(No spicy nuggets for Ayumu)
Ayumu, y/n and Kaori had once lived on Yashiori Island.
Though they quickly fled the island when y/n started hearing things in her dreams, becoming extremely ill and her nervous levels went from 90 to over 1000.
Now that y/n was back, that unnerving aura had also returned. Far stronger than it was during her last visit.
"Hey, Ayumu, is it just me or..." y/n cast a wary glance at the serpent head a distance away, "Has something on the island changed a little."
Ayumu debated internally on whether or not he should tell her. If he did, she'd likely freak out.
If he didn't, he'd be going back on the promise he made to her and Kaori.
"It's... the Tatarigami." Ayumu gave in, "Some jerks broke the wards and now the stuff is all over the island. So it's going to be a little worse for you because of your... y'know. Super Hearing."
"Oh, so that's it." y/n mumbled, "Urgh... I can't wait to go back to Watatsumi..."
"I'm sure everyone there would be glad to see you." Ayumu pointed out then smiled, "Hehe, everyone swears that the crops grow more and the monsters steer clear when you're there."
Y/n's face heated up, "H-Huh?! They say that?!"
"Mmmhm!"
"No way!!!" y/n shook her head, "But, uh, Ayumu... since I've been back I've never gotten the chance to speak with you about... uhm.."
"Prison?"
"Yeah, that."
"Well... it sure wasn't pleasant." Ayumu admitted then pursed his lips, "And those jerks kept talking 💩 about my hair once the dye started going away... but it wasn't horrible."
"Not... horrible?" y/n was mortified.
"Yeah, I didn't have to do anything all day and I was usually very well-behaved. Although, the guards would get mad at me every time I fell asleep during our meal times or during the day." Ayumu continued, "Also, I had Suzu to keep me company."
Y/n deadpanned, "Excuse me?"
"I'm guessing you met her? Yeah, she's a demon I accidentally summoned while muttering random 💩in my sleep. Don't be worried, she's powerless anywhere that isn't Seirai or Tsurumi Island." Ayumu assured his friend with a smile.
"Ayumu-"
"Yes, dear?"
"YOU SUMMONED A DEMON!!!"
"Yeah?"
"HOW ARE YOU SO CALM?"
"Mm? Centuries of being sealed made her rather docile." Ayumu replied.
"I sure hope so." y/n huffed and her eyes brightened, "Oh! Naku Weed!"
Ayumu sat down on a rock, not at all bothered by the rain as he glanced out at the vortexes which had randomly popped up at sea. They were tall, large in size too.
If Ayumu had to guess, one of the Shogun's ships would be shredded if it were to be dragged into one of those things. As for a small boat? It'd be obliterated.
Ayumu glanced back at y/n who was gathering some Naku Weed with a determined expression, a bit more light in her e/c.
Oh dear, here comes that feeling again.
Ayumu covered his face with a hand, cheeks beginning to heat up.
"You know, Ayumu." y/n began as she stood up again, "I-"
She frowned, "Are you okay?"
Ayumu looked at her in alarm and shifted his body away, "I'm fine!"
🐂💩 and y/n knew it.
Y/n wandered over, taking a seat beside her friend and grabbing his face.
Ayumu complained while y/n turned his face to hers so she could see.
"Your face is really red... do you have a fever?" y/n inquired.
"No, I'm just feeling a little tired." Ayumu said simply.
"Oh, we should probably get you out of the rain then!" y/n realized.
"Hold on a moment, doesn't it feel kinda familiar? I'm getting a real big feeling of deja vu right now." Ayumu pointed out and y/n paused.
It... it did kinda feel familiar...
oh.
Y/n's face was on fire in an instant as she let go of his face and recoiled, "Wh-Why'd you bring that up all of a sudden?!"
"I didn't." Ayumu snickered, "I just said it felt familiar."
"You-I-wha-" y/n was malfunctioning, "But you remember too, don't you?"
Ayumu nodded with a soft smile, "I do."

"Hey!"
Ayumu's back hit a tree and he jumped when y/n's hand hit the poor tree.
"You're an idiot, you know that?" she snapped, "What makes you think that charging into a fight all on your own is a good idea, huh?!"
Ayumu was really in trouble. Y/n had been so stressed the past few days that she hardly got any sleep. To make things worse, he'd foolishly ran at a whole group of Shogunate who had plans of ambushing the group of Resistance members y/n and Ayumu had been accompanying.
Sure, he took them all out.
Scared the living 💩out of y/n though.
Especially when he came back with a whole arrow in his side.
Y/n and Ayumu were currently on their way back to Narukami Island together but y/n had just slammed Ayumu against a tree out of nowhere.
