Bang
The villain moved in the rubble, using the last of his strength to aim and shoot at Kira.
Kira screamed as she felt the sudden horrible pain tear through her side. Above her hip, the bullet ripped through her completely and she fell. Rolling into the woods and ducking as he fired three more shots. They hit trees and the ground around her.
A part of her felt like this was some sort of instant Karma for shooting Momma.
Kira's body was pulled down a hill by gravity. Falling and bumping against the ground, fortunately it put a lot of space between her and the trigger happy villain in the rubble.
Unfortunately she was now laying at the bottom of a hill in the middle of the woods with a gunshot wound on her side. She didn't know if it had hit anything major and the bullet had exited. But it sure as hell hurt like a bitch. She groaned and rolled onto her back. Trying to breathe in.
Everything hurt. She didn't want to do this any more. It was starting to seem like it was impossible for her to leave. Getting caught by momma, then Dabi, then getting shot down. Maybe that was the universe telling her to lay down and die. Telling her that this was it, that no matter what she did this place was going to kill her.
She stared up at the trees. Was this it? Really? After everything was she really meant to die here?
What had she done to deserve this? Any of this? Being kidnapped and beaten. Shot at, forced to watch as a the only comfort she had all this time died protecting her.
Why?
Why?! Was it some type of karma? For lying all her life? Was it a punishment for not being a good enough person?
Or maybe it meant nothing. That it was just bad luck, a stream of meaningless coincidences that just lead her here. Laying face up in a ditch. Maybe there was no meaning to anything.
People were just highly evolved animals right? Just cells. Stardust. In reality what was she even doing? Why was she fighting so hard? Was this life even worth fighting for?
There was so much pain. So much death in this world. And it all meant nothing. Zane's death, Momma's death, the death of all the fallen pros and villains out there? Meaningless.
Why be a hero? When the world gets destroyed anyways?
Why be a hero and save people... If one day they were all going to die anyways Everything Kira ever did... Ever faught for...
Simply delayed the inevitable.
She stared up at the sky. The trees swaying. The sunlight trickling through their branches. Falling into Kira. The sun hit her face. Illuminating the bandages and the dirt and the cuts and bruises. She stared at it.
Sunlight...
She hadn't seen that in almost a month. When she found Todoroki in those woods. That had been the last sunset she had seen before being taken.
Sunsets...
Orange painted skys. The yellow sun and the tint of red. Those colors...
Kira loved those colors.
She smiled softly. Seeing the colors in her mind. Orange clothes... Yellow hair... Red eyes. The sunset. They might be her favorite colors in the world.
Maybe... Maybe there was a point to it all.
Sure she was delaying the inevitable. But until the inevitable swallowed her up she wanted to spend every moment... Watching the sunset.
Watching her Sunset.
She got up. Holding onto a tree as she pulled herself to her feet. Her mind clouded with pain. Her eyes tinted by the images of sunsets gathered in her mind.
She had to see her sunset again... At least one more time. At the very least.
She took another step forward. The blood from the gunshot trickled down her body, down her leg and into the earth. Leaves and dirt stuck too it as it dried. She didn't notice.
She just walked.
Walking forward. If Kira was in the right mind she would had tightened the Jacket Zane had given her over the gunshot wound to stop the bleeding. She would have strategically walked between the hills where the path was easiest. She would have kept a vigilant ear out for any approaching villains.
But she did none of those things. She simply... Walked.
She was in a haze. Unable to feel or think anything. She didn't know where she was. What was happening anymore. She could only think of one thing. Her Sunset.
Her feet moved on their own.
That didn't always mean she was charging into combat. It didn't always mean saving someone without thinking.
It meant loving something. It meant having something, and ideal or something more. Someone more. It meant having it so engraved into every part of you. Into every muscle and ligament.
Needing it so much that when necessary.. Your body didn't need your brains permission to seek it out. To find it, to save it, to protect it.
Whether it be your life. A human life or a specific person. Your body valued it so much that it acted without thought.
From a jump infront of a bullet. To a trek through the woods. Battered and broken.
Her feet moved on their own. Step by step. Meter by meter. Mile by mile.
She inched forward bit by bit without having to think about where she was going. About the possible dangers that laid ahead of her. She walked.
The sun inched down and bathed Kira in a golden light. The sunset. She turned and looked at it. Her brown iris turned to a silky gold as she took it all in.
The Sunset.
She wasn't ready to roll over and die just yet. She had to see it again. Not just this one... But her OWN Sunset.
But... This one will do for now.
She stared, a small smile ghosting her face as she watched the sky and trees sparkle in the healing light of the sun.
"Oh God. The battle's ended and there's still no word. The hospital was completely destroyed too. The pro's are combing the woods here but... What if they don't find her?"
Kira's eyes widened as she heard it. Faintly, just up the hill.
"Oh God. Midnight's gone and now... There's no way. She must've made it out! She had too!"
"It's almost dark. I'm going to search the woods. My quirk should make it easier, there's no way these pros will stop me."
"Oh God what if she was crushed in the rubble?!"
"Please be okay... Please..."
"We'll find her... We HAVE too."
"Damn it. I don't care what these 1A losers are going to do. I'm going down there whether the pros like it or not."
A tear trickled down Kira's cheek as she faced the direction of the thoughts creeping into her mind. She walked up the hill. Higher and higher. The sunset on her back, lifting her up like a friend. Pulling her towards her new destination.
"Come on Kira... Please come on..."
The last one was the closest. Both to her and her heart. The boy that had been there for her no matter what.
The friend that had saved her before, possibly multiple times. The boy that was so so kind in so many ways. Who was always worried for everyone while not caring in the slightest for himself.
Kira's friend. One of her best friends was just at the edge of those trees.
She stumbled. Legs finally ready to give in. Finally completing their goal of carrying her to safety. She held onto a tree, her body unable to go any farther.
But her voice... Her voice could still carry. Even if just a little bit.
She could see him. Just barely through the trees, his back to her. She took in a breath.
"Kiri..." She whispered.
She needed more than a whisper damn it. Kira inhaled slowly, bared down and put the rest of her energy into one yell.
"KIRISHIMA!!!"
A/N: Kira's 'Sunset':
Also sorry it's taken so long for her to be rescued. I know it's probably gotten old lol, but here she is now!
