boy who looked like a carbon copy of the late Flame Hashira.
"Is that..?" Tanjiro began.
"Senjuro-kun." y/n greeted with a bow before glancing back at Tanjiro, "Erm, Tanjiro. This is Senjuro-kun. Rengoku... erm, Kyojuro-san's brother."
The two approached Senjuro who looked back and forth between the two of them with a little frown.
"I have messages from Kyojuro-san for both you and your father." Tanjiro explained, trying his best to ignore how y/n's gaze practically burned into him from beneath her mask, 'She's really worried, huh? I didn't mean to stress her out like this.'
"From my brother?" Senjuro echoed, "I already know what happened to him, but... wait, are you okay? Your face is really pale!"
"It is, isn't it?" y/n finally blurted, her trembling reaching an entirely new level of speed. She was practically vibrating at this point, "He kept insisting he was okay!"
"That's definitely not okay."
"That's what I told him!"
"Hey, knock it off! You two may as well leave!" a voice shouted, causing y/n to jolt and her vibrating to come to a sudden halt, "Whatever message he left, it's worthless."
The trio turned to look and found another Rengoku copy. Just... bigger. And angrier. ...and an alcoholic.
Rengoku Shinjuro, oh boy...
Y/n let out a small squeak as the words died in her throat, 'It's Kyo-san's father! He's just as scary as I remember-!'
"Look what became of him, trying to be a swordsman with no talent! It's no wonder he died! Worthless! Kyojuro was worthless fool of a son!"
(Bro the typos are crazy 💀)
Y/n's mind went blank for a second.
Well. She knew the man had issues.
But she didn't realize it was this bad.
Tanjiro looked appalled by what he was hearing, and there was rage simmering behind his dark red eyes.
"The amount of talent a person has is determined the day they're born," Shinjuro continued on, "Only a handful have talent, but the rest are just useless trash!" Bro took a big 🍑 swig of alcohol right after.
Damn.
"Kyojuro was amongst those without talent. Of course he ended up dead." the words the geezer was spouting caused Senjuro to shrink into himself a little, eyes down cast as he seemed to be on the verge of crying.
"Senjuro!" Shinjuro snapped, "The funeral is over. It's about time that you quit crying about it!"
Damn!
"Hold on, you're going too far! Please stop talking about him like that!" Tanjiro protested as he blocked Senjuro from Shinjuro's line of sight.
Shinjuro just glared at him, "Who the hell are you? Get out, and don't step foot here ever again!"
"I'm from the Demon Slayer Corps—!"
All of a sudden, the drunk dude started tweaking. Dropped his alcohol and 💩... what's his problem.
"You— you're a wielded of the Sun Breathing technique, aren't you?" he demanded.
"Sun Breathing?" Tanjiro echoed, "What—?"
Boy didn't get to finish, Shinjuro's eyes widening as he zeroed in on Tanjiro's hanafuda earrings. With zero warning, the man RAN at him. Even though y/n wasn't the one with a big 🍑 drunk man with crazy thick calves running at her, she still let out a scream.
Oh 💩, oh 💩, oh 💩-!
