Y/n hated killing but if it meant she kept her life then she would do it again.
War was something she'd been trained for.
Both her and Ayumu knew what it would mean when they became Gramps's students and they didn't mind.
After all, what else could they do?
Their way of living wouldn't support them and Kaori for much longer and they had no parents.
The way of the sword was their only way out of the hell they'd been living in for most of their childhood and they weren't going to just throw away that chance.
Y/n knew killing was a natural part of War.
But that didn't mean she had to like it.
The folks on the front lines had a moment of rest, their last battle with some of the Shogun's army having ended with victory.
Y/n had been praised for her actions, having infused a stray vortex with electro so that it would tear through a large amount of the Shogun's soldiers, which had secured their victory.
But y/n felt awful.
She can hear a lot, you know?
And the screams of all those soldiers were seared into her memory, refusing to leave her alone and give her a moment of rest.
They had families. Loved ones. Lives.
And she just crushed all of it beneath her heel.
Y/n gagged, covering her mouth and turning away in time to avoid puking all over herself.
'Damn it.' she thought as she coughed, her throat burning as she rubbed tears from her eyes.
Y/n just wanted to curl up somewhere and hide.
'I hate this, I wanna go home already. Why is this even happening? Why did this even start?' y/n thought, eyes wide and brimming with tears, 'This is stupid, I should've just stayed home where it was quiet, and safe, and—'
"Y/n?"
Y/n choked on air out of surprises and whirled around, surprised that Gorou was there, "Oh!"
Had her thoughts been so loud that she hadn't noticed him coming? That wasn't a good sign, maybe she needed a break...
"Hey Gorou." she greeted with a tired smile as he wandered over, "Did you need something?"
Gorou had been looking for y/n since everyone was enjoying a nice meal together but y/n wasn't there.
Of course, he got worried and went looking for her.
The only reason he found her amidst the annoying storm was because he heard her coughing.
Was she sick?
Oh dear, what if she was dying?
Before leaving, Ayumu had mentioned that she was prone to sickness when on Yashiori island. Why? He had no idea but guessed it was stress related.
"I was just checking on you, that's all." Gorou replied as he joined her, "Are you okay? You haven't been eating much lately."
"Oh." y/n could only reply with that as she tried to ignore the persistent cramps in her abdomen, "I'm just feeling a little under the weather, that's all..."
The h/c haired young lady flinched when Gorou pressed a hand against her forehead with a frantic, "Are you sick? If you are, you should've said something! You need to rest, y/n, standing out in the wind and rain isn't a good idea!"
"Ah... Gorou, honestly..." y/n mumbled with a tiny pout, "I'm fine, I promise. I just need to... sit down for a little while..."
Gorou freaked out when y/n's legs decided to stop working and she almost fell, the General being quick enough to catch her before that could happen.
"Y/n!"
"I'm fine, Gorou, I just-"
"You need rest!"
Next thing y/n knew, she was bundled up in her tent. Gorou had given her his blankets so that she'd stay warm and had even insisted on feeding her.
Y/n was fine, really.
The first day of her monthly blood ritual was always the roughest and tended to leave her bedridden.
In between the stress, the pain, and sitting out in the rain, y/n wasn't doing too well. And proceeded to get worse in the evening.
"Damn it, it hurts..." y/n grumbled from beneath all the blankets she had wrapped around herself.
Gorou, who had been looking after y/n to make sure she wasn't dying or anything, felt helpless as the bundle of blankets occasionally emitted a quiet groan or shifted around a little bit.
He couldn't do much to help anyways.
Why tf did periods exist anyways?
Hmph!
Anyways, he hoped that things were going okay with everyone on Watatsumi.

"Ayumu, why the hell are you smiling???"
"What? I can't smile when I get tied up?"
Aether, Paimon and the rest of the members of Swordfish II gave Ayumu mortified looks as the young man continued smiling happily.
"OF COURSE NOT!!!" Paimon shouted from the cage she'd been shoved in, "YOU'RE TIED UP!!!"
"I mean, it's not as bad if I imagine y/n being the one to tie me up." Ayumu said with a shrug.
"You're disgusting..." Side Character 10169 murmured, squinting at Ayumu.
"It's called a coping mechanism." Ayumu replied with his usual smug grin.
The members of Swordfish II had been captured by some Shogunate and dragged onto their ship.
None of this would've happened had Paimon not fallen into one of their obvious traps.
"Damn it, shut up!" one of the soldiers shouted at Ayumu, "Someone gag the salmon top, he might call that wretched raven of his!!!"
"♀🐶, don't touch me, I'm y/nsexual." Ayumu snapped, leaning away when one of the soldiers came near with some fabric.
He paused, "The 🚚 does that mean?"
"It means if you don't have h/c hair, e/c eyes and s/c skin, I'm not interested." Ayumu huffed with a pouty expression.
Aether would've facepalmed himself but he was still tied up.
"Side Character 50792 over there fits that description." the soldier pointed out, gesturing to a soldier who had been sweeping the deck.
Ayumu squinted then shook his head, "Nah, they've gotta be cute."
"HEY! SIDE CHARACTER 50792 IS CUTE!!!" someone shouted.
"Oh? You think so?" Ayumu questioned, "Are ya'll dating?"
"I-"
"Oh who am I kidding, he's way out of your league!" Ayumu shouted, looking about ready to start laughing, "I BETCHA DON'T HAVE THE BALLS TO CONFESS!"
Ayumu then broke out into a fit of hysterical laughter while the soldier tried to yell at him over the laughter, telling the young man to stfu.
At first, Aether thought Ayumu was just trolling.
But then he noticed a raven which had landed behind him and was pecking at the ropes which binded his wrists. After a minute or so, Aether's wrists were free and the raven moved on to the next Resistance member, tugging at the ropes.
The blond realized this was the same raven he'd seen with Ayumu many times before. This time, it didn't have bells attached to its talons. Instead, it had a paper talisman with it.
What had Ayumu called her...?
Ayumu still hadn't stopped laughing at the soldiers even though one had grabbed him by the throat and literally started strangling him.
In their rage, they failed to notice the raven freeing Ayumu from the ropes and it was too late by the time someone actually took notice of her.
"Sir, look-!" someone tried to warn the soldier strangling Ayumu.
Too late.
The rest of Swordfish II cringed away at the sudden burst of heat as Ayumu literally blew up the side of the ship, smoking surrounding everyone.
Amidst the smoke, there was a voice.
"Suzu? How much time until this boat sinks?"
"No clue, all that jostling around made those barrels tip over, so it hit a different spot than anticipated." came another voice.
As the smoke finally cleared, Aether and the others saw Ayumu just chilling there with Suzu perched on his shoulder. The young man was carelessly holding a soldier(the one who'd tried strangling him) by the foot, keeping him from falling into the water below.
"Great!" Ayumu exclaimed with a smile, "Let's make that three minutes, yeah?"
"Wait, what?" Paimon cried.
"Suzu over here found a little something something that could turn the tides in our favor!" Ayumu explained, "We're just doing a little test run, that's all. You guys go, m'kay?"
'But I'm the Captain, shouldn't I be making these decisions? 🧐' Aether wondered.
He didn't object and casually watched along with the rest of Swordfish II on another ship as Ayumu proceeded to blow up an entire ship. Quite the bizarre experience, one that definitely left Aether with some questions, but that wasn't what he needed.
He needed sleep, that's what he needed.