Ugh, the rain wasn't helping either.
Ayumu kept thinking about what happened in Chinju Forest because of it.
"I won, didn't I?"
Wrong answer.
"OW! Y/N!" Ayumu snapped when y/n grabbed him by the ear.
"I THOUGHT YOU WERE GONNA DIE WHEN YOU CAME BACK WITH THAT ARROW IN YOUR SIDE!!!! DO YOU REALIZE HOW SCARED I WAS?! IT HAD POISON ON IT!!!"
"Y/n, I got food poisoning several times from the food I cooked plus got stabbed with a knife laced with lethal poison on it. A little arrow with some spider venom on it isn't going to do much to me."
"But... you..." y/n's eyes began welling up with tears, "You just really scared me... please never do something like that ever again."
Ayumu sighed and pat y/n's head, "Sorry... I can't make a promise like that. Especially in this messy state Inazuma is currently in."
"Then you should leave too!" y/n pointed out, "Kaori, you, myself and Gramps."
Ayumu shook his head, "Kaori is refusing to leave, Gramps says he wants Inazuma to be his final resting place and I still have some unfinished business here. You... y/n, you're free to go. There's nothing holding you here."
"But you three! I don't wanna leave without you three!" y/n protested.
"Well then I guess I'll have to throw you on that boat myself." Ayumu said with a tiny shrug then poked y/n's cheek as she began to cry, "Hey, don't cry. Stop that."
Y/n, of course, didn't listen.
"YOU CAN'T JUST MAKE ME LEAVE!!!! I'LL BE ALL ALONE IN A NEW PLACE AND I WON'T HAVE ANY OF YOU THERE WITH ME!!! I'LL BEING LIVING ALONE AGAIN AND I'LL-!!!!"
"Ah geez..." Ayumu sighed, rolling his eyes as y/n started wailing about how she was going to be alone and how she was definitely going to die without anyone there to help her, "Y/n, please-"
"NO!! I REFUSE!!!! I'M NOT GOING-"
Y/n was interrupted when Ayumu grabbed her face and squished it between his hands with a huffy, "Quit crying already, your eyes will end up being itchy."
"You guys can't just make me go alone." y/n mumbled as Ayumu wiped away some of her tears only for rainwater to replace them, "That'd be breaking our promise to always stay together."
"It won't be. Kaori and I will join you after we do what we need to do. We'll drag Gramps along if we have to!" Ayumu replied then grinned, "We won't be far behind you, I promise."
Y/n heard the uncertainty in his voice.
And she knew just as much as he did that the chances of them meeting again were highly unlikely, especially with the current situation.
Despite that, she forced herself to smile.
It was a wobbly, hesitant smile.
"Good." she whispered, afraid that her voice would break if she were to speak any louder.
Ayumu stared at y/n for a moment, wondering if sending her away on her own was really a good idea. Even he himself was worried about what may happen to her or if she would even make it out of Inazuma with her life.
'What if she...' Ayumu couldn't even finish the thought as he pulled a surprised y/n closer, embracing her as though she would disappear if he let go.
Y/n hugged him back, reaching up and patting his head.
"Now look. You've gone and made me worried..." Ayumu grumbled.
"Sorry..." y/n replied, "You've gotta promise me that I'll see you all again. And no, words won't work."
The duo stood there, embracing one another in the rain.
Ayumu knew that even if he did promise her, there'd still be a high chance of that promise being broken.
"Hmph, fine." she huffed, tilting her head up to make eye contact Ayumu, "I promise that I'll come back for you guys some day if things here show no signs of getting any better."
Ayumu blinked in surprise, "Y/n."
"I promise." y/n repeated, "I promise to come back and fight if I have to."
There were no signs of fear on y/n's face now as Ayumu searched for one.
It was only then that he chuckled, "Alright."
Y/n nodded before giving Ayumu's lips a quick little peck. His face was red when she pulled away, "What was that for?"
"To seal the promise!" y/n replied then smirked, "What? Are you flustered?"
"N-No, not at all! But, uh, don't you think it was a little too brief?" Ayumu replied quickly, 'I love it when she's like this! ^^'
"Are you asking for another?"
"Mm... maybe?"
Ayumu internally cheered when y/n gave him another kiss, this one lasting much longer than the previous one as Ayumu pulled her closer. As close as they could get since atoms exist.
The damn rain was cold but neither of the duo really cared. After all, y/n was set to leave Inazuma the next day. There was no harm in enjoying one another's presence for a little longer.
Even as y/n kissed him so lovingly and held onto him as if it would be their last time meeting, a single thought popped up into Ayumu's mind.
'You deserve better.'
