53: 𝙱𝚊𝚔𝚞𝚐𝚘𝚞 𝚟𝚜 𝙺𝚞𝚛𝚊𝚢𝚊𝚖𝚒
Nova took a deep breath. The tunnel was dark, the only light was at the end. Out in the open of the arena.
Nova knew she had to win this. Not just for herself either. She only got this far because of Iida and Kubota dropping out. Nova hasn't even won a match yet, not in the since of completely besting someone. She figured she could just force Bakugou out of bounds, that seemed more likely than him ever forfeiting or being trapped. Not only was he powerful with a strong quirk, but he was also smart and strategic.
She walked down the hall, taking deep calming breaths. Her stomach turned.
At least this time she didn't have any broken bones, recovery girl had healed her. Kubota's antivenom had given her body enough energy to heal with her quirk. Over all she felt fine, she hadn't gotten a chance to thank Kubota again for everything. He was taken back to his class's stands once the teachers found out what happened.
Light burned her tired as as she stepped out into the field. Each step up towards the platform felt shaky. She glanced around, there was a pile of metal on the ground to her right. She realized that if was what she pulled last time, Instead of putting it back or taking it away they left it by the field...
For her to use.
Her eyes were pulled back to her opponent right across from her. His eyes were red and full of fiery hate. He had been looking forward to this, whilst Nova had been dreading it.
"Hey villain." Bakugo said, Nova prayed his voice wouldn't carry to the stands. "Don't you dare hold back. If I'm gonna beat you back to hell I want you to be at full strength."
Nova didn't say anything, she had no talent for smack talk and didn't feel like responding to his taunts. She had to stay calm... And couldn't let herself get upset.
"HERE WE HAVE TWO COMPLETE POWERHOUSES!!! Bakugo Katsuki who's personality is as explosive as his quirk!!! Verses Nova Kurayami who has nerves of steel!!" Mic introduced. Ready to start the match as they both stood across from each other.
"Let's see how well your daddy taught you." Bakugo said with a glare. Nova swallowed thickly, wishing she could go back in time and just... Not get out of bed this morning.
"Players get ready!! Set!!! Go!!" Midnight announced, waving her prop. Bakugo didn't hesitate, and Nova couldn't either. She couldn't stand too close to the line, she knew Bakugo was capable of blowing her away in one move if she was too close. That explosion he used against Uraraka's final move was extremely powerful. It was probably a hard move to pull off, but that didn't mean he wouldn't use it against Nova as well.
He pushed off the ground and blasted towards Nova, who blocked his attack with a plate of metal seconds before he couch reach her. Unfortunately Bakugo was as agile as he was strong. It a complicated move he blasted himself up and over her, then towards her once he was behind her back.
An explosion hit her because she couldn't react, her back felt like it was on fire and she knocked over her own temporary metal wall. She fell to the ground and Bakugo didn't waste anytime going after her. She was certain he was completely prepared to beat the shit out of her on live TV.
Nova pulled all the metal she had previously used against Iida towards herself, one piece hit Bakugo over the head as he ran towards her. Knocking him to the ground.
Nova didn't know people could growl. But Bakugo sure did, snarling like an animal and jumping up with even more anger on his face. Nova stood up and stumbled backwards, throwing more metal attacks at him. Her fingers brushed the metal and it shifted forms, she made sure they weren't too sharp. She didn't want to impale him, instead they were thick panels of metal rushing forward at quick speeds.
Bakugo jumped to the side to avoid one and then blasted two more away with his quirk. He was on the offensive, moving at horrifying speeds...
But... He wasn't as fast as Iida had been. Nova had an easier time keeping up than she did in her last match. Dodging and launching counter attacks wasn't nearly as difficult. But when he landed them it hurt like hell. Nova's jacket was in tatters, then again so was his. His explosions seemed focused around his hands, he didn't seem to use anything else to attack.
Nova needed more metal.
She realized, glancing around. She had already pulled all of the unused railings that surrounded the edge of the crowd. And all of the metal around the platform they fought on. She didn't know if she could pull any more without endangering someone.
"FIGHT ME!!!" Bakugo yelled which Nova hesitated her attacks. It took energy and concentration to draw in lots of metal, a feat she couldn't do when blocking and evading his attacks.
Noav blocked a strong explosion, only for him to change momentum quickly once again. Hitting her left shoulder full force and sending her flying across the arena.
She landed on the same shoulder, her ears ringing and vision blurring. She heard a long high pitched ringing in her ears, the sound of Bakugou's explosions approaching sounded muffled. She groaned on her back, her left shoulder felt like it was on fire. Burnt and bruised. She pulled herself up but found she couldn't even more her left arm, the shoulder swelling instantly. Whether in the explosion or the fall she must've dislocated it. Her shoulder felt numb and ther was a warm pain stretching down her arm.
Explosions approached and she forced herself onto her feet, her right hand holding her left shoulder nervously. She was injured... Again. She hopes they wouldn't pull her. Midoriya had broken all of his fingers and they still let him keep fighting... That had to be worse than this... right?
She dove to the side right as Bakugo aimed an explosion, making sure to cover her Blindspot Incase he decided to pull another switch up in her. She rolled and felt her left arm practically flop around before she hit the ground running. Putting more distance between him and herself so she could formulate some sort of plan.
She stood across from him, stirred up dust around them spread through the air on their paths towards the ground. She panted slightly and looked up at him. He stared back.
Nova felt the warm hum of metal as she used this small pause in their fight to her advantage. A sheet she had used to guard her Blindspot wrapped around her left arm and shoulder. She grit her teeth as her cold grey eyes stared into Bakugou's.
Without dropping eye contact, there was a sickening pop. Bakugou's eyes widened. The metal around her arm shoved her join back into socket, burning pain burst through her shoulder and chest but soon after it dulled again. The ache was still there, but she could move it.
For the first time ever...
Bakugo looked absolutely horrified.
