It didn't take long for the classroom to fill with excited students. Nova sat at her own desk, which happened to be right next to Iida. Luckily he took his self appointed job of greeting people very seriously. So he didn't linger very often.

She tried to keep her head down. But she didn't have much to actually distract herself with. She looked at the student handbook, there was supposed to be an orientation after the first period that would take up most of the day. With lunch afterwards and some possible training if you were in a hero course. They didn't seem to have actual classes scheduled until tomorrow, meaning this day was just an introduction to UA.

She sighed and put it down. Glancing around. The class was almost full, Iida was standing there yelling at some guy for having his feet on the table. He had blonde spiky hair and a crazed smirk. Along with a confident bad attitude.

Other students that caught Nova's interest were a girl with long green hair and big feet, her tongue sticking out of her mouth as she looked around the classroom blinking oddly. A boy with a bird head sat on Nova's other side. He seemed just as quiet as she was. More reserved in nature, listening to music just barely loud enough for Nova to hear the tune as well.

Soon almost every student seemed to be there, but the teacher was a no show still. Nova bit her lip. Unlike All of these students, her teacher would know who she was immediately. They were probably already aware that she was in his class.

Nova didn't have good luck with teachers. Usually they all hated that she was in their classes. Usually they did what they could to get her out.

Usually they-

"If you're just here to make friends, you can pack up your stuff now."

Nova couldn't see him. But she heard the voice of an adult outside the door. Blocked by the Iida boy and two other students that just came in. She peered her head to look, but couldn't see him from her position in the next to back row.

His appearance must've been striking though, considering the shocked reaction her classmates gave him.

"Welcome to the UA hero course."

His voice was muffled, Nova couldn't hear much else but it sounded like he was already criticizing her classmates.

He stepped in the room. The man was tall, looked really tired. Not at all like a teacher. He was wearing all black minus a long grey scarf wrapped around his neck and shoulders. Using her quirk, Nova could tell it had thin metal strands inside of it. Was it a type of weapon?

He looked around. Scanning the class while holding a yellow bag. That honestly looked like a sleeping bag or a thick blanket.

"Hello, I'm Shota Aizawa..." He said lazily. His eyes stopped moving around the room when he seemed to see Nova. "Your teacher." He stated, locking eyes with her.

"Oh no... I can already tell he hates me..."

Nova shrunk down in her seat nervously. Hai gaze moved away from her after just a few short seconds.

"Alright let's get to it. Put these on and head outside." He sighed, pulling what looked like a gym uniform out of his sleeping bag.

Nova frowned, glancing anxiously at the first day schedule. It didn't say anything about gym class...

But he seemed serious. Slowly but surely students began climbing out of the seats. He pulled a full box out of his sleeping bag, how it managed to fit Nova didn't know. But it was full of new uniforms in plastic bags.

They scrambled to each grab one, checking the sizes and passing them around. It seemed to be run by Iida, saying orders as though he was any less confused than the rest of them.

The teacher looked at her again. Wordlessly staring her down as she picked up a uniform. Like he was studying her.

She looked away, face red.

This was going to be a long day.

Nova made her way to the changing rooms. Following the few other girls in her class.

"Hey! It's you..." She looked to the side and recognized the girl she helped at the exams. "Totally cool we're in the same class! I'm Kyoka Jirou by the way." She extended a hand. The second one offered to Nova today. There were callouses on her fingers, like she played instruments often. Her nails were short and painted back.

"I'm Nova..." She took the had nervously. Giving it a shake.

"Nova? That's cool. Sorry I ran off so quickly last time. I was just panicking over points you know?" Jirou said casually, playing with the long aux cord connected to her ears. It seemed to have a mind of its own, the way it moved. But Nova assumed She was simply controlling it like an extra limb. "I thought the craziness would end at the exam. But our new teacher seems totally weird. What do you think he's going to have us do once we get outside?"

Jirou seemed to be completely comfortable with just talking to Nova. Even though they had only interacted once before. She seemed to be very easy going, Nova kinda liked it.

She shrugged in response. "If I'm being honest I have no idea what's going on... I just hope I survive my first day here..."

"I hear that." Jirou nodded.

They entered the changing rooms. Lined with lockers with a hallway leading to showers and bathroom stalls. Nova found her own locker and opened it, placing her bag and books inside.

She followed the lead of the other girls, simply changing in front of everyone else. Nova was used to that, they did it at Junshi all the time.

She pulled off her skirt and unbuttoned her white blouse. She figured she should keep on her undershirt to wear beneath her gym uniform.

She kept her eyes to herself, not wanting to make anyone uncomfortable. There were only five other girls. Jirou, The proper girl with black hair, A pink girl who seemed very excitable, a girl with short brown hair and pink cheeks, and the green haired girl. Who seemed fairly odd but also friendly in a way.

"Woah."

Nova glanced to the side. Jirou was changing beside her. She was looking up at Nova with a slightly shocked look. "Is that real?" She asked. Nova paused and looked down.

