(We got ANOTHER history essay coming up + a presentation, so ima pop out this chapter and another before the 💩 storm hits)

Moon Breathing, First Form

Y/n slashed at the Upper Moon, letting out a small tch when the attack chopped off his hand rather than his head.

'Damn pest...!'

Dark Moon - Evening Palace

The young Demon Slayer had to twist her body a lil bit to avoid having a hole punched through her side.

She was quick to turn again, attacking once more with a, "Just die already you damn roach, your face pisses me off."

As y/n and Akaza threw hands, Shiori rushed over to Tanjir to check and make sure they were alright.

"Hey hey, Forehead! You good?" the cat demanded then looked over to Rengoku, "Oi, Tempura Top, keep your 🍑 where it is. If you jump in again, we can't guarantee a full recovery!"

"I understand, but I can't allow y/n to put herself in danger like that! Shinazugawa-san would definitely kill me if anything happened to her!" Rengoku shouted back and Shiori wheezed.

"Alright, fair point— rest for a sec! She'll be fine!"

Ah, yes, y/n was doing fine.

"You're quite skilled!" Akaza complimented, eyes bright with excitement as his arms were chopped off as soon as they regenerated, "That stance... those powerful slashes of yours...!"

"You also are a rather tough opponent." y/n hummed, "But, at the same time-"

Y/n grabbed the damn demon by the ankle so he couldn't kick her and potentially send her flying like a ragdoll.

Akaza almost 💩 his pants in that moment, 'This phenomenal strength...!'

Y/n was practically grinning beneath her mask, adorning an odd expression of glee as the thrill of battle sent waves of excitement and energy throughout her body.

"You're weak."

(Gojo, dat you???)

Compared to y/n's standards of strong, yeah.

He was nowhere near as terrifying as her mentor if y/n was being honest. He did make her nerves tingle more than usual, and was just barely able to avoid his attacks, but the tingling wasn't as intense.

As the battle raged on, Akaza was beginning to notice how familiar some of y/n's attacks looked.

And no, they didn't get any easier to avoid/counter because of it. But seeing y/n's movements and breathing style got him oddly... irritated.

And that mask. He knew it was a mask.
But still, those eyes—

'I...I think I can beat him...!' y/n thought.

She jerked her head to the side, avoiding having her damn face punched in as she crouched down.

Wind Breathing, Fourth Form
Rising Dust Storm

She ignored the pain in her lungs and exhaustion in her limbs as she swung, cutting off a lil bit of the demon's chin plus his whole damn forearm but still missing his neck.

Despite that, y/n felt confident.

She could beat him...!

And in that moment-

She stumbled as pain hecking stabbed her in the back. Oops, she'd reached her limit again.

And recklessly switching techniques over and over had come back to bite her in the 🍑.

It took all her strength to remain standing and beneath her snarling oni mask was a look of oh 💩 as she realized just how much of a bad state she was in.

Akaza took his chance because y/n was down and if she got up again, she'd probably kill him. Except now, his expression wasn't as excited as it'd been initially.

It was frightening, so intense that it felt as though the oxygen had just disappeared from y/n's lungs. Damn, what'd she do to make him that angry?

"Got you this time."

Yo. What?

In an instant, the Upper Moon was right in front of her, his fist getting closer and closer to her face.

'Mf, if you think I'm going to let you kill me-!' y/n thought, preparing to slash again despite whatever may come next.

Nothing did come.

Because Rengoku took the damn hit instead and was turned into a 🚚ing donut.

Y/n was speechless.

Tanjiro was mortified.

Inosuke, who was summoned through an ancient demonic ritual by the hands of Shiori, was shocked.

And Shiori?

"YOU MOTHER🚚ER!!!" The cat screeched and hecking jumped Akaza, trying tear his damn eyes out, "I'LL KILL YOU! THIS IS WHY YO DADDY DEAD, I'LL SEND YOUR 🍑 TO JOIN HIM JUST YOU WAIT!!"

Y/n spotted the sun rising just as Akaza did and lunged forward to grab his ♀️🐶 🍑 before he could dip. Rengoku grabbed on as well,holding on tight to keep him still.

"We're not letting you get away, ♀️🐶!" Both her and Rengoku shouted.

