'Zenitsu would've lost his 💩 if he were here.' y/n thought, adorning a simple expression behind her mask as she observed the corpse that was wrapped up in the roots of a tree.

It hadn't been dead for long. The skin had turned a rather pale color and looked as though it were severely bruised.

Y/n frowned, "..."

She walked alongside Kaigaku, the two of them having been discussing their current situation. He was a rather collected guy if y/n was being honest.

He looked calm, he was doing an awfully good job of masking his terror. He knew how to mask his feelings. Good.

Chisuke wasn't bothered at all, eagerly asking a nervous Azami questions who hesitantly answered them while Death Fodder was whisper-shouting something at the Pest.

No issues so far.

"Hey, hey, y/n-chan! I smell lots of Mizunoto up ahead!" Shiori exclaimed.

"You do?" y/n murmured.

"Ah, yes, we're nearing our old camp!" Azami gasped, "You probably caught the scent of the others. They're faint, aren't they?"

Shiori nodded, "Yeah..."

"You set up a camp?" Death Fodder inquired.

"Yes, we weren't sure how long we were going to be stuck here and we needed a place to rest so we set up camp around here." Azami replied.

"That's great! I was hoping we'd have a place to-" the Pest cut off with a shriek when something flew out of the woods and over to Kaigaku.

It landed on Kaigaku's arm and it was only then that y/n realized it was a raven.

It was frantically making raven noises, occasionally speaking actual words but Kaigaku seemed to understand.

"Oh crap, that isn't good!" Shiori exclaimed.

Of course the goddamn cat understood.

"What do you mean?" Chisuke asked.

"Kaigaku's raven said all the other crows were struck down upon entering the forest." Shiori explained, "This is exactly what happened to the crows in the last group!"

"EH!??? OUR CROWS!?" The Pest cried.

"Oh, that isn't good." Y/n murmured.

"NO 💩, WOMAN!" the Pest shrieked, "ARE YOU MISSING YOUR EMOTIONS, HOW ARE YOU SO CALM DEMON LADY!!"

Y/n flinched, "You—"

She crouched and stated at the ground, miserably drawing in the dirt with a stick.

"Hey now, we'll be fine!" Death Fodder exclaimed, "Kaigaku-san's raven is still alive! Same with y/n-chan's cat."

All of a sudden, the trees seemed to shiver and Azami let out a frightened scream.

"Hm? Kurosawa-san?" Chisuke inquired when he saw the terror in the Mizunoto's gray eyes, "What's wrong?"

"Blood... blood... it reacts to blood..." Azami murmured incoherently, "Hey, are any of you bleeding?"

Y/n, the Pest, Chisuke, Death Fodder and Kaigaku all confirmed that they weren't after a few tense moments of shuffling around and checking themselves.

The presence of a demon caught y/n's attention. No, not a demon. It's Blood Demon Art. Yes, it'd been there since they entered the forest but it was stronger now.

"Oh! You have a cut on your hand!" Chisuke pointed out and all eyes went to the little bleeding cut on Azami's palm.

Y/n perked up with a sharp inhale and grabbed Chisuke with a, "Duck!"

She grabbed the boy by the shoulder and forced him closer to the ground just as something flew out from the trees.

There was a loud crack as whatever thing was whipped around, narrowly missing the five other Demon Slayers who were still standing up.

"Woah, that would've hit me!" Chisuke gasped, his eyes round, "Thanks, y/n!"

"Sure."

"What the 🚚 was that!?" The Pest shrieked, scared out of his mind.

"Calm down, will you, I can't 🚚ing think with all your shrieking!" Kaigaku shouted at the Kanoto, "Shut your damn mouth!"

"You shut up, we're going to die here because you and that Kinoe are so incompetent!" The Pest shouted.

Azami blinked, "Y/n-san? You're rank Kinoe?"

"Eh? Kinoe?" Shiori questioned, "No, she's a Tsuguko you morons!"

"Shiori...!" y/n whisper-shouted.

The cat seemed to realize her mistake, "Ah— well, technically she is a Kinoe but she's still a tsuguko and... you know what, I'll just shut up now."

"Really? You're a Tsuguko?" Chisuke questioned, eyes filled with awe, "That's so cool! Super cool!"

"Ah... I, uhm..." y/n murmured.

"So cool...!" Death Fodder breathed, "I never would've expected someone as skittish as you to be a Tsuguko, haha...!"

"..." y/n felt awkward now but shoved aside her embarrassment when the forest shivered again, "Now isn't the time to talk about that."

Death Fodder's eyes lit up at the sight of the trees leaning towards them a little, vines, thorns and roots of all kinds reaching for them.

"Woah, this is gonna be fun!"

"ARE YOU A PSYCHO!??"

"Stay in the middle with Azami, Chisuke."

"Huh? Thats not fair! :("

This wasn't going to be pleasant.

Y/n didn't like this forest.

How long had they been stuck?

Three... four days maybe?

Herself and the others tried to make the most of it, Kaigaku not included.

Y/n had gotten to know most of them.

Chisuke, Kiyama Chisuke was his name, lived with his Aunt and older brother.

He became a Demon Slayer to get together money so he could pay off his Aunt's debts and help out his older brother with his self-owned business.

And the Pest, Aoki Iori.
Y/n didn't bother asking him.

No comment on Death Fodder.

As for Kaigaku...

