"Hey, wake up!"

...

"I said wake up!"

...

"Hey. Hey! HEY, YOU!"

"COME ON, WAKE UP ALREADY!!!"

Tanjiro's eyes flashed open and he was wide awake in an instant looking up in surprise.

His gaze was not focused on the angry Kakushi who had woken him up but on the group of very intimidating people who were around him, all staring at him.

"You're in the presence of the Hashira!" the Kakushi exclaimed oh so dramatically.

'The Hashira...?' Tanjiro thought, eyes landing on y/n who stood nearby.

She wore her mask now but Tanjiro could tell she was nervous and a little worried.

"For someone who carries a demon around, he's a bit bland." one of the Hashira hummed, one with white hair and a bit of an odd style.

"Uzui-san!" y/n protested but didn't continue any further, clutching the handle of her blade in a vice-like grip instead and squeezing it until her hands hurt, 'I'm sorry Tanjiro...!'

"Who... who are these people...?" Tanjiro wondered aloud then looked to the very uncomfy y/n for answers, "Y/n-"

Before he could think about speaking to her, the Kakushi shoved Tanjiro's face back to the ground with a, "Don't speak, you idiot! Show some respect!"

"Hey." y/n said flatly, her worried and almost nervous scent shifting into a much more threatening one...

The Kakushi flinched when he saw the masked Demon Slayer staring right at him, the oni mask ten times more terrifying due to the owner's low tone.

"He's hurt. Be gentle." y/n stated.

"R-Right! My apologies!"

"This is the Demon Slayer Corps headquarters. Here, you and y/n will be put on trial." The Insect Hashira, Kocho Shinobu, spoke up.

"Y/n...?" Tanjiro murmured, once more glancing back at the silent y/n, 'Did she... get in trouble because of me?'

"Before the trials begins, please explain your reasons for committing-"

Before she could finish, Shinobu was interrupted by a, "There is no need for a trial!"

The one who had spoken was the Flame Hashira, someone y/n would love to call a friend but was still in that uneasy zone.

His sudden outburst had effectively kicked y/n's confidence in their possible friendship all the way down to zero.

"We're well within our rights to take matters into our own hands!" the actually incarnation of sunshine declared, "I say we behead him along with the demon!"

'Kyo-san, I like your enthusiasm but what the hell...!' y/n thought in distress before forcing out a frantic, "Rengoku-san, isn't that a bit too drastic-"

"If we're going to behead him, let's do it flamboyantly!" it was the Sound Hashira's turn to interrupt y/n.

Beneath her mask, a look of horror settled on y/n's face as Uzui said something about the process of decapitation being flashy and the spraying of blood would be flamboyant and-UGH

Y/n was gonna throw up-

'You'd really kill such a cute kid? This fills my heart with anguish...' The Love Hashira, Kanroji Mitsuri, thought with a saddened expression.

Y/n let out a small squeak instead of a request to hold off the whole murdering Tanjiro and his sister thing.

Mitsuri's attention was immediately drawn to her and the Love Hashira stared at y/n with an adoring expression, 'Y/n-chan is super cute today...! I wonder if she'll want to hang out with me later.'

"Such pitiful children..." The Stone Hashira murmured, "It's such a shame that they were born into such a cruel world."

Y/n liked Himejima. He was very nice to her and always made her feel safe.

But she was absolutely terrified of him at the moment. After all, she too was being put on trial.

'What was that cloud called again...?' The Mist Hashira, Tokito Muichiro wondered before glancing at y/n curiously, 'Hm... who's this person?'

Y/n practically felt the young Hashira's gaze on her and she desperately wanted to run off like she usually did.

Unfortunately, it wasn't an option at the moment. All she could do was focus on the Flame Hashira beside her and wonder if his chest would be comfy to rest on.

It was an odd thing to think about.

But it was better than being scared.

'Nezuko... where's Nezuko? Is she alright?' Tanjiro thought as he looked around the limited area he had to look at.

"Hey, the Hashira are speaking to you. Don't just ignore them." the Kakushi told the burgundy haired boy, "They're the highest-ranking demon slayers in the Demon Slayer Corps."

"Hashira..." Tanjiro murmured, eyes fixated on y/n now, 'So is y/n also a Hashira?'

While it was hard to imagine, anything was possible. Plus, despite her demeanor, y/n was quite calm in the midst of a battle.

She'd remained calm and level-headed back at Natagumo Mountain, able to find a way to stop the attacks from the Demon Slayers who were being controlled without hurting them.

Something about her told Tanjiro that she was very skilled but her skittish behavior made it hard to believe.

"Let's put him out of his misery."

"Right!"

"I agree. Let's do it flamboyantly."

Y/n remained silent, trembling slightly as her internal debate on whether or not to speak up became a bit more intense.

Tanjiro, of course, didn't give a 💩 about whether or not the Hashira were going to kill him.

Instead he...

"Nezuko! Zenitsu! Inosuke! Murata!" he shouted frantically and y/n caved.

"They're alright." she choked out.

Y/n inhaled shakily when Tanjiro's desperate gaze turned to her once more, "They're... they're okay. Zenitsu and Inosuke are receiving medical care. Murata too. And Nezuko..."

"What happened to her?" Tanjiro demanded and y/n sighed quietly.

"She's alright. She's still in her box and a couple of Kakushi have it." y/n replied, "Please calm down."

"Beheading the boy and the demon isn't important. What are we going to do about Tomioka and y/n?" a new voice spoke up.

Up in a tree was the Serpent Hashira, Iguro Obanai. Y/n had no particular opinion on him... he was quite scary.

