Chapter 1
"everlasting thing lasted"
May 24th, 2100
It was a beautiful day, the sun shone brightly in the sky and the soft breeze of the spring was blowing gently making the atmosphere really peaceful.
Mai was walking in the pavement, she has just done the shopping for this afternoon cooking. She bought some carrots, beef and potatoes to make curry rice, which is her favorite dish.
Stepping by step, Mai's mind was suddenly filled with flashbacks of the past, she has been living for 81 years up to now and looking back at her life, there would be a lot to talk about. For instance, when she was in her teens, she was not allowed to go to school and was home-schooled by her parents as she was so vulnerable back then so they didn't want anything to harm their beloved daughter.
Mai used to dream about going to high school like any other girls in same age with her, she would love to see herself in the school uniform dress, walking gently under the cherry blossom blooming in the spring sky. However, those were just dreams, frivolous dreams.
Yes, of course she did beg her parents to go to school but after many trials and being bullied there, they could not let her go anymore as they really want to protect her from bad guys. Mai finally gave up her dream of wearing the uniform dress and decided to stay at home, self-learning for good.
On becoming an adult, Mai started working as a clerk at a convenience store next to her house, a long time later she would eventually find out that the shop was opened by her parents and they always supervised her through cameras installed every corner of the shop as they want her to be safe.
One day, as she was working at the shop. A ferocious thief appeared with a view to steal all the money from the store. Mai was in a shock, being speechless and feared that she would be killed under the knife of that thief. Fortunately, a young guy suddenly came in to buy some snacks and he soon realized that there was a criminal playing sinful act in this store. He beated the thief with his amazing Taekwondo martial art and also, won the heart of the lovely and also a little bit, terrified young lady standing in the corner, trembling in fear.
"Hello are you fine, you looked scared". The young guy asked Mai.
Mai was so thankful that she even embraced the guy tightly as she was so scared by the thief.
"...wait, erm, ugh, calm down girl, I think it's a lil bit too tight for me...erm"
The young guy blushed with shyness since this was the first time a strange girl cuddling him like that. Mai's face was filled with astonishment as she realized how strange she behaved.
"Erm, sorry for hugging you too tight, I was so scared... you know.
Ah, may I know your name please ?" Mai asked.
"I'm Ron Charles, you can call me Ron for short, and you ?". Ron replied
"..Mai, Mai Oshima"
"Wow, really, you must be coming from Korea for sure" Ron responded in such silly way.
"Erm, no, I come from Japan..." Mai couldn't help bursting into laughter as she heard what Ron said.
They looked at each other, realizing that destiny had brought them closer. Mai smiled which made Ron's heart beating fast. They later went on date with each other and eventually became a couple, got married with the happiness and blessing from both of their families.
Like in a fairytale, their love story was beautiful, they lived in harmony with no war and argument towards each other. Whenever a problem appeared, they would altogether worked out for a solution as soon as possible.
However, there was a problem, that could never be solved.
Ron had blood cancer.
Mai was in deep grief to see her husband suffering in pain with no clue of eradicating the disease. Soon after, Ron left her life and his world to prepare a new journey in heaven, where he would not feel any pain but there would not be any sweet Mai of his standing by.
On the last day of his life, Ron slowly regained his conciousness and asked the doctors to let him a chance talking to his beloved wife. They talked in tears and regret, one could not leave his love alone in this life and one could not do anything to save her love.
"Mai, today you are beautiful than any other days, I just want to let you know that, no matter what happens, I will always beside you, standing by you, love you a lot..." Ron talked in pain.
Mai bursted into tears, she could not speak anything as the tears prevented her from doing so.
"I am so terrible right, leaving you so early, I even thought we could spend this whole life together, I'm so bad, really really bad...I want to apologize...I owe you this life and I hope that in another life, you could still be the love of my life and we could rewrite the story together" Ron continued speaking.
"But darling, I just want you to stay with me, right now and never leave me at all cost, I feel so small and useless when I could not help save you from death, I am so useless..." Mai spoke with tears falling in her face.
Ron smiled, a painful smile but was abundant of affection for his love, he used his finger drew a circle in reverse in Mai palm.
"You see, a circle can be draw in reverse, those people who truly love each other will eventually reunite no matter how unfair this life treats them." Ron said.
Mai also drew a reversed circle in Ron's palm as she gently smiled.
"I love you, even if it's in reverse, I still love you" Mai said.
Ron seemed to have achieved what he needed for a new journey, a new life, in a different world apart from Mai, his beloved wife. He smiled and closed his eyes, a fresh adventure awaits
"You are my sunshine.
My only sunshine.
You make me happy when skys are grey.
You'll never know dear how much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away."
A strong wind suddenly blows, bringing Mai back to the reality. She realized that her face is full of tears. She smiles, and continues walking home.
The sky today is so blue that it makes people feel something wonderful is gonna happen.
All of a sudden, Mai comes across a strange necklace in a circular shape and on the top of it, there's a little handwriting "reverse". Mai picks it up, staring at the strange thing, she seems to reminisce something in the past and decides to bring it home. Abruptly, Mai feels really tired and she soon collapses over the road, losing her conciousness.
The atmosphere seems strange, it's hot like in the summer. The cicada sound suddenly wakes Mai up. She opens her eyes, taking a glance at the place around her, everything seems so familiar, just like what she saw in her teenager days.
"Wait a minute, isn't it the convenience store I used to work at, and the house next to it, isn't that my...old home ?" Mai is in a shock.
Oh well, she has travelled back in time, 63 years ago. A past-shock.
