34: 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝚙𝚒𝚝
Ice crawled up Nova's legs. Covering her up to her waist.
The same moment Bakugou sped by. "EAT MY DUST VILLAIN!!!" He yelled at her. He was gone in seconds.
Nova's face flushed in embarrassment as her classmates passed her one by one. The high she had been riding previously was practically gone. She used the pole she took from Momo and formed it into something sharper. Digging her body out of the ice.
Thank God it was a hot day, the ice didn't last long. But by the time she got out her legs were numb and her body was shivering from the cold. Her pants were also a little damp underneath her knees.
A unforeseen perk however, was the fact that her normally aching leg had been soothed by the cool ice. It no longer hurt much. At least for the moment.
She started running around. At very least Shoto no longer left a path of ice in his wake. Nova ran over the dusty ground. Her pants collecting dirt as she did. She was now in the middle of the pack.
Suddenly she saw All of the students stopping ahead of her. Crowding around something, the next obstacle she assumed. She ran up and stopped beside a few of her classmates.
A huge deep chasm spread out before them. It was wide and had platforms of rock spread throughout, connected by metal tightrope wires. It looked deep, Nova had no idea what could possibly be at the bottom.
These games seemed insanely dangerous. What if someone fell in?
"AHAHHAHAA!!! WATCH ME AND MY BABIES STEAL THE SHOW!!"
Someone fell in. A pink haired girl covered in machinery jumped in with her arms spread out. Only to fly with wires connected to it.
Nova watched for a moment or two. The looked at one of the tightropes. Twisted wires spreading throughout the canyon.
Oh yeah, she could do that too.
Nova left behind her platform and pole. Grabbing the wire and cutting it off from her side of the canyon. Her heart thundered in her chest.
Right... It was just heights, no big deal. Just a loooong way to fall... She bit her lip nervously.
"This is it... I can't let my brother see me look foolish!"
Nova heard Iida say under his breath. Before stepping on a nearby wire and using his quirk to push himself across while balancing.
Nova looked at her own wire.
Right... Zoey was probably watching. Nova didn't want her little sister to see her get scared over a little obstacle course. Of course not! Nova was like her hero, Zoey thought she was awesome.
"Alright... For you Zoey..." Nova whispered, taking a breath before jumping into the chasm, wire in hand.

"BOY DOES HE LOOK FOOLISH!!" Mic laughed and Aizawa sighed.
"Todoroki is still in the lead and has already cleared the minefield! Bakugou is HOT on his tail and several other students are already halfway through this devastatingly deep obstacle!" Mic commentated. "Nova Kurayami who fell behind earlier is quickly making her way across the canyon along with Mei Hatsume from the support course!! Just look at those gadgets and doodads!!"
They watched from the screens as the crowds cheered for whoever they had decided they wanted to win.
The students climbed around and thankfully no one fell in. At least, not yet.
"Holy shit! Down goes Shinsou Hitoshi from class 1-D! Don't worry folks, underneath we have a proven cushioning system that'll catch any fallers without injury! Tested by myself and Midnight just this morning!" Mic said.
They watched as the purple haired boy who was being carried by a... Weirdly spaced out flying student. Only for the flyer to suddenly snap out of his daze and accidentally drop him.
"WAIT WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT!!" Mic said suddenly, standing up with his hands on his head. "NOVA KURAYAMI HAS DOUBLED BACK AND CAUGHT HITOSHI SHINSOU!!! Meaning if she can get him and herself back up they're BOTH still in the running!"

Nova was passing through the obstacle quickly when out of the corner of her eye she saw the blurry form of a person drop quickly into the chasm.
Her eyes widened and she braces herself on the wall of the rock over her. Holding onto the rope to keep herself steady and keeping her feet solid on the cliff side. She had two wires. One tightrope She had torn in half, so she could swing with one after another.
She waited for the student to use their quirks to somehow fly back up, like the pink haired girl did.
But when she didn't see any movement from down there she jumped. Her heart pounding as she swung half her wire to the side. Connecting it to one of the other tightropes. It latched in and welded together. When Nova swung she reached out her hand, shooting out her second wire. It wrapped around his waist and he let out a shocked yelp.
Nova grunted. They stopped falling and for a moment everything felt still. Nova was suspended between the two wires, with no momentum. Her shoulders and core muscles burned, she felt like she was on fire. Being torn apart. But the pain wasn't exactly unbearable, just straining. Like lifting weights a little too heavy for you.
She looked down at the other student. A boy with wide eyes staring up at her in shock and confusion, he gripped the wire like his life depended on it. Panting heavily, likely feeling twice as much adrenaline as Nova did.
She took a breath. Trying to calm herself as she weighed her options.
Up or down.
She could risk giving up and dropping, trusting her teachers wouldn't actually put them in a life or death situation.
Or she could try to get them back up.
She took another breath. "Hold on!" She called down. This seemed to freak the big out even more, grabbing on with both hands as she started to swing. Building up momentum. She swung her body and concentrated on the wire, spinning herself and with much strain turned and used the built up momentum and her quirk and her own strength to throw him upwards towards the cliff side.

"HOLY GUACAMOLE!!!" Mic screamed. "Let me take your attention away from the two battling upfront to show you this instant reply of our two dangling students!"
Half the screens showed the two students hanging from wires as the girl spun and twisted her body and threw the boy beneath her up onto the ledge. Where he scrambled to gain his footing.
"WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT?! Not only did she use her quirk but you can tell that move took a massive amount of upper body strength!!!" Mic screamed in shock.
Aizawa eyed the man with a hidden frown. It hadn't taken him long to realize just what Mic was doing.
It might seem like ordinary commentary to anyone else. But Aizawa knew his coworker and friend... This was... Strategic.
Aizawa had first noticed it when mic commented about Nova taking down the robots. Whenever he mentioned her... He used her first and last name. Calling her Nova before calling her Kurayami. Now this, putting her in the spotlight when she was saving someone.
Mic... Was trying to make Nova look good.
And he was doing a pretty good job of it so far. Aizawa wasn't sure the man had ever actually interacted much with Nova, not nearly as much as he himself had... But he still seemed concerned for her sometimes. Aizawa had talked about her every once and awhile, when discussing his students and classes. Especially after the USJ attack when she saved him.
Just like she was saving this Shinsou kid.
She sure was an impressive kid.
