(Season 3, Episode 3 spoilers at the very bottom for those who haven't watched it yet, stop at the big 🍑 blank space)

"Kamado-chan, this is dangerous...!"

Rui stood idly off to the side with a worried look along with a frantic Zenitsu as the two Kamado siblings worked at tying up Enmu after Yuichiro punched the 💩 out of him.

They couldn't trust him not to start trouble despite their temporary little alliance to deal with Enmu's last demon friend that had merged with the train.

"We could get in serious trouble for this!" Rui protested, "Muzan-sama might actually kill you for this!"

"He isn't here right now, so let's just focus on making sure the passengers don't get killed!" Nezuko snapped before pointing to Yuichiro, "Yuichiro-kun! Please make sure that Enmu-san doesn't cause trouble!"

The demon boy nodded, "Hm!"

Nezuko turned to Rui, Inosuke and Zenitsu, "Rui-kun, please protect the passengers with my brother. Inosuke-san, Zenitsu-san, please come and help me kill the demon!"

Zenitsu swooned, cheeks growing pink as he swayed, "Of course, Nezuko-chan! Anything for—!"

Inosuke smacked him out of the way violently.

"What makes you think I'll listen to some demon slayer, huh?! Why would I help you!" Inosuke demanded, pointing an accusing finger at Nezuko who blinked owlishly as Tanjiro stepped into his path.

"Inosuke, she's a slayer we can trust." Tanjiro began, but Nezuko gave him a tap on his shoulder.

"Don't worry, onii-chan, I can handle this." Nezuko hummed with a little smile before turning her gaze to Inosuke, "I know you might not trust slayers, I honestly don't blame you, but my goal is to protect everyone on this train right now!"

"Oh yeah? Do it yourself! I'd never help a slayer!" the boar headed demon turned away, crossing his arms with a rather childish, "Hmph!"

"Oh, but, I don't think I can do it alone." Nezuko admitted, "Rui-kun and I were released from Aizetsu-san's care before he decided to let us go, so I'm not my best. Please, just this once..."

Nezuko bowed.
"Help me protect everyone here!"

Silence.

All of a sudden, Inosuke pumped his fists in the air with a loud, "DAMN IT, FINE! LET'S GO, SEIICHIKO!!! LET'S KILL THAT DEMON!"

"It's Nezuko, but alright." the girl hummed before gesturing to Zenitsu, "Let's get going, Zenitsu-san!"

As Inosuke ran off, Nezuko and Zenitsu hurrying after him, Rui was left alone with Tanjiro, Yuichiro and the tied up Enmu.

Tanjiro glanced at Rui, and smiled.
"If you don't mind, could you help me protect the passengers until Nezuko, Inosuke, and Zenitsu kill the demon causing all this?"

"I... uh..." Rui looked back and forth between Yuichiro and Tanjiro with wary eyes before nodding with a, "S-Sure, okay. I can do that."

Tanjiro beamed, "Thank you, Rui-kun!"

'Huh.' Rui squinted, 'The same smile.'

"Let's go," Tanjiro exclaimed, gesturing to the younger boy, "I can afford to get hurt, so I'll make sure nothing happens to you as we protect the passengers!"

"Oh, okay!"

As the trio headed off for the front, Nezuko glanced at Zenitsu and gave him a smile, "Let's do our best to protect all the passengers, alright Zenitsu-san?"

The yellow haired demon stared at Nezuko for a long moment before his entire face turned red, "Right! Anything for you, Nezuko-chan!"

"I like your enthusiasm!" she chimed before looking ahead, her expression becoming serious at the sight of flesh beginning to grow and cover the walls, and roof of the train, "You go this way, and I'll head that way!"

Fleshy tendrils appeared along with many eyes that watched them carefully, hungrily even. Eugh...

'We'll do our best to protect everyone here, y/n, so please. Make sure you stay safe out there!'

Water Breathing, Third Form

Nezuko drew in a breath as she could feel energy filling her, poised to strike as she prepared to push off.

Flowing Dance

Nezuko's strikes were swift and fluid as she danced through the train cars, striking each of the flesh tendrils emerging from the walls with practiced and precise slashes.

She watched carefully, paying close attention to avoid striking the frantic passengers as she defended them from the oncoming attacks of the demon.

Y/n had already worked so hard to get Rengoku away from the train and its passengers, so Nezuko was going to put some work in as well!

