82: 𝑅𝑢𝑛
"I can't just walk out." Rei shook her head.
"Sure you can." Kira said in response. She wasn't positive about this plan. She'd try to just take her out easily first. Flash her hero license if someone tried to stop her. But if things started to escalate.
She was prepared to run.
Rei Todoroki was a key witness in an ongoing investigation and Kira had plenty of reason to believe she was in danger. Sure she would get in huge trouble for doing this...
If she was on her own.
But she had an overgrown chicken outside who happened to be the guilt ridden number two hero. She was sure that if she told him everything that was going on he'd lie about giving her orders. In return of course he'd get full credit. Which Kira was okay with.
"Just follow me. We might have to run though." Kira warned.
"Enji is going to be so angry with me..."
"Don't worry about him anymore. After we get you out I'm getting you a divorce." Kira said, opening the door and glancing back at her.
"A what?" Rei's eyes widened. "That's impossible... I have no money to my name-"
"I'll handle all of that." Kira said, she took her hands in both of her own. "Please Mrs Rei. You have to come with me, you could be in serious danger. Besides... You being safe will help Shoto."
"It will?" She asked nervously, but she was about to agree.
"Positive. Trust me." Kira said with a smile.
Rei looked at her, then at the door. "Alright..."
"Let's go."
Kira lead her out the door and down a hall. Keeping to the less used areas as they snuck around. Kira would go first and Rei followed nervously. Unfortunately they were on the third floor. So they couldn't just sneak out a window or walk out a backed exit. They had to go down the stairs or the elevator.
"Mrs Todoroki. What are you doing out here?"
Kira stopped and turned. A male nurse looked up, he was pushing a cart with some folded blankets and such in it. His mouth covered with a mask. "She should be in her room... And who's the kid? Maybe I'm just on edge after her son was put away..."
"We're on a walk. The nurse names Lucy said it was okay." Kira lied, she stepped somewhat infront of Mrs Todoroki.
"Are you sure?" The man asked, narrowing his eyes at Kira. "... She's from UA isn't she... This isn't good. I can't let her leave this building."
"Yes sir." Kira stated, eyes dark.
They stared at each other for awhile. Then man studies every inch of both of them. In a way Kira didn't think was normal for a simple nurse.
He reached into the bottom of the cart slowly. "I think you should go back to your room-"
"RUN!!!" Kira screamed. Shoving Mrs Rei down the hall. The woman complied as she saw the man pull out a small pistol that had been hidden.
Kira kicked the cart and it hit his gut, distracting him enough for the two women to dart around the corner.
"WAS TAHT A GUN?!" Rei thought in panic, turning her head to look.
"Just keep going! To the stairs!" Kira said, Rei pushed open the door to the stairs and Kira ran in behind her. Turning to see if she could find a way to lock it.
The glass from the thin window shattered as a bullet came through, the nurse turned assassin was still hot on their trail.
Kira jammed the door as best as she could and then grabbed Reis hand and ran again.
"We need to get out now!!" She said, gritting her teeth looking through every door.
Bang
A bullet grazed Kira's ear. Her eyes widened and she shoved Rei's head down.
It had almost hit her head. She felt a small sting on her ear but it was nothing compared to her adrenaline rush. "Keep going!" Kira pushed Rei. The man was just up a single flight of stairs.
Rei stopped in fear but Kira shoved her again. Then she jumped up three stairs towards the man, grabbing the gun and holding it up. Bang. It hit a light, sparks fell down and Rei screamed.
"FUCKING BRAT!!!" The man yelled, kicking At Kira's face. Kira held his wrist and pulled hard, causing him to fall forward down the staircase.
He hit step after step, his head bashing against the railing. He was alive but pretty damn messed up. The gun fell from his hands and Kira picked it up without much hesitation.
"LET'S GO!!" Kira told Rei was had stopped to watch in fear.
"Oh dear." She muttered as Kira ran down the steps, gun in hand.
"Damn it... Damn kid... Guess it's time to signal... These idiots better be ready."
Kira's eyes widened, but there was nothing to do as the man pressed a button that was hooked to a chain around his neck. Sending out some sort of signal.
Kira hadn't quite realized how much of an operation they had in this hospital. Keeping Rei in their control must've been a top priority, it makes sense considering how useful Shoto had been.
But that signal means there are other people tasked with guarding her. Which meant trouble for Kira and Rei.
They ran and Kira kicked out a window once they reached the bottom floor. "Going through the front is too dangerous-"
An alarm started to go off. Either because of the broken window of because of the fight in general. Kira didn't know or care.
Mrs Rei crawled out first. Kira standing guard with the gun. It was small, small enough to fit in a pocket, probably so it was easy too conceal. Kira hadn't touched a gun since she shot momma...
Since she killed momma.
The woman had been right... Even after all that... As Kira held the gun all she felt...
Was power.
