Prologue

Ghost_bin14

M/n Levine learned the shape of the world through his room.

Through walls thick enough to swallow sound, through doors created not for protection but for distance, through windows kept perpetually ajar yet never opened wide enough to invite a visitor.

His childhood did not start in gardens or drawing rooms, but within a single chamber that overlooked the estate grounds

He had been told, gently at first, that it was for the safety of others.

The servants, pale and trembling, could not remain long near his door. Even as a boy, his presence unsettled them. Their heads became light, their breaths quivered, knees went unsteady. Some would excuse themselves with hurried bows; others would simply collapse where they stood.

So the door remained closed.

M/n grew accustomed to the quiet. Silence became his tutor; books, his companions. He read of cities he would never walk. He was able to live on many worlds through books alone.

He memorized the etiquette of a world that did not allow him entry, as though knowledge might one day substitute for experience.

Yet the window...ah, the window was his greatest torment.

From there, he could see the estate go on it's usual trickle. He would lean close, yearning, only to pull away again in fear.

What M/n wanted was never dominance, nor submission, nor the authority his bloodline promised. He wanted only to stand among others without consequence. To step beyond the threshold without the gnawing feeling of his phermones taking affect on everyone.

He did not yet know there was a name for such control. Nor that somewhere beyond his walls stood a man who had built an entire life upon teaching it.

But for now, M/n Levine remained where he had always been. A young Alpha who's next in line. confined not by chains, but by courtesy,
longing for a world he had been born too powerful to touch.