Her shoulder. The two flying birds on her skin in black ink.

"Oh... Uh yeah..." She admitted. Glancing away nervously. "You think I'll get in trouble for it? Some schools are pretty strict..."

"I hope not, how'd you get a tattoo at fifteen anyways?" Jirou asked, she seemed more impressed than put off.

"It's a long story..." Nova said. Brushing it off. "I kinda regret it."

"I think it's pretty punk. Like a rockstar you know? I'd totally get one but I think my mom would disown me." Jirou sighed.

Nova pulled on the gym uniform. Covering her shoulders.

"You two look totally mature." Another voice said. It was the brown haired girl. She was looking up at Nova and the black haired ponytail girl.

Nova tilted her head.

"I know right, I was just thinking the same thing." Jirou put a hand on her hip. "You're both pretty tall. And you're totally muscular Nova. Did you do a bunch of training for UA or something?"

"Oh not for UA specifically... My last school was pretty physically demanding I guess." Nova said nervously. Rubbing the back of her neck.

"And you look suuper elegant! What was your name again?" The brown haired girl asked the taller ponytail girl.

"I'm Momo yaoyorozu." She smiled kindly. They were right, she definitely seemed mature. Less girly and more... Like an actual woman. "You can call me YaoMomo."

"I'm Ochaco Uraraka!" The brown haired girl said.

"Hey since we're introducing ourselves I'm Mina Ashido!" The pink skinned girl said, jumping towards the group with a big smile. "We should all be friends! Can you believe there are only six of us in this class??"

"Seems like it's harder for girls to get in than boys..." The other girl said. Her voice sounded a little hoarse. "I'm Tsuyu Asui. You can call me Tsu, Ribbit."

"Actually from what I've studied it's just less common for females to show interest in being heroes. It's definitely a male dominant field." YaoMomo said.

"Whatttt?? Come on that's like... So nineteen hundreds!" The pink girl whined. "Let's go out there and show those boys what we're made of!"

"That's what I'm talking about." Jirou laughed.

Nova smiled softly but stayed on the outskirts of their conversation. She was used to being in Male dominated classrooms. Junshi actually had way fewer girls than UA did. Nova was glad this class had more girls. They all seemed quite nice.

But still... Nova felt like she couldn't truly get close with them... Not yet. What if they found out about her father? Who she was? They'd hate her.

She didn't think it would hurt to... Keep it quiet...

For now.

A... Quirk assessment test?

Nova looked around at the other students. Trying to see if they were as shocked as she was. A test? On the first day?

She guessed it made a little sense... To test and see where every student was physically before jumping into training. Junshi has similar tests throughout the year but... Wouldn't that be on the schedule? Why were they doing it now?!

"What about orientation?" Uraraka asked with a frown. "We'll miss it!"

"If you wanna make the big leagues you can't waste time on pointless ceremonies." Their teacher responded.

Nova frowned. Didn't Pros attend ceremonies all the time? That didn't quite make sense but She would rather die than contradict this teacher. She was already on his bad side. Or at least she assumed she was, based on how he stared her down earlier.

"Here at UA we aren't required to stick with traditions. Which means I get to run my class how I see fit." He said, looking over his shoulder.

Dear God he was looking at her again.

His eyes seemed to automatically go to Nova. She understood she wasn't exactly a typical student. But he was starting to make her extremely nervous...

Did he see her as some type of threat? The thought suddenly occurred to her. What if he thought she was a danger to his other students? That she was a villain... Is that why he was keeping an eye on her so much?

He looked away. Maybe it was all in Nova's head. She looked at the ground and then to the side, at her classmates.

Iida was looking at her too now. The boy quickly adjusted his gaze when she caught him, but she was sure he'd been staring at her just then.

Little did she know that not only did she catch on to Aizawa's lingering attention. But so did he.

The boy at first didn't think much of the redhead girl. During their first interaction she was slightly odd. But now he kept catching their teacher staring her down specifically. Practically glaring. It seemed completely purposeful and Iida had no idea why he only seemed to do it to her.

"You've been taking standardized tests most of your lives...." Aizawa pulled a device out of his pocket. "But you never were allowed to use your quirks in physical exams."

Nova's eyes widened. She should have expected to be able to openly use her quirk at UA. Since they took the entrance exam. But it was still mildly surprising that they'd just let them run wild with them.

"The country is still pretending we were all created equal. By not letting those with the most power excel. It's not rational." Her teacher explained. He turned and looked at the boy with the spiky blonde hair. The one who was arguing with ingenium's son in class earlier. "Bakugou. You scored the most points during the entrance exam."

Nova blinked and looked at the boy again. No wonder he acted so arrogant, if he got the most did that mean he was the strongest in the whole school?

"What was your farthest distance throw with a softball when you were in Junior high?" The teacher asked him.

The boy frowned. "Sixty-seven meters I think." He said.