"My, my, I'm impressed! Normal humans would've gone into shock by now, or at least passed out, but you... you're still fighting!"

Burning. It felt like y/n was burning alive as she stared down at the fire red blade which pierced her heart.

It didn't seem real at first. It didn't feel real.
But it hurt like hell. It burned, burned, and burned.

Her grip on her own sword tightened.

Close. She was so close.

Another push and she'd hack this demon's head right off! Just a little push, just a little more, and-!

The moment y/n applied more force to her blade, the demon twisted his blade in her chest and sent pain flashing through every inch of the slayer's body in an instant.

She let out a choked gasp, her grip on her sword nearly slipping, but she held on. Y/n couldn't see. Her eyes hadn't been damaged, it was the pain alone.

All she could see was red as pain gripped her body in its red hot grip, refusing to let go as she fought to remain conscious.

"Amazing..." the demon breathed, "Your sheer determination is incredible! Tell me, what is it that drives you?"

Rage.

It was rage.

Rage was what led her to become a Demon Slayer.

Rage had kept her body functioning at its best even when she felt tired during her training as she learned to fight with a sword.

Rage got her through the Final Selection.

Rage, resentment, all that 💩.

It was the only thing keeping her going.

Y/n bit her lip, eyes burning with oncoming tears as she shakily lifted a hand. She grabbed onto the sword piercing her chest, grip tightening as she attempted to tear it out.

Her hands slipped and clumsily fumbled for the sword, uncoordinated and slick with her own blood.

Her heartbeat was pounding in her ears as it fought to keep her going, but it was pointless. Y/n knew it was pointless, but she wasn't going to die. She refused to die!

"Y/n, my child."

The h/c haired girl held her mother's hand tightly in her own, e/c eyes filled with tears as the dying woman smiled weakly at her.

"Don't cry, please." she whispered, "Smile for me, just one more time. Could you do that for me?"

Y/n rubbed her eyes before doing her best to smile. It was wobbly, hardly even a smile, but the dying woman looked content nonetheless.

"You have a wonderful smile, y/n. It brings me comfort, even now." the girl's mother sighed, "Please, continue to smile for your brothers."

Ah. Wait a moment.

It wasn't just rage.

The red hot haze cleared enough for y/n to see, though her gaze was blurry. Darkness creeped in at the edges of her vision as she looked past the demon and into the distance where she could still see the light of the train.

'...Yuichiro is still on that train...' she thought.

She still had her little brother to take care of.
She still needed to turn him back into a human.
She still needed to apologize for not being there.

The rage ebbed away, slowly but surely.
The pain began to spread, drowning out her senses and causing fatigue to take hold on her body.

Y/n was angry. So, so, very angry, but that rage could only keep her going for so long. It was a double edged sword, guaranteed to give her great power but slowly chip away at her over time.

But that love she felt for her brother, that desire to protect him until her last breath. That would last an eternity.

The young woman was scared.

She was terrified, even.

Scared of the silence which would follow the moment she let up and succumbed to death, scared of what would happen to her brother if this demon made it out alive, scared of not being able to protect one of the last people she had.

Y/n gritted her teeth, ignoring the horrible burn of the blade digging into her palm and dragging through muscle, skin. It hurt, damn it, it hurt-!

"Oh?" the Kizuki's brows raised as y/n slowly but surely began to tear the blade out of her. The pain was agonizing, he could tell, yet she refused to stop.

E/c eyes met fiery red ones.

Unyielding determination met cruel admiration.

"You truly are an incredible human." the demon breathed before shouting, "Y/n! Become a demon! You and I both know your body can't last much longer in this condition, so abandon your life as a human! Don't let that great flame in your heart flicker out, let it blaze for all of eternity!"

The slayer opened her mouth, and let out a few soft words. They were so quiet, and so weak that the Kizuki had difficulty making them out at first.

He began to ask for the slayer to repeat herself only for his sword to snap. Y/n's own blade sliced its way deeper into his neck, and all vision is his left eye was instantly cut off as the slayer plunged her fist right through the left half of his face.

'Her strength, her tenacity...!' the demon thought as his eyes landed upon the part of the blade still plunged through the young woman's body. The flesh blade had been broken in two, 'Incredible!'

Y/n's body should've shut down by now.
She'd lost far too much blood, she should've died!

And yet she was still fighting.

'Such strength! Such passion! This slayer is truly a chosen one!' the demon thought in amazement.

