"Your nephew isn't picky, but what does he like?"
"Well... Kilian will eat just about anything I cook, but he really enjoys sweets! He does like a lot of bread, and could probably eat strawberry tarts for the rest of his life if given the chance, but he really loves cooking with Yuri and I!" y/n chirped.
"I do get a little nervous seeing him in the kitchen around the hot stove, but y/n wants him to learn to take care of his basic needs and to have some independence." Yuri added, "We've taught him simple things first, but he's very eager to make goulash with us."
Kilian fought off a pout as he recalled how lovey dovey y/n and Yuri would be in the kitchen. He'd normally just focus on his books, but he couldn't stand Yuri rubbing up on y/n like that! He wouldn't allow it!
That was how the little boy got into the whole cooking mess, but he actually quite enjoyed it. Learning to cook was fun, and Kilian had to admit that the thought of cooking goulash all on his own for y/n was super exciting!
Now if Yuri wasn't included, that would be great.
Kilian had gotten so absorbed in plotting again, he nearly jumped out of his seat when a voice asked, "Now for the young man, could you introduce yourself by telling us your name and address?"
The boy recovered swiftly, grabbing his raging nerves by the neck and throwing them in a cage to calm himself, "My name is Kilian L. Briar. I'm 6 years old. My house is in the East District of Berlint at 420 Delta Street!"
"And what do you like to do outside of school?"
'Sabotage my Aunt's marriage so I can have her to myself, bully Yuri, eat strawberry tarts, play chess, bully Yuri some more, play board games with Miss Corinne...' "I like to read lots of mystery books about unsolved murder cases! I really like museums too, and the park is a really fun place. I also like to learn about chess with Unc—Un..."
Everyone gave the boy odd looks as he struggled to get the words out. He looked disgusted by the word alone, and trying to say it seemed to be causing him actual pain.
Kilian turned his head way, "With Uncle... Yuri..."
Y/n covered her mouth with sparkling eyes while Yuri gave the kid a look of disbelief, 'Was it really that difficult to say it?'
"And learning to cook is fun." the boy finish awkwardly.
"What sort of things would you like to do at Eden Academy?" Mr. Evans inquired and Kilian paused to think deeply for a long moment.
"I wanna read more books on murder mystery! And learn Biology, even if it's annoying. I also wanna let those animals we saw earlier, especially that horse that trampled my Un..*cough* Uncle." Kilian nodded to himself, "Yeah, I also wanna see more museums."
"You seem to really enjoy murder mystery books, young man! Tell me, do you have any favorites?" Mr. Evans asked with a warm smile and Kilian nodded twice.
"I have one, but I can't remember the name." Kilian lied, unblinking and unmoving as the lie slipped out into the air and hung there for a moment before dissipating.
"Where'd this interest of Murder Mystery come from? Could it be related to your Father?" Mr. Swan questioned and Kilian tensed a little bit.
'Wait, does he know that Papa was murdered?' Kilian wondered, giving the man a long and unblinking stare, 'Was he involved? No, he seems like the type but lacks the balls. Besides, he would've been caught sooner.'
"Please don't bring up my Father right now. This interview is about school, right? Not the past." Kilian replied calmly, though he was feeling very uncomfortable about the question.
"My question is part of this interview, so you have to answer it!" the man demanded and Kilian gave him a glare.
"What's with you and antagonizing people? It's clearly a sensitive topic, so leave it. You've already been told. Pompous old man!" he mumbled that last piece, "I refuse to answer any questions about my Father, and that's final."
"Tch, impertinent brat!" the man scoffed, "Well then, what about your mother? Don't you miss her?"
"No. I prefer my Aunt."
No hesitation, damn.
"Ahem, well, what do your Aunt and Uncle do for a living?" Mr. Evans interjected before the back and forth argument between Mr. Swan and Kilian could continue.
"Uncle works for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and he travels a lot. But he always brings back sweets for me, so I guess it's okay." Kilian replied, 'That's a lie. I hate this man more than anything in the world. Almost as much as I hate this Swan bastard.' "Auntie works at a Casino, and she really likes her job. She does come home a little irritated though, especially when she gets unruly customers." 'She only gets mad when she has an meeting that runs on for too long. Otherwise, she's pretty chill.'
"If you had to give your Aunt and Uncle a score, what would you give them?" Mr. Evans inquired.
"Mm... Auntie gets a 55%, the extra 5% is for being likable. Uncle gets 45%, he had his likable points deducted." Kilian replied, "They're both new at parenting, even if Auntie did a good job taking care of me before Father died, but together, they get 100%!"
Both Yuri and Y/n glanced at the little boy who gave them a sidelong smile, "The last few years have been sad for me, and I'm still hurting, but I feel a lot better every day since Aunt and Uncle are here with me. They aren't perfect, but that's what makes them human." he glanced at the interviewers again, "It's good to know that I'm not being raised by robots."
The interview continued on smoothly, Kilian showing an exceptional amount of emotional intelligence as that Swan bastard kept jabbing at him in attempts to get the little boy to snap.
And, finally...
"Alright, thank you very much for your time today!" Mr. Evans exclaimed, snapping Kilian out of the daze he'd fallen into, "The results should be out within the next week or so, so keep a lookout."
'FREEDOMMMMMMM' Kilian was itching to hop out of the chair but calmly slid off instead, wandering over to y/n and grasping her hand as the trio exited the room.
Once they were safely outside, down the hall, out the building, off the campus, and on the side of the road, all three of them let out a simultaneous sigh of relief.
"We got through it alive." y/n breathed.
"Barely..." Yuri muttered and y/n gave him a frown, turning to him and holding his uninjured hand.
"We should probably take you to a hospital to be extra sure that you're okay." she suggested, "When you left to get treated, what did they say?"
"Oh, it's nothing serious!" Yuri chirped, his mood doing a whole 180, "Aside from my broken arm and my concussion, I've only got a skull fracture, haha!"
"Yuri, that's serious! Why did you come to the interview, you should've been resting!"
"I promised that I'd be there, right? I kept my promise."
"I wouldn't have been angry if you'd stayed away."
Both Yuri and Y/n glanced down at Kilian who was fidgeting with his hands, refusing to make eye contact.
He spared them a single glance.
"I'm only pissed now 'cause you didn't rest. Stupid."
Before either y/n or Yuri could speak, Kilian turned away with a huff and began marching down the street.
Yuri and Y/n watched the boy retreat for a long moment before Yuri nudged his wife with a soft, "I think he hates me."
"No, he doesn't." y/n hummed, "He may seem a little prickly, but he's definitely warmed up to you."
"How can you tell?"
Y/n turned her head and gave her husband a grin.
"Ha, well, he would've given you a -100%— no, a negative infinity rather than a 45%." she stated before looping her arm with Yuri's uninjured one, "Ever thought about that?"
"...huh."
