65: 𝑈𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑔

"Huh. I don't understand the way Hawks marked this book." Midoriya mumbled as they all sat in a restaurant.
All Might hadn't looked through it yet. Midoriya seemed to believe that it contained the key to Hawk's speed. Though Bakugou couldn't understand why. It was written before Hawks was even born.
By a villain while he was in jail. Yotsubashi Chikara had killed himself after its release to the public. Which made it even more popular at the time.
"He obviously doesn't know how to take notes right." Midoriya Mumbled again. He stayed buried in the book so his mind couldn't dwell on the fact that he was eating dinner with his two favorite people. All might and Kacchan.
"Let me see." All might said. Taking the book. It was so odd to him. It was a random choice of literature for a pro like Hawks to just be passing out. Even though it was popular again, it didn't make much sense for Hawks to endorse it now of all times.
He looked through the highlighted passages. Midoriya was right. They didn't make much sense. They weren't even highlights of the story. Just utterly random passages.
"Pay special attention to the second part."
He had said. Second part?
All the highlights were either in the first, third or fifth chapters. None in the second. And the second highlighted passage wasn't important in the slightest.
The man stared at the book. Something telling him there was something important here... Something he hadn't noticed yet.
"The"
All might paused as the word stuck out to him. It almost seemed like it had been highlighted twice. Darker than the rest of the first highlighted paragraph.
It was... Hawks had at very least bared down on it harder. All Might was about to brush it off as a accident but noticed the same farther down.
"Enemy"
The second paragraph. The second word on the second paragraph.
"Pay special attention to the second part."
"Is"
Second word of the third paragraph.
"The enemy is"
All the paragraphs on the third page of the first chapter... Lined up.
"Midoriya do you have a pen?" All Might mumbled. Flipping the page.
"Huh? Sure. Why? Did you find something interesting?" The boy perked up. Handing over a pen.
"The"
"Enemy"
"Is..."
"The"
"Liberation"
"Army"
The old pros eyes widened. He marked under each word and then jotted it down on a napkin. A code.
Hawks had left a simple code in the book. Containing a message. He looked like he wanted to say more... Maybe this was it. The words he wished to speak.
"They"
"Number..."
"Over a hundred thousand."
All might pulled out his phone and stood up. Leaving money to pay their bill on the table.
"I figured it out. We have to go now." He told the boys who seemed confused. But stood up anyways.
They got in a cab and All Might continued to look at the words. Building up the message. Bakugou and Midoriya looked over his shoulders as he did so. All Might didn't bother to hide it anymore.
"In"
"Four"
"Months..."
"Action."
Action? The enemy? An army of a hundred thousand? It was a conspiracy All Might had never in his life heard of. And yet he believed it immediately.
He flipped to the final page of the book. Seeing only four words

"Have"
"Your"
"Child"
All Might's heart stopped. He read it again.
"THEY HAVE YOUR CHILD."
He stared at it. If this book truly was highlighted specifically for him it could only mean one thing. "Drive faster." All Might ordered the taxi driver. Who obliged.
Kira.

"This isn't good."
Zane was leaning over Kira. Rewrapping her eye. He had peeked at it again. After Dabi's attack yesterday he'd been rewrapping it constantly.
He wouldn't say it out loud but Kira could feel the difference even with medication. It was swollen significantly more. She listened as he noted the redness and the fluid leaking from the cuts.
They were infected.
They had been healing fine earlier. Zane had disinfected them right after Momma's initial attack. But Dabi had slapped her with his bare hand, reexposing her eye to more bacteria. Zane failed to disinfect it completely before he bandaged it up.
He bit his bottom lip. "I don't know what to do... All medical knowledge I have is from experience or a book or two. I can't even access the Internet... I don't know what to do..."
"How bad is it? Be honest." Kira whispered.
"...bad." Zane said after hesitating. "If... If it gets worse it could spread... To your eye..." He muttered.
"And I could lose it..." Kira guessed.
"At very least your sight." Zane answered. "Unless I can stop the infection...."
"Which I can't." He thought in frustration. "Damn it... She was healing fine and then that sadist came in here and ruined it all... That bastard..."
"So you can't do anything?" Kira asked.
"I can keep it clean... And keep it covered... But I don't have any antibiotics..." Zane answered as he finished wrapping it. "I could talk to mom... Tell her it's endangering her life... Or find one of the medics... But Kira is a top secret prisoner. The League would be pissed if I got the wrong person involved... Might stop me from helping her at all."
"What you need is an actual doctor." Zane said finally. Holding his head in his hands. "But I don't think I can get you one without making everything worse for the both of us."
"... I'll be fine..." Kira whispered. Patting his knee. "You're doing the best you can. You don't have to help me at all."
He looked at her. "...yes I do." Zane whispered. "It's impossible for me not too... I just feel so... Pulled to her. To helping her... I couldn't keep myself away if I tried-"
"Sorry that's stupid..." He whispered. Face red knowing she could hear me.
Kira closed her eyes and just hummed slightly. Everything felt heavy. She yawned, her sore cheek screamed in complaint. She could barely move her face without the stuff skin around her wounds being effected.
Zane was right... This was getting bad.