"You loud, google eyed, mother🚚er..." y/n rasped, breathing heavily before her burning gaze met the demon's, "I know I'm gonna die here, but I'm sure as hell gonna take you with me!"

The demon's radiant smile didn't waver, but his own fiery red and gold eyes seemed to blaze like a wildfire.

"Excellent, wonderful, amazing-! Very well, Tokito Y/n, let's keep going!" the Kizuki exclaimed, "For as long as that beautiful flame in your heart keeps blazing!"

Her strength wasn't what it should've been but y/n managed to push Rengoku back, putting some space between the two them.

'What will you do now, Tokito?' Rengoku wondered as his sword regenerated, 'You've still got energy left in you, right?'

He gave y/n a moment to breathe as she stood there panting, her e/c eyes half lidded and just barely staying open. Her grip on her sword was slipping, and she could feel the life practically draining from her body.

'If I take another step... I think I might collapse.' she thought before grimacing, tightening her grip to the best of her abilities with the little energy she still had, 'No... I can't, not yet...'

Y/n's legs were at risk of giving out as she stood up right and corrected her stance, "One... more time..."

The purple blade began to turn crimson as y/n gripped it with all her might, her e/c eyes lighting up as she began to breathe again. Her body felt like it was burning, and the pain was next to unbearable, but she remained standing.

'Just one more!'

Moon Breathing, Sixteenth Form

Flame Breathing, Ninth Form

Despite y/n's life slipping away with each passing moment, Rengoku found himself in awe of the slayer before him. That flame of hers was brighter than ever, engulfing everything around her in light that not even the sun could hope to compare to.

Its ethereal glory nearly brought the demon to tears.
He didn't want it to flicker out so soon.
He wanted to witness more of it.
More of her.

Surely now she would become a demon... right?

The demon and the slayer charged towards one another, splitting the very earth beneath them as they clashed one last time.

Moonbow - Half Moon

Rengoku

Y/n's blade tore right through Rengoku's neck, perfectly placed to behead him right there and then, only for her blade to go off course.

Ah. Her arm.

He'd cut off her arm.

It was over, wasn't it?

All at once, the exhaustion hit her and y/n's legs gave out, only for the fiery haired kizuki to catch her and hold her up.

Her heart beat rapidly, struggling to keep her alive despite the impossible odds. It was over. Y/n really was going to die here. She wanted to say something, anything, but she just didn't have the strength for it.

Warmth touched y/n's face, and her eyes moved to the source. The sun was rising in the distance, rays of sunlight beginning to fall upon the demon and the slayer.

"Looks like the sun's coming up." Rengoku hummed, seemingly not at all bothered by the sun's light as it slowly neared, "And your time is running out."

Y/n grimaced, "So will yours if you stay here any longer. Nezuko, Rui and Yuichiro are far away now, so there's no point in chasing after the train."

Rengoku blinked before leaning a little closer to y/n, "Ah, I see it now. You knew you wouldn't be able to win, right? Your goal was to keep me here until the sun rose."

"Bingo." y/n mumbled, that darkness from before beginning to creep back into her vision, "Huh... wonder why I even managed to last this long..."

Keeping her head up took way too much energy...

Y/n's eye lids began to lower and Rengoku lifted her chin carefully so they could maintain eye contact.

"Become a demon."

"I refuse."

The pain was distant as Rengoku's nails dug into her ever so slightly, his frustration becoming evident.

"Come on... don't let your flame die out here. You're unlike any human I've met before, you have an incredible spirit! Are you really going to throw it all away?" Rengoku demanded.

"I'm tired... shut up." y/n mumbled, as his voice became distant... fuzzy, "Persistent bastard..."

Her vision was growing hazy, but she could see the desperation in Rengoku's eyes as he shouted something at her.

She said nothing else, eyes finally closing as she slumped in the demon's grasp, her consciousness beginning to fade.

Difficult to hear. She couldn't hear a thing.

'Is this really it?'

'Am I really gonna die like this?'

'I... don't want to die...'

'I still haven't turned Yuichiro back.'

Dark... it was dark.

Y/n didn't like the dark. She felt alone.
She didn't want to be alone.

'Kaa-san?'

Silence.

'Muichiro?'

No reply.

'Y-Yuichiro, are you there?'

Nothing.

'...Otou-san? Please...'

Not a single sound.

'Don't leave me here alone...'

(I know I literally just killed y'all off but look at how fine Urogi, Karaku, and Aizetsu are 😏)