Nova bit her lip. At Junshi they had done a similar test, though it was at the beginning of her time there. She had scored fifty.

"Try doing it with your quirk." The teacher said. Nova raised her eyebrows. That would be interesting, if they were all going to do it... How could she use her quirk to get the farthest throw?

... would she want to get the farthest throw?

She wasn't sure. She didn't want to stand out much, beating her classmates at something would just make them dislike her more... While they didn't dislike her yet... She knew that one day she'd have to say her last name. Though she wanted to keep from that as long as possible.

It was stupid, delaying the inevitable. But earlier... The girls in the locker room had been so nice to her. She wasn't used to it. Iida had tried to shake her hand. Everyone was treating her like she was a normal student.

It wouldn't hurt to stay like this... Just a little longer. Pretend to be someone else for awhile. Pretend She wasn't Nova Kurayami she was just... Nova.

"DIE!!!!!"

BANG!!!

Nova felt the explosion in her chest as Bakugou threw the ball. She didn't know what she had been expecting, but that wasn't it. Nova couldn't even see the ball anymore. How far has it gone? It must've landed miles in the distance.

"All of you need to know your max capabilities." Mr Aizawa said, showing the class the screen. 705.2 meters.

Nova bit her thumb. Okay so maybe not miles away. But that was impossibly far for a softball pitch. Even with her quirk she doubted she would make it close. No wonder he won the exams, he was a powerhouse.

"It's the most rational way to figure out your potential as heroes." Their teacher finished.

"Are you kidding me? Over seven hundred meters..."

"It's impressive I must say. But I have to question the word he chose to call out." The Iida boy mumbled, putting a hand to his chin.

He was just a few people away from Nova in the line of students, it wasn't hard to hear him mumbling every once and awhile.

"This is what I'm talking about!!"

"I want to go! It looks like fun!"

Nova understood her class's excitement. I mean it wasn't often kids their age were allowed to experiment with their quirks to this extent. Unless it was in their own homes or on private property. Nova felt her own excitement bubble in her gut, though she was equally as nervous.

"It looks fun huh..." Their teacher mumbled.

"Uh oh..." Nova thought. He didn't seem too happy about their excitement. The man seemed extremely serious. She wasn't sure why either.

"You have three years here to become a hero. You think it's all going to be games and playtime?"

Nova bit her lip. Waiting for him to scold them. But to her surprise he... Smirked.

That freaked her out wayyy more than his scowl.

"Idiots." He said with a smile. "Today you'll compete in eight physical tests to gauge your potential. Whoever comes in last will have none, and be expelled immediately.,

Nova's eyes widened. Expelled?! For failing a test on the first day? What kind of school was this?? That wasn't fair at all.

Obviously her classmates panicked. She did as well. He couldn't possibly be serious could he?? Expelling someone?? Why?! It didn't matter if everyone in her class had tons of potential. Someone would have to get last place! Would he really expel a student simply because they weren't as good as their classmates?! He was crazy!

Nova looked at the man. Who has turned his attention to another student. Staring down the boy next to Nova. He had fluffy green hair and a plain face, but right now he seemed extremely panicked. Holding onto his own wrist and staring at his hand.

"Like i said. I get to decide how this class runs. Understand?!" The teacher moved his messy hair to get a full look at his students. His face still holding that almost crazed smile.

"If that's a problem you can head home right now."

Nova bit her lip. For a second she actually considered it. Maybe... She should just take the fall. Fail so that the others could stay in school.

Besides unlike them she didn't hold a passionate dream to be a pro hero. She was literally just doing this because the opportunity was handed to her.

But... She couldn't afford to get expelled again. At this point literally no school would take her. Graduating UA would look awesome on a permanent record. Being expelled from it on her first day on the other hand... She'd have to beg even the lowest of schools to let her in.

Nova looked up and to her horror she realized he was staring at her again. Almost like... He knew exactly what she was thinking. Did he... Expect this?

Maybe that was his plan. Maybe he wanted her to fail and use it as an excuse to expel her.

"You can't send one of us home! I mean... We just got here! Even if it wasn't the first day that isn't fair!" Uraraka argued.

Nova couldn't understand the people who had the guts to speak up to teachers like that. Though she did agree with her.

"Oh and you think natural disasters are? Or power hungry villains? Hm?" The teacher asked. Uraraka hesitated. "The world is full of unfairness, it's a hero's job to combat it. If you want to be a pro you'll have to push yourself to the brink."

Nova blinked. She agreed with him as well. Not with the expulsion but what he said about unfairness. If anyone knew the world was unfair... It was Nova Kurayami.

But... Nova didn't really try to combat unfairness. Not really. Rather she accepted it and moved on. Did that mean she wasn't meant to be a hero?

He looked at her again. But... He seemed less angry this time.

"For the next three years UA will throw one terrible hardship after another at you." He said. It almost seemed... Like he was talking to her. "So go beyond... Plus ultra style."

"Show me it's no mistake you're here."