Y/n didn't know anything about him.

"Hey! Hey! Kaigaku-san! Hey!" Chisuke chimed, shaking the Demon Slayer by the shoulders as they walked together.

They were searching for any clues on where tf the demon was. Chisuke was tired of all the silence and tried to get information out of Kaigaku.

"I have an idea!" the boy chirped, "How about we play a game, huh? To lighten up the mood a bit!"

"Why the hell would we play a game in a situation like this?" Kaigaku demanded.

"So we can get to know each other of course!" Chisuke replied, "But... what game should we play?"

"How about two truths and a lie?" Shiori offered.

"What's that?"

"Exactly what it sounds like, tell two truths and a lie and make everyone guess what the lie is. Simple."

"Okay, I'll go first then!" the auburn haired boy cleared his throat, "Ahem... I'm fourteen years old, I don't like fish and I'm engaged! Which is the lie?"

"You're engaged." Kaigaku and y/n replied in unison without hesitation, earning a gasp from the boy.

"Hey!"

"You're too young." Kaigaku pointed out with a scowl, "You look like you're twelve."

"I agree with the first part." y/n added.

"Hmph, well, you were right. Is this how the game goes, Shiori?" Chisuke inquired, only receiving a little sleepy nod from the cat, "Okay, then!"

"Oh? Okay..." y/n hummed, "I get up early in the morning, I like crowded places and... I find training fun."

Chisuke pondered before declaring in an eager tone, "I think it's the second one! Definitely the second one!"

Y/n and the boy glanced at Kaigaku, awaiting his answer before Chisuke speaking up, "Kaigaku-san. What do you think?"

He blinked at them with turquoise eyes before sighing, "I don't know, the second."

The h/c haired girl nodded, "Correct."

"Now you, Kaigaku-san!" Chisuke declared, pointing at the young man, "It's your turn to play the game!"

"Must I?"

"Y/n-chan and I did it!"

Kaigaku grumbled something under his breath before speaking, "My eyesight is 💩 in one eye, I teach myself how to cook in my free time and I know how to sew."

"Uh... the third one!" Chisuke shouted.

Y/n quietly spoke, "The... first?"

"Oni Mask over here is correct." Kaigaku scoffed, pointing to y/n with his thumb, "Your cat. She said you're a tsuguko. You don't look like one."

"That's understandable." y/n hummed, "I'm not as sharp as I once was, I'm a little slower and I'm definitely a little weaker than before."

"Which Hashira do you train under?" Chisuke questioned then shook his hands, "Wait, wait, wait, don't tell me! You train under the... Love Hashira."

"No."

"Water Hashira!"

"No."

"Insect Hashira!"

"No."

"Flame Hashira?" Kaigaku tried.

"Nope."

"Stone Hashira!

"No."

"Mist Hashira?"

"No."

"Sound Hashira!"

"No."

"Serpent Hashira?"

"No."

Kaigaku and Chisuke looked puzzled.

"If that's the case then you..." Kaigaku began but was practically shoved aside by a sparkly eyed Chisuke.

"The Wind Hashira!?" he demanded and his maroon eyes rounded with wonder as y/n nodded, "That's so cool!"

"I can't see it." Kaigaku said simply, "You apologize too much and you're a bit of a wimp."

"...sorry."

"See what I mean?"

"I can kinda see it!" Chisuke exclaimed, "Nii-san always says the quiet ones are the fiercest ones in battle!"

"Is that so?" y/n murmured then smiled behind her mask, "Heh, my Master used to say the same sometimes."

"He did? :o"

"Uh-huh."

"Y/n." Kaigaku spoke up and y/n turned her head to look at him, "Why do you wear that creepy 🍑 mask all the time?"

"I was told to." y/n said simply.

Chisuke turned around, beginning to walk backwards, "Really? Why is that?"

"Well, I-" y/n began, "Ah! Chisuke!"

The boy tripped over a root in his path and fell back, scraping his hand on a rock with a yelp.

"You clumsy little 💩!!!" Kaigaku shouted at him and Chisuke pouted.

"Chill out, all I did was trip!" he whined then tensed as the trees shivered, "Oh."

"You see now?"

"Yeah..." Chisuke began and shrieked when roots wrapped around his legs, preventing him from standing, "What the- WHAT ARE THESE!?"

"💩, Chisuke!" y/n shouted, preparing to draw her blade only for a thorn studded vine to snatch it away.

She grabbed onto her blade before it could be dragged away and let out a sharp gasp when the vine wrapped around her right hand and wrist instead.

'OW OW OW OW OW OW-' She thought, refusing to let go even as one of the veins were pricked by the sharp thorns, 'I'm not letting go of my damn sword...!'

With one final push, she freed her sword from the vine's grip along with her wrist.

She glanced at her wrist, expression going blank as she saw the jagged scratches the thorns had left in her wrist.

"..." y/n inhaled shakily as her blood rolled down her palm and off her finger tips, dripping onto the forest floor.

Kaigaku took notice, "Damn it, y/n—!"

"Y/n-chan? Are you okay?" Chisuke asked.

Their voices felt distant as y/n stared at the wound, the world around her twisting and becoming distorted as the pain finally bloomed in her wrist.

It crawled along her skin like a wildfire, burning pain causing her hand to shake.

She was bleeding.

That was her blood.

She was bleeding.

Y/n blinked once.

Twice.

Then fainted.
