"BYE! GOOD LUCK!!"
Nova yelled as she ditched the boy she saved on one of the platforms. Nova could live with herself if he didn't pass the obstacle course round, she could NOT live with herself if he fell to his death or something.
"HEY WAIT!!" He yelled to her, she didn't stop but she turned her head and called back.
"SORRY!!" She yelled to him nervously.
Shinsou clinched his fist and held back the urge to try and take over her mind. She could take him all the way across... but that was no way to repay the girl who gave him another chance.
After that embarrassing display.
What kinda aspiring hero needs saving during a school competition like this?! No way anyone would move him to the hero course now, not unless he got a chance to show his quirk.
"...thanks." he whispered under his breath as he watched the girl swing away like a character in a comic book.
Nova Kurayami. He'd know her anywhere.
He briefly wondered if she knew who he was at all. Or if just like with most everyone else... He faded into the background again.
Or maybe... She saved him because she recognized him...
He scoffed to himself. Yeah right, they only spent five months in the same middle school. Before she was expelled for "cheating" although everyone in their class knew that was a load of shit. Not that most of them cared.
He wished he could get a chance to talk to her... But now really wasn't the time.

Nova made up for the time she lost in the chasm when she made it to the mine field.
Because the mines were all made of metal and explosives. Nova ran as fast as she could, which wasn't very fast due to her leg aching and her exhaustion from throwing a literal human being around. But with her quirk she could easily lift landmines out of her path and then set them back down behind herself.
Before she knew it she was right behind Bakugou and Todoroki and...
Midoriya?
He flew over them all at breakneck speeds after setting off a huge explosion that made Nova stumble. Then he jumped and both Bakugou and Todoroki's backs and set off another one. Right in Nova's face.
Thankfully she was able block her face and most of her body with another landmine.
In the end she made fourth place...
Fourth place.
Out of seven classes of students, Nova was in the top five. She gasped for breath, standing beside Todoroki as they stood back in the arena. The crowd cheering loudly.
Midoriya had won. He was crying at this point, confetti streaming down around them. Nova waited, heart still beating twice as hard as usual. More and more students started to stream in as everyone finished the race.
Nova looked over, most of her classmates were in the top twenty. With many from class 1-B as well. Nova even saw the boy she saved earlier come in, weirdly being carried by another boy. But she didn't question it.
She waited anxiously as more and more students started to come in. But there was still no sign of Shoji...
"And that makes forty two!" Midnight called out when the blonde boy from class 1-B walked in. He looked around lazily.
"Which is the limit of students that will be participating in the next game! All other contestants have failed to advance!" Midnight said. Nova's heart plummeted.
Right as Shoji passed the finish line.
"Awh what a bummer! Let's give them a round of applause for their hard work!!" Mic said over the speakers. Shoji locked eyes with Nova as he was told he wouldn't be progressing. That was it, he had lost. So had all the other students behind him. By a hair, if he had been just a little faster he would have made forty two instead of forty three.
Nova frowned. It almost didn't seem fair to her. But he gave her a shrug, as though it wasn't a big deal. Even though his eyes showed massive disappointment.
"Those who have progressed make your way to the center field to hear about the next game!!"
Nova started to walk away with the group, eyes on her friend. "I'm sorry." She muttered, not knowing if he could hear or not. She briefly considered asking if she could give him her own place. He deserved it more than she did.
Now she was truly alone, she hoped this wasn't a team game. Not when the only person who would even consider teaming with her was now out of the running completely.
She stood at the back of the group. Bitting her bottom lip as Midnight stepped back up to her platform. Sashaying in her usual manner as she stood over the waiting students.
Nova held her breath. Waiting for the next challenge.

She probably jinxed it.
Thinking over and over 'please don't be a team game'
The calvary battle was exactly that. A team of two to five people, sitting on top of each other and running around trying to steal headbands. Using their quirks in harmony.
The points on the headbands depended on what you placed in the previous game. The winners got the highest, the lower you placed last round the lower your points. Your headband was worth as much as your team's points are together.
Nova bit her lip. She had five hundred points. Which was on the higher side considering her placement earlier. It wasn't too bad though and it wasn't too much either...Not like Midoriya, who had ten million.
At the end of the battle whatever four teams had the most points won. You could steal headbands from other teams but you couldn't intentionally knock them down. Having to use your quirks strategically both defensively and offensively.
Nova's heart thundered in her chest as she looked around. Everyone was avoiding her. They wouldn't even look at her.
She had scored high last round, but didn't have a huge amount of points. She had a good quirk and was strong enough to carry someone else if needed.
But her name was giving her a massive disadvantage. No one wanted to be on the same team as a Kurayami. She knew no one trusted her enough. So she took a breath and saught out the one person who would be desperate enough to take her.
"H-hey Midoriya..."
