Vihaan ~
After all the rituals, Radhika had dragged her sister back to their room once again, leaving me alone after trying to pull my leg that I was not going to get the company of my wife tonight.
It did turn out to be a long night.
The next day when Shivanya stepped out of her room while I was stepping out of mine for the checkout, I could not keep my eyes off her.
I stepped out of my room, ready to go for the checkout, when I saw her. Shivanya was standing in the hallway, just stepping out of her room.
I stood there for a moment, just watching her. Her hair was still soft from sleep, falling over her shoulders in gentle waves.
She looked beautiful in that red suit, but more than that, my attention was on her maang filled with vermillion of my name. That mangalsutra hanging around her neck telling me that she was my wife now.
And the sound of her bangles as she moved continued to tell me that she was mine and I was hers.
She didn't notice me at first, lost in her own thoughts as she stepped forward.
But when she did glance up and meet my gaze, her eyes widened slightly, and I could see the faintest blush spreading across her cheeks.
I was caught off guard by how she made something as simple as stepping out of her room look so beautiful.
I shook my head, forcing myself to focus.
"Ready to go?" I asked, trying to sound normal, trying to ignore my heart which was beating so fast, looking at her.
She nodded, still looking a little shy, but I could see the hint of a smile playing on her lips too. I took a step forward, still unable to completely pull my eyes away from her.
"Vihaan beta, teri hi biwi hai, baad mein dekhte rehna usko, filhaal jaane ka time ho raha hai." Dad said, slapping his hand over my shoulder and Yash joined him too, walking next to Shivanya.
(TRANSLATION - Vihaan beta, she is your wife, you can look at her as much as you want later. Right now, it's time for us to leave.)
"Waise bhabhi, aap toh kaafi khoobsurat lag rahi hain, Vihaan ko paagal karne ka irada hai kya?" He asked her and her eyes widened in response before she blushed.
(TRANSLATION - By the way, Bhabhi, you're looking quite beautiful. Are you planning to drive Vihaan crazy?)
"Yash beta meri beti ko pareshaan karne ki koi zaroorat nahi hai, chalo hato." Dad said and pushed him back to walk with me while he walked with Shivanya now.
(TRANSLATION - Yash beta, there's no need to trouble my daughter, now move aside.)
Looked like everyone was going to get the chance to walk with her except for me.
"Aman uncle yahan kuch zyada hi jalne ki badboo aa rahi hai." Yash said, looking at me before laughing.
(TRANSLATION - Aman uncle, it seems like there's too much of a burning smell here.)
I chose not to dignify that with a response.
Once the checkout process was completed, finally I was allowed to have some time with my wife, thanks to Nisha and Radhika who had made sure that Shivanya was going to Dehradun for the flight with me in the car.
As we got in the car, she sat down beside me, and I could not help but glance at her.
"Aap theek hain Shivanya?" I asked.
(TRANSLATION - Are you fine Shivanya?)
Her eyes travelled to me and she nodded, giving me a soft smile.. "Haan, bas thoda thak gayi hoon but I'll be fine."
(TRANSLATION - Yes, just a little tired but I'll be fine.)
"Aap jaanti hain ki aap aaj kitni khoobsurat lag rahi hain?" I could not resist asking, only to see her flustering once again.
(TRANSLATION - Do you even know how beautiful you look today?)
"Vihaan sir, aap please mere saath flirt karna band karenge?" She asked, so cutely that I almost complied.
(TRANSLATION - Vihaan sir, could you please stop flirting with me?)
"Ji woh toh nahi ho sakta, aap maang bhi mujhse kuch aisa rahi hain jo mere bas mein hi nahi hai." I confessed.
(TRANSLATION - I cannot. You are asking for something from me that is beyond my control.)
The way she blushed, the way she reacted to me, it only made me want to tease her more.
I watched her for a while, how she tried to avoid looking at me by staring out of the window.
I couldn't stop looking at her. She was so beautiful, even when she wasn't trying, the way her hair moved slightly with the breeze, the softness of her features, and the way her lips curved when she smiled.
After a while, I saw her eyes fluttering. All the festivities had worn her out.
Soon, her head slowly tipped toward the window. I could tell she was asleep.
The road was not the smoothest and as the car hit a speed bump, I immediately moved closer to her, without thinking and slowly pulled her toward me, so her head would rest on my shoulder instead of the window.
I wrapped my arm around her shoulder, holding her close enough so she wouldn't slide away, but not so tight to wake her.
The way her hair rested against my chest, the soft rise and fall of her breath, it all made my heart skip.
I adjusted myself so she would be more comfortable. I did not want anything to wake her up. She looked so peaceful, so content, like she was exactly where she was supposed to be.
Right here, with me.
I leaned my head back, closing my eyes for a bit, feeling the most content I had felt in a long time.
After a while, I felt her stir beside me. Her breath shifted, and I felt the weight of her head lift slightly from my shoulder. Her soft voice broke the silence.
"Vihaan, I'm so sorry... I didn't mean to fall asleep on you," she mumbled, her voice still groggy with sleep.
I smiled. I was sure that this was going to be her first reaction.
"Shh, it's okay, Sunshine," I whispered. "You have nothing to apologise for."
Her eyes met mine, filled with embarrassment.
She seemed ready to pull away, but I held her gently, guiding her back to rest against me.
"I did not want you to wake up," I continued, "so I put your head on my shoulder, so you could sleep. This is my job now, to take care of you. Get used to it."
She looked up at me in surprise, and I could see the confusion in her eyes.
