12. | your affection
He used to enjoy being beneath the sun. Its warmth enveloped him in a sweet embrace, and golden rays of sunlight helped ignite the fire within him on the battlefield. But now—ever since he transformed into a demon, he found a profound connection with the moon. His once sun-kissed skin now bore the ethereal pallor of the moonlight.
Somehow, with the sun nowhere in sight, everything felt alright. Looking at the moon has become a source of solace for [Y/n] in his journey. A part inside of him, the part that embraced the sun in return, was slowly but surely withering away. It's dying like a song with no one left to sing it.
Akira guffawed beside him, a thin expression on his face. He groaned, "I know I said I gave you guys one night, but it's really fine if you stay another day or two. My wife doesn't seem to mind."
"It's fine, really. We have somewhere to go. We wouldn't want to impose on your generous hospitality, Akira," [Y/n] rejected with a carefree smile on his face.
The sun had just set, and so [Y/n] and Muzan immediately got ready to leave Akira's house. They had somewhere to be after all, as they had discussed prior. A village north where the physician had stayed, a place he supposedly visited before having the idea to make the antidote.
Maybe it's a dead end, or maybe it's a new path. At the least, it's worth investigating. Clues of the blue spider lily were scarce, and [Y/n] could feel how desperation was growing inside Muzan.
"Are you sure? I know you and your friend inside are running from some pesky people, but going at night's quite dangerous."
Y/n] couldn't help but laugh, "Why so? Running into me is much more dangerous for whoever you're speaking of."
Akira huffed, "Bandits have been roaming around crazy these days. Don't come running to me when you two get robbed of everything."
"I'm sure I can take care of myself," [Y/n] said with a smirk. "Besides, I'm not alone. And we both have something that they don't have." With that, [Y/n] turned around and walked back inside the house, calling out to Muzan.
"You got everything ready?"
"Yes. We can leave now," Muzan answered, having finished putting his items back inside his bag.
"Well, thanks for everything, Akira. Best wishes to you and your family."
He laughed while waving an arm goodbye. "You guys are so fucking weird, you know that?" he said. "Not eating any food in the day. Roaming around at night."
Muzan's eyes narrowed to slits, but Akira still smiled. He said, "Well, it's none of my business how you live your life. Just don't bring any trouble back here, yeah?" He turned away and closed the door, leaving [Y/n] and Muzan to stare at each other in silence. They held a secret between them, and it burned like fire.
[Y/n] faced south and began walking, prompting Muzan to follow alongside him. Muzan cut the silence, "We get my ingredients first, and then we go to this Yasuyori Village you speak of."
He chuckled at Muzan's demanding tone. "Hehe, you're not as thorough as you thought huh?"
Muzan sneered, "Oh please, as if I would know Yasuyori was in fact the name the locals use for their own village. It makes much more sense if it was one of the ingredients I needed to procure in the capital."
"Now, now. No need to be upset, Muzan. Besides, I only remembered because of my talk with Akira. He was once stationed there for a while after all."
Muzan laughed. It was a cold and hard sound, like ice shattering.
[Y/n] paid it no mind, used to Muzan's dry demeanor. "Should I thank him instead then?" Muzan asked, voice filled with bitterness.
He sighed. "What's been up with you? You're so—"
"—so what?"
Slowly, [Y/n] shook his head. "Never mind, let's just go. Alright?"
Yasuyori Village was located on the northern side of the capital, hidden inside the murky shadows of the forest. Akira had complained about how humid the air felt, how the residents unnerved him, and how putrid the water tasted. He hadn't been back there for years, perhaps it had changed for the better. Or perhaps for the worse.
After Muzan finished buying the items he needed with [Y/n] in tow, the two began their journey to the village.
They ventured into the heart of the dense woods. The air was thick with the earthy scent of pine, and the rustling of leaves underfoot echoed through the stillness. The trees formed a canopy above, their branches interwoven like they were holding hands.
Muzan's bag was slung over his shoulder, full to the brim with his earlier shopping session. [Y/n] could hear the constant clicking of glass inside it, the rocky and uneven road doing no favors to silence their journey.
The route appeared to have long been forsaken by travelers for it shows signs of neglect. But [Y/n], with his heightened senses, could discern faint footsteps before them, quite a few of them actually.
He could also feel the intense stare behind him, coming from Muzan. The demon has been silent when they pressed forward into the forest, eyes glinting with an emotion [Y/n] can't place.
It's fine. Even if Muzan stayed silent, his presence was still comforting enough for him.
"You had more friends than I thought," cut in Muzan, the silence in the woods now broken apart. "Huh?" [Y/n] looked back toward Muzan, and slowed his pace so they could walk side by side.
"Oh? Was it a shock for you that I have friends?"
"Yes. You have a foul mouth, and no manners whatsoever," Muzan replied, a hint of amusement in his voice.
This guy. He should probably look at his reflection.
He's actually describing himself.
[Y/n] huffed out an answer, "Contractually to most of my family's belief, people do find me quite charming. I might say, that some like me as much as they fear me."
"Is that so? A good thing then, that I do not fear you."
[Y/n] smiled. "Am I not scary enough for you?"
"Of course not. I find that you're actually..." Muzan stepped closer, red eyes glistening at him. His words seemed to fall short, so [Y/n] leaned in. "Actually what?"
Red eyes seemed to peer deeper into [h/c] hues, both searching for answers never spoken. [Y/n]'s heart lurched, recognizing the emotion he could finally place from Muzan.
For a moment, neither of them move, neither of them speak. [Y/n] felt color rushing up to his cheeks and hoped it was too dark for Muzan to see.
Does he...?
For a second, [Y/n] thought he would lean further towards him. But suddenly, Muzan turned away instead, as if he had finally snapped out of whatever faraway, dreamscape he was lost in.
