Lilah pushed herself up with her arms to sit on the inner rooftop wall that I was leaning against next to her. We enjoyed each other's company in silence with only the sound of her feet restlessly dangling back and forth. I didn't really mind. I was content with it. Silence allowed time, time to wallow and ponder, time for my heart to stop pounding like a jackrabbit's.

"Effy?" She said, breaking the soothing silence.

"Mm?"

"Wala ka bang pangarap?" Tanong niya.I tried to think of an appropriate response but couldn't find one, so I simply shrugged. I didn't even know what I want or if I even wanted anything.

A blue butterfly flew by us. Thank God, it tooks Lilah's attention away from me. She watched in fascination with her dark and sparkling eyes as the delicate creature, no bigger than a palm, flew to the potted flowers nearby.

She asked, her eyes still fixed on the butterfly.

"Humor me." I said.

"May isang batang nakakita ng cocoon ng paru-paro." She started. The butterfly spent his whole short life crawling around."

"So?" My brows shot up in confusion.

"The butterfly needed to struggle out of the cocoon to force the fluid into his wings para makalipad siya."

"So why are you telling me this?"

"Because you remind me of that butterfly, Effy."