Not only that but y/n's substitute for a Kasugai Crow didn't like him or his snake very much. In fact, she hated them both. And she was pretty sure they both felt the same.

"Seeing those two without restraints is ticking me off." he hummed, pointing at the Water Hashira who was calmly standing a distance away and paying them no mind, "They've also broken the rules and deserve to be punished."

'He definitely hates me...' y/n thought wearily and she'd a single tear, 'Oh how I wish Shiori was here right now...'

"Don't you have anything to say?" the Serpent Hashira questioned.

"M-My apolog-" y/n began.

"Not you, y/n."

She was interrupted.

Again.

Giyuu remained silent.

'Even Tomioka-san is in trouble because of me...' Tanjiro thought, eyes wide.

"It'll be fine. Both him and y/n didn't resist after all." Shinobu said as y/n silently glowered at Iguro from behind her mask, "Besides, I'm far more interested in what the boy has to say."

"Tanjiro. What you... ahem... we have done is against the rules. I hope you realize that." y/n murmured, "I already know but the others would like to know the reason behind you carrying Nezuko around."

Nezuko.

She called her by her name rather than referring to her as 'a demon' or 'the demon'.

"There's no need for him to speak." Uzui hummed as he reached for his blades, the action prompting y/n to jolt a little bit from where she was.

"No need to rush. Just tell us why." Shinobu insisted then sent y/n a smile, "Or would you prefer to tell us, y/n?"

Y/n felt a little frightened when the Insect Hashira spoke her name, and that fright gave way to full on panic when all eyes went right back to her.

Tanjiro picked up on it almost immediately, damn him and his nose, and blurted, "She's my little sister-"

He cut off, breaking into a fit of coughing which caused y/n to take a small step forward with a tiny, "Tanjiro-"

She stopped when Shinobu walked forward and offered some water to Tanjiro with a, "Here, drink. But be sure to drink slowly since your jaw is broken."

Y/n's grip on her blade tightened even more to the point where it really began to hurt. But... she didn't stop. She'd take anything she was given in order to keep herself from running to help the burgundy haired boy.

Now wasn't the right time.

"Nezuko is my little sister! My family was killed by a demon while I was away and Nezuko was the only one who survived!" Tanjiro began, "She was turned into demon but she's never eaten a human and she never will! She'd never hurt a human being!"

"How do we know what you're saying is true?" Iguro questioned, "She's your family, of course you'd defend her. I don't believe you."

"Please just listen! I became a Demon Slayer so I could find a way to turn Nezuko back into a human!" Tanjiro cried, "It's been over two years since she was turned into a demon and she hasn't harmed a single human!"

"You're just saying the same thing over and over again with nothing to prove your point. How do we know that she won't ever hurt a human?" Uzui demanded.

Muichiro, as usual, didn't give a 💩 and was spacing out as a crow circled overhead.

"Excuse me?" Mitsuri spoke up, "I'm not too sure about this. Perhaps we should wait for Oyakata-sama. Would it really be a good idea to deal with him on our own?"

"My sister would never hurt human! She'll fight alongside me and protect them!" Tanjiro exclaimed.

Y/n tensed when she sensed a presence she'd been dreading since the previous evening, '💩...! He's here...!'

Y/n very sneakily hid beneath Rengoku's cape, trembling violently.

He gave her a curious look and y/n pointed in the direction of the menace himself, Sanemi Shinazugawa. The Wind Hashira.

Rengoku blinked then nodded, understanding what y/n was trying to say and simply acted as though y/n wasn't hiding beside him.

"Is that the idiot of a Demon Slayer who carries around a demon?" the scarred man asked, that scary ass look on his face, "You've got some nerve, brat."

Y/n was hecking quaking at this point, '💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩-'

She peeked out from behind Rengoku and tensed at the sight of Nezuko's box in her mentor's hand. Well damn.

A female Kakushi ran towards the white haired menace with a, "S-Shinazugawa-san, please put the box down!"

He ignored her.

"Shinazugawa, please don't act out of line." was all that Shinobu said, noticing how terrified y/n appeared.

She was also ignored.

"What's this about the demon fighting alongside you? Like hell a demon would protect humans!" Sanemi exclaimed as he drew his blade, "Complete bull💩!"

Y/n flinched when the Wind Hashura stabbed the box. She heard the yelp from Nezuko, the noise enough to make her heart crack.

'I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I-'

She internally slapped herself, 'Don't be sorry! Do something! Help her, idiot!'

Tanjiro jumped to his feet, filled with rage, "It doesn't matter if you're a Hashira, I won't let you get away with hurting my sister!"

Sanemi merely laughed, ripping his blade back out of the box, "Is that so?"

Well. Tanjiro was pissed now.

"Stop it! Oyakata-sama will be here soon!" Giyuu shouted but was also ignored.

"Shinazugawa-san, don't hurt them!" y/n shouted, leaving her safe spot beside the Flame Hashira, "Don't... don't hurt Nezuko!"

Sanemi halted, the sudden outburst from the typically timid y/n being enough to stun him into silence.

Tanjiro took this opportunity to hecking run at the dude and actually headbutt him.

Ooo.

It was a dreadful sound.

Y/n's protest and Tanjiro's attack were the perfect combination to catch the Wind Hashira by surprise.

But...

Y/n's soul basically left her body when both the scarred man and Tanjiro flopped to the ground, Nezuko's box being dropped.

Tanjiro was the first to get up and run to guard Nezuko's box while Sanemi was splayed out on the ground.

He was hecking stunned-

'...Tanjiro...' y/n thought, eyes wide beneath her mask as she stared.

Her awe quickly shifted to dread.

'NOW WE'RE BOTH SCREWED...!'