[Y/n] followed as well, head turning to the same direction the dark-haired man chose to focus on.
Their eyes darted toward the west side of their location. A small torch could be seen, light coming from a small torch carried by one of the men.
[Y/n] eyes widened. He can't believe he didn't notice the men slowly approaching them. It seemed he had been far too absorbed than he would like to think.
"Those people are..." Muzan trailed off as they came into view. The two demons didn't move away, especially when Muzan stood his ground. Why must he flee, when food is coming right through their door?
A total of five men stood opposite them. With or without his heightened demonic senses, he knew, that these men were carrying weapons. He couldn't help but feel annoyed when they opened their mouths.
"Oh? Look what we have boys. Some nice-looking people here, yeah?" Victim number one sneered, eyeing the clothing [Y/n] and Muzan wore.
"Hehe, their clothes sure do look nice, boss." Victim number two continued, ogling the bag Muzan carried, "Whatcha got there, huh? Something expensive I bet."
Great. Bandits.
[Y/n] didn't say anything as he watched the bandits slowly pull out their weapons. He sighed audibly at their stupidity. How very unlucky for them, to choose two demons to be their victim.
Victim number three approached Muzan, a knife in his hand. "Hey, hand that over. We don't anyone here getting hurt." As he said that, he gestured for Muzan to look at his companion.
Victim number two had pointed a dagger at [Y/n]'s neck, pressing it close, but not enough to bleed. The [h/c] haired man silently laughed as he raised his hand in surrender. Truly a comical situation they were in.
"Foolish. All of you," Muzan said, voice tinged with exasperated anger. Perhaps, he was angry that their little moment earlier got interrupted? [Y/n] certainly felt so, just a little.
Victim one angrily huffed, "What was that, you weak-looking punk?" He stepped closer, as if to intimidate Muzan. Of course, that didn't work.
Before the man could even blink, Muzan had already used his strength to blow his head, Muzan's hand passing grotesquely through it. The body fell sluggishly, for it can never control its movement ever again.
"Boss!" The man behind [Y/n] cried out. Taking it as his cue, [Y/n] escaped the man's hold, not caring the slightest as the knife grazed his neck. The floor bled red as [Y/n] quickly unsheathed his katana, and swiftly sliced the man's neck.
[Y/n] licked his lips as blood sprayed from the wound he inflicted.
Screams followed soon after, the rest of their victims running in the opposite direction, fleeing for their lives. He could hear their hears thundering inside their bodies.
[Y/n] moved and chose to deal with the furthest one first, leaving two humans for Muzan to feast on.
The [h/c] haired man kicked his feet beneath the ground, and used the momentum to catch up with the running man. The man yelped as [Y/n] pushed him from behind, sending the man careening forward.
"Please! We're sorry, but please! Have mercy..." The man begged for his life, but [Y/n] was unmoved. In a single swift motion, [Y/n] grabbed the man by the collar and sank his teeth into his neck.
Sweet crimson dripped down [Y/n]'s chin as he ripped a large chuck of meat from the man whose body slowly stopped trashing in his arms. He could hear a crunch when his fangs dug deeper, continuing to devour and chase after the exquisite taste. Blood that tasted so right. So fulfilling.
When he finally finished eating, [Y/n] surveyed his surroundings. Up ahead hidden by trees, was a small shed filled to the brim with supplies. Probably stolen supplies. He squinted, trying to make out the situation in the darkness with his demonic senses, and couldn't sense any humans inside of it. Wonderful. It's a perfect place for him and Muzan to stay and hide when the sun eventually invades the skies.
[Y/n] heard footsteps behind him. He quickly turned around, ready to act. But it was only Muzan, who had followed him after he had finished off the two other men. With the blood dripping down his chin, it seemed he had eaten his fill as well.
"Red suits you well," [Y/n] said. He finds himself unable to look away from Muzan. [E/c] eyes roved up and down.
The moonlight did nothing but accentuate his features, making Muzan appear much much more—
"It suits you just as well. You look... ethereal, [Y/n]." He smiled softly in acknowledgment, his gaze never leaving [Y/n]. He stepped closer, reaching out with gentle fingers to brush a strand of hair away from [Y/n]'s face. "Beautiful," he whispered.
He leaned in, his lips almost brushing against [Y/n]'s.
[Y/n] could feel the warmth of their breath mingling together.
His heart raced, and he felt his entire body trembling with anticipation.
[Y/n] closed his eyes and leaned in, pressing his lips against Muzan. He felt electricity course through his veins, and for a moment, the world around them seemed to stand still. [Y/n] felt like he was floating on air, as he had finally found a new home.
He could taste the blood mingling between their tongues, a taste they both chased in each other. Muzan's hands were on [Y/n]'s waist, pulling him closer, pulling their bodies closer.
[Y/n] felt himself melting into the kiss, as if they were finally one. None of them wanted this moment to end.
Muzan's lips moved with a smooth rhythm, like a waltz, and [Y/n] felt intoxicated with the sensation. He could feel himself slowly losing control, as if the kiss was an abyss they could both fall into. They both stayed motionless, lost in the moment, until finally, they had to break apart.
As Muzan's hands let go of his waist, [Y/n] quickly intertwined their fingers together. Muzan beamed and gave [Y/n]'s hand a squeeze. "Let's go inside," he said, still breathless. He pulled [Y/n] closer and they walked to the shed, their hands still intertwined.
Muzan opened the door and they both stepped inside. As soon as the door shut behind them, they were enveloped in each other's presence. They were now alone, with no one to disturb their moment.
Red eyes looked around and smiled contentedly. It was just the two of them, and nothing else mattered. They were in their own little world, and it was perfect.