"Aap biwi hain ab meri Shivanya." I said, my hand gently smoothing the strands of hair that had fallen over her face. "Ab toh aap khud bhi nahi rok sakti hain mujhe aapka khayaal rakhne se."
(TRANSLATION - You are my wife now, Shivanya. Even you yourself cannot stop me from taking care of you now.)
Her cheeks flushed a soft pink, and I could see a shy smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
"Toh phir toh aap bhi nahi rok sakte mujhe aapka khayal rakhne se. Nahi?" She asked, still looking at me but sat up straight now.
(TRANSLATION - Then even you also can't stop me from taking care of you, can you?)
"Mai aapko kuch bhi karne se kaise rok sakta hoon, Shivanya?" I asked, turning my head towards her.
(TRANSLATION - How can I stop you from doing anything, Shivanya?)
"Good, toh sabse peheli cheez, aap woh back coffee peeni band kar dijiye chaar chaar cup din ke." She said, crossing her arms.
(TRANSLATION - Good, then the first thing you need to do is stop drinking that black coffee, four cups a day.)
I raised a brow at her in fair surprise.
"Aapko kaise pata?" I asked her.
(TRANSLATION - How do you know about that?)
"Aapki PA. Woh hi bata rahi thi break room mein. Bechaari bas coffee hi banati rehti hai aapki." She said sympathetically.
(TRANSLATION - Your PA. She was the one telling me in the break room. The poor thing just keeps making your coffee.)
I could not help but chuckle at that.
"Jaisi aapki marzi, par phir din ki ek cup coffee phir aap mere liye banayengi." I negotiated with her, playfully.
(TRANSLATION - If that's what you want, but then you will have to make that one cup of coffee for me every day.)
"Ji haan. Ek baar mere haath ki coffee aap piyenge toh phir aapko aur koi bhi acchi nahi lagegi." She said, smiling.
(TRANSLATION - Yes, once you taste the coffee made by my hands, no other coffee will ever taste as good to you.)
I couldn't help but smile at her confidence. "I look forward to that, then," I said, my voice soft as I gently squeezed her hand.
She tilted her head slightly, giving me a look that was both playful and shy at the same time. "You should," she teased, her smile brightening even more.
We then sat together in comfortable silence for a while but I kept looking at her time and again, occasionally finding her eyes on me too.
That felt peaceful.

Shivanya ~
Mr. Birdbrain was easy to talk to.
Should I be calling him Mr. Birdbrain now that he is my....my husband?.......Probably Not.
Does he deserve to be called Mr. Birdbrain anymore?......Definitely Not.
Would I still continue calling him that in my head?......YES.
As we sat in the car after talking for a while where I had boasted about coffee making skills, I realised just how little I know about him as a person.
Hell, I did not even have an idea what he liked to do as a hobby!
He was my husband now, and yet, I barely knew what made him happy outside of work.
"Vihaan," I said softly, my voice breaking the silence that had settled between us.
He glanced at me, his eyes soft but curious. "Hmm?"
"Do you... do you have any hobbies?" I asked, my tone a bit unsure. "I mean, I know you're always working, but outside of that, what do you like to do?"
He paused for a moment, like he was thinking about it. His eyes shifted toward the window, and for a second, I thought he might not answer.
But then he spoke, his voice a little lower than usual. "I like quiet places. Reading sometimes. Traveling too, but not the kind of traveling people usually do. I prefer getting lost in places where there's not too much noise."
I was surprised by his answer. It wasn't what I expected, but it made sense in a way.
He was always so composed, so in control, it seemed like the kind of thing he'd enjoy, being somewhere peaceful and disconnected from everything.
"I didn't know that," I muttered.
Mr. Birdbrain smiled, but it wasn't one of his teasing smiles. It was softer, like he was understanding something about me that I didn't even realise. "There's a lot you don't know about me, Sunshine. And there's a lot for me to learn about you too."
True.
I looked at him for a moment, not saying anything. His gaze was fixed on the road ahead, but there was a slight smile on his lips, as if he knew exactly what I was thinking.
"Are you a mountain person or a beach person?" I asked, trying to make mental notes about his preferences.
"I prefer the sea. It gives me perspective." He replied and I nodded.
"I am a mountain person. They usually make my problems seem so insignificant in front of them." I said, without even thinking.
"I know that, Sunshine. I have seen the pictures you have on your work desk of Radhika and yourself, all among the mountains." He replied, turning his head towards me again with a smile.
I blinked at him, surprised that he had noticed the pictures on my desk. I hadn't even realized he had paid that much attention to them. "You've seen them?" I asked, my voice a little softer than I intended.
He nodded, his gaze never leaving mine. "We have worked on your desk, Shivanya." He reminded me.
He was right, of course.
The car slowed as we neared the airport, the large terminal building coming into view.
"Here we are," he said with a small smile.
Before I could even open my door, I saw him step out and walk around to my side of the car. I blinked, slightly surprised by the gesture. He opened the door for me, his gaze soft as he extended his hand toward me.
"Allow me, Sunshine." he said, his voice quiet but steady.
I looked at his hand, then up at his face.
This was the first time anyone had done that for me and it made me feel like a princess from one of those movies.
I hesitated for a moment, staring at his hand and my heart started to beat a little louder.
I finally took his hand and he helped me out of the car.
"Thank you," I said quietly.
Vihaan smiled. "You're welcome, Sunshine."
I smiled back, feeling a little different. There was no teasing this time but there most certainly was something else which did make me feel good.
We were going home.
