Nene POV:

"Ahh... I'm so sorry." I took my glass of water and chugged it down while Kai looked at me, concerned. "I didn't feel well. Something in the smoothie, maybe..." I laughed nervously.

"You feeling better now?" he asked.

"Yup. Fine." I set my glass down. "Sorry about that."

"It's alright." he gestured to a waitress. I assumed he was getting the bill I still wanted to pay for. "You reckon it was something in the smoothie?"

"Maybe. It tasted just a little stranger than usual." I smiled. "But it was still the best smoothie I've ever had. I can pay for it."

"No, no." Kai turned his attention to the pretty waitress. "Your name?"

My heart dropped. He was just on a date with me and now he was asking for the name of another girl?

"Sarah, sir." the waitress replied, looking a little pleased. She had chestnut curls in a high pony topped with a red ribbon. Tall, with such thin legs. Such thin, thin legs. I shot a hateful look at my own chubby shins.

"Good." Kai nodded. Suddenly, his gentle attuide shifted as murder glinted in his eyes and he glared at Sarah. "Now, Sarah, will you please explain why my girlfriend just got food poisoning from this SMOOTHIE from YOUR KITCHEN?"

"S-sorry, sir?" Sarah looked frightened. "Food poisoning?"

"YES, FOOD POISONING." Kai gestured wildly at my ruined dress. "My girlfriend, who drank your Strawberry-Banana smoothie, had to rush to the bathroom and puke after drinking that thing. EXPLAIN THIS, PLEASE. Was there vodka in there or something?"

I blinked at him. Vodka? But oh, it was so sweet how he was angry for me. Even if I did feel bad for long-legged Sarah.

"I'm very sorry, sir." Sarah's babydoll eyes were wide with disbelief. "Please don't file a complaint. I'll speak to the kitchen staff immediantly. I can assure you our drinks don't include anything not in the listed ingredients list, but if you like I can-"

"THAT'S RUBBISH." Kai shouted. I winced as Sarah took a few steps back. "I am filing a complaint immediantly." He took out his mobile phone, swore as he jabbed keys into his password phone, opened Safari and searched up the cafe, then clicked on the reviews. He frantically typed a lengthy, likely horrible review about the cafe.

"We are extremley sorry, sir," Sarah said hurriedly, "This won't happen again. If you'll just let me speak to the kitchen staff or get the manager-"

"I'M NOT GONNA STICK AROUND TO GET MORE FOOD POISONING." Kai stood up and pulled me up too. "Let's go, Nene-chan."

"W-what about the bill?" I asked frantically, but Kai was already pulling me towards the door in a huff. The other customers were staring.

I dug a ten dollar bill out of my pocket and desperately threw it at Sarah. She caught it as it fluttered in the air and stared at me, confused. I looked at her imploringly. I'll be back to pay his half. She nodded.

As soon as we were a good block away from the cafe, I pulled myself free. "What was that about?" I demanded.

"It's okay, Nene." Kai said soothingly. "That stupid cafe probably put something dangerous in your smoothie. I'll sue them later."

"No, no... but it wasn't Sarah's fault." I frowned. "You scared her."

Kai didn't reply.

At home

"How did your day go, sweeties?" Mom asked as we sat around the dinner table, eating udon. I hated it when she said 'sweeties'. It used to be just 'sweetie', not plural.

"Mine was great." Kira piped up when I didn't say anything. "I made lots of new friends at school."

"That sounds amazing, dear," Mom beamed. "You should invite them over sometime."

"I know." Kira brightened. "What if they came over for a sleepover this Friday?"

"Friday? I don't know about that." Mom squirmed. I could see how much she wanted to say yes. "I was thinking about enrolling you in a tutoring class on Saturday mornings...."

"Tutoring?" Kira frowned. "I'm doing fine in school. Right, Nene?"

I shrugged. I was about to say something about averageness but then I remembered the dress she had lent me and how I still needed to break it to her how messed up I got it. As soon as I had gone home I had quickly showered and hidden it in my closet. "Yep. You're better at math than me."

"It's not because you're behind, darling." Mom said quickly. "It's just something to put you ahead of the others. It might be fun."

"I don't know, Mom." Kira sighed, picking at her noodles. "I already have a lot of homework at school...."

"Of course, if you don't want to, you don't have to," Mom said quickly. "It's just something to think about. Of course your friends can come over on Friday. That would be lovely. I can pop into the supermarket tommorow and buy you some snacks."

"Thanks, Mom." Kira grinned.

"Oh! Nene, how did your date go?" Mom asked.

"It went... okay." I winced. "He was sweet. I don't know if he'll go out with me, though. I sort of puked in the bathrooms."

'Oh no! Were you sick?" Mom asked worriedly, putting a hand to my forehead. "You're not burning up."

"I'm fine." I said quickly. "It was probably just something in the smoothie I had."

"I see." Mom removed her hand, but still looked at me with a worried look in her eyes. "Well, tell me if it gets worse tonight."

"I already feel normal." I assured her. "It was a one-time thing."

Well, I hope it was.

Later that night, I was lounging in my room reading a manga about a peasant girl who falls in love with a prince when something sounds in Kira's room. It sounded like a loud crash.

I opened the sliding door and peeked in Kira's room. She wasn't there. A container had fell from the top of her wadrobe.

I go over and pick it up for her. Just as I was about to put it back on top of the wadrobe, I noticed a small blue label on it.

'Acetylcholine'

A/N: Well, you might need to search that up. I know Nene will.