No way in hell.

~~~ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ•°*
Okay so he got away.
Not without getting a sword through the chest from Tanjiro along with some very creative words from Shiori.
"*screams in broken french*"
"Yeah, what she said!" Tanjiro tearfully agreed, "It was Rengoku-san who won, not you! Don't run away you damn coward, don't run away!!!"
"Tell em, Tanjiro!" Shiori screeched.
Y/n, still wondering wtf happened, looked at Rengoku whom she was supporting.
Yeah, he was gonna die.
She glanced up at the sun which rose higher and higher into the sky, inhaling shakily as the sunrays caused the demon arm still lodged in her friend's stomach to disintegrate.
Tanjiro was still ♀️🐶 crying over by the woods while Inosuke watched on, looking absolutely flabbergasted.
"Y/n-" Rengoku began but y/n didn't give him a chance to speak, hecking lifting him up despite her body screaming at her to sit tf down and rest.
"Don't speak, save your strength-!" y/n snapped, forcing herself to move forward as she carried the fatally injured Flame Hashira on her back, "I'm not gonna let you die, damn it!"
"Y/n, be careful-" Shiori warned just before y/n's legs gave out on her.
Both the masked Demon Slayer and her dying bestie hit the ground, y/n attempting to get back up right as she hit the ground.
"Damn it, come on...!" y/n choked out, beginning to cry as her mask finally fell from her face.
Rengoku was a little surprised to see tears rolling from y/n's e/c eyes, the girl fighting back a sob as she tried to stand.
Tanjiro and Inosuke only watched at the Flame Hashira told y/n something which got the girl to stay still for a second.
After a long moment, y/n helped Rengoku sit up again, and took a seat by the Flame Hashira, looking him over with a worried expression. Maybe there was something she could do? Anything?
No... but, it seemed as though Rengoku still had something he wished to say.
"Tanjiro." she called, her voice meek as she pat the ground, "Kyo-san wants to speak to you."
Tanjiro, with tear filled eyes, obliged and joined the duo where they sat. He took a seat as well, sniffling quietly, while y/n stared at the ground.
She... couldn't do anything.
'I was a burden again.' she thought miserably, 'I failed to protect someone again. Nothing's changed.'
Y/n fiercely rubbed at her eyes.
"Don't look away."
Y/n wanted to look away.
She really wanted to. But the hand firmly planted on top of her head wouldn't allow it.
The girl sniffled, fighting off tears as her and her Master stood in front of the little grave she'd built.
She couldn't breathe. Her lungs were tightening.
She couldn't breathe...! It should've been her.
Not him, why him? It should've been her!
"I don't want to look." she whispered.
"Don't look away." her Master insisted.
Y/n exhaled quietly, before looking up again and turning her gaze to Rengoku. The Flame Hashira, despite the life slowly ebbing from his body, was still smiling so radiantly.
"Don't look away so you remember why you must continue living. Your reason to keep on fighting."
"Y/n, if you don't mind... I'd like you to take Tanjiro to the Rengoku residence. I believe there's something there left behind by one of my predecessors, something that may help him find the answers he's looking for." Rengoku hummed, "I have something there for you as well."
"Me?" y/n whispered before frantically shaking her head, "Ah... uhm, yes, I'll guide him there..."
"R-Rengoku-san, you shouldn't speak-! Please, save your energy! If we can get you some help in time... at least slow the bleeding with a breathing technique!" Tanjiro began frantically, beginning to get to his feet.
"Sit." y/n grabbed his shoulder and forced him back down, ignoring the bewildered look her sent her. She kept her eyes on Rengoku, her own e/c gaze beginning to blur with tears, "Kyo-san doesn't have much time left so... listen."
It was a long moment before the dying Hashira spoke once more, "I'd like you to relay a message to my younger brother, Senjuro. Tell him to follow his heart... and to walk down the path he feels is right for him."
"Also, please tell my father to take care of himself. And... one last thing, Young Kamado. I believe in your sister, Nezuko, and accept her as a member of the Demon Slayer Corps." Rengoku murmured, "I saw how she protected those passengers with all she had. Anyone who risks their lives to defend humans from demons is a member of the Corps no matter what anyone else says."
Tanjiro's eyes widened as his tears continued to flow, yet Rengoku's gentle little smile remained as he held eye contact with the devastated boy.
"Live with your head held high. No matter how devastated you may be by your weakness, set your heart ablaze. Grit your teeth and look straight ahead. Even if you stop and despair, time won't wait for you or grieve along with you. Don't feel bad about me dying here, as a Hashira, it's my duty to protect my comrades. Any other Hashira would have done the same."
"Young Kamado, Young Boar Boy, Yellow Boy." Rengoku glanced at y/n and gave her a warm smile, "Y/n."
"Keep learning and growing. Then, use that strength to continue supporting the Demon Slayer Corps. I believe in you. I believe in all of you."
That was the last stare for Tanjiro as he began to weep, Inosuke standing near by beginning to cry through his boar mask as well.
Y/n, through her tears, watched as Rengoku closed his eyes. Watched how the life faded from him and he slumped over ever so slightly, dying with a smile.
'Don't look away.' y/n told herself as the world around her began to grow blurry and distant.
She reached out with a trembling hand and grasped his, sobbing as she finally fell apart.
"Kyojuro-san..."
Six yellow eyes, menacing and unblinking.
That scar. That damned scar.
Why the hell was he there?
No, no that wasn't him.
It was dark, the moon shining in the sky as Upper Moon Three stood in front of a tree where he'd stuck that damned sword Tanjiro had thrown at him.
It was battered and broken, nothing better than a stick of scrap metal, but he was still boiling with fury.
"You coward!"
Akaza seethed with fury, trembling with rage that simply had no place to go now that the sword had been completely destroyed.
And those eyes, that damned mask!
That slayer with the mask.
Akaza wasn't dumb. He knew how to tell the difference between an actual face and a mask.
But still.
The mask.
The stance.
The h/c haired slayer shifted her stance, that mask of hers staring at Akaza unblinkingly with an intensity that was all too familiar.
The darkness and blurriness from having his eyes sliced made it somewhat difficult to see them well.
But he was beginning to see things.
That white haori began to look longer, flowing hauntingly in the evening air with purple and black.
Those six yellow eyes seemed to glow menacingly, and Akaza couldn't shake that familiar feeling.
"What's wrong? You're hesitating."
Akaza tensed at the sound of the voice.
Now he was beginning to hear things too.
Despite the difference in pitch, the tone was the same.
That calm yet menacing tone.
The air fogged up a bit as the slayer exhaled, billowing around the masked slayer like smoke.
"Show me more, I'm not done yet."
"Again."
Akaza inhaled and exhaled, inhaled and exhaled. He took quick, labored breaths as his entire being trembled, and his eyes were wide as he stared at the ruined remains of Tanjiro's sword.
He slammed his fist against the tree, imagining that damned mask and the person donning it. So close, he'd some so close to crushing them.
"That boy... and that damned mask wearer. Next time I see them, I'll crush that boy's head and punch that masked slayer's face in...!"
_____________
