Author POV (ft. Nene):

As sad as goodbyes could go, this one was the worst.

Nene had never thought she would see the day that she had to leave Hanako. After her great adventure of self-discovery and apparitions, she and her friends had finally settled back in at the school, and things were going just how they were supposed to.

Until Nene had to move away.

Her parents had decided to adopt a new sister for Nene, and they wanted to move to where her new sister was. They thought it would be a better enviroment for both Nene and her sister. Nene's parents were concerned about the amount of stress she seemed to be in and her abnormal behaviour- therefore, they had wanted to move.

Nene did her best to protest, but there was no arguing with her parents. The moving truck had already taken everything away- all that was left with Nene and her parents to drive away.

Nene had never felt so heartbroken.

She had finally found the 'one' for her, but now she was about to leave him.

She knew Hanako couldn't go beyond school grounds, as he was a school apparition. She desperately wanted to stay at the school, but her new home was too far away and out of the school zone.

Today was her last day at her treasured academy- the school of apparitions, ghosts and mysteries.

"My last day of bathroom cleaning," Nene muttered, trying to fight back the tears as the approached the girls' bathroom. "I hate it, but I don't want to stop."

She reached for the door and pushed it open with a creak. She half-hoped Hanako wasn't there, because if he was, she knew she would burst into tears.

"SUPRISE!"

Nene lept back, her eyes wide with shock. Then, they started tearing up. Her friends had thrown her a going-away party! She had thought those only existed in TV shows and books.

Kou, Hanako, Mitsuba, Yako, Teru, Aoi, Akane and even Tsuchigomori were crowded in the tiny bathroom. A strawberry cake was placed on the water basins (some magic had turned it into a table) and so were a variety of snacks, including Hanako's favourite donuts, which he were secrety stuffing into his mouth.

"Oh, thank you!" Nene half gasped, half sobbed. She reached out and squeezed a bundle of mokkes tight because right now she just needed to hug someone.

"Candy." A mokke in Nene's arms squeaked and jumped out of her hug to attack the bowl of gummies on the table.

"Sorry, I don't think we thought it through when we suggested candy as a snack," Teru apologised.

"Oh, no. The mokkes deserve a treat." Nene smiled fondly at the little pink rabbits. She would miss them, just like she would miss everythinge else.

"So! Yashiro! What do you think of your going-away party? We had it planned for weeks!" Hanako suddenly appeared behind her shoulder, grinning. But Nene could see the pools of sadness in his eyes.

"It's just lovely." She turned around and hugged him tight. "But I wish it was just a normal party. I don't want to leave."

Hanako softened in her arms. "Now, now. Save the tears for the end of the party. For now, we just need to eat and laugh!" He patted her on the back and then released her.

"You're right," Nene smiled through the moisture in her eyes. "I shouldn't spoil this. Let's eat! That cake looks delicious."

As Aoi cut the cake up and handed out slices, Nene turned to Kou. "Did you bake all of this?"

"Yes, but I had some help from everyone as well," Kou grinned. "Originally we also had crepes but Teru-nii ruined them."

"Hey, it wasn't my fault," Teru raised an eyebrow. "The salt and sugar jars weren't labelled clearly enough."

"Right," Kou rolled his eyes. "Because you totally need glasses." He jabbed his brother playfully with his elbow and Teru jabbed back.

Nene laughed and took her slice of cake from Aoi. As the others began chatting and joking, Nene felt safe, cocooned in her nest of lovely friends and magical enviroment.

"This cake really is good," Aoi swooned, taking a bite. "I helped whip the cream. But I think my main job was keeping Minamato-kun away from the cake. He would have surely ruined it, according to Kou, and we couldn't have that for your big day."

"My big day," Nene sighed. "Though this party is one of my dreams, I can't help but feel gloomy at the 'going-away' part of it.

"Though I don't want to lose you," Aoi replied, smiling, "This move might be good for you. You will make new friends, and perhaps that new city will be a better enviroment for you. I know your adventures here might not have been exactly pleasant."

"No. But they were ones I wouldn't want to lose," Nene said sadly.

"This'll be a good chance for you to start over." Aoi said wistfully. "I wish I could forget what happened to me. But you could. A new school, new friends, new home and new sister will help refresh your mind."

"But..." Nene sniffed. "But I don't want a fresh start. I want this. This school and Hanako-kun and Kou and the mokke and Mitsuba and you and the apparitions. I don't mind that it's magical or dangerous or anything."

Aoi hugged her tightly, knocking the breath out of Nene. "I don't want you to leave either," she whispered sadly. "I don't want to lose my best friend."

Nene slowly hugged Aoi back, fighting her tears. Her friends were still eating and laughing and chatting- she didn't want to spoil the fun 'till she absoulutely had to.

"Now, you must try these donuts," Aoi released her, put on a wide smile and lead her to the snacks table. "We heard they were Hanako's favourites, and he begged us to make them, so Kou and I whipped some up!"

Nene leaned forward, inhaling the sweet, buttery smell of the donuts. A sweet, fruity tinge made Nene look down and realise there was a thin layer of pink icing slatherd onto the donuts.

"I made them strawberry-flavoured," Aoi leaned in and whispered into Nene's ear. "Just for you."

Nene's eyes welled up with tears. "Oh, Aoi." She resisted hugging her again and instead stuffed a donut into her mouth to stop herself from crying.

"I'll miss you so much." She wailed, and before she knew it, everyone was crowding around her and crying. Even Mitsuba was wiping a tear away from the corner of his eye.

"It'll be okay, Yashiro." Hanako hugged Nene tight, but there was a tremble in his overly-happy voice. "It'll all be okay. You'll visit me, right?"

"Whenever I can." Nene sniffed. "I wish you could go with me."

Hanako leaned back from the hug and wiped the tears off Nene's wet cheek. "I wish I could, too."

And as Nene looked into his mesmerizing amber eyes, she knew it would be the last she saw of them.

A/N: Bye-bye Nene. Everyone'll miss you...

Except the readers, who'll be following you on your journey :D
