(Warning: Haiyang reflecting on his 💩 decisions and a lack of communication between the pink haired siblings)
Ayumu knew Kaori and Y/n would be furious when he returned so he settled for giving them space when they returned to their Guardian's home.
It was best to let the two cool off before he attempted to speak with them.
After saving Master Masakatsu, Ayumu had invited Aether and Yoimiya over.
Simply because he knew Kaori was be glad to see Yoimiya and Gramps would possibly have info on Aether's sister.
Itto? Itto was just there.
Which was how they got here.
"Woah! This food is super good!" Paimon exclaimed with bright eyes as she practically inhaled the food.
Ayumu had actually cooked all of it himself.
Each and every single one of the dishes.
Since Kaori refused to go near him.
The young man smiled, a genuine one this time, "I'm glad you like it. The sakura tempura specifically is my specialty since Kaori loves it so much."
Kaori, who was seated next to Yoimiya, scowled at Ayumu while very angrily eating the last bit of sakura tempura.
Haiyang was letting y/n feed him onigiri but would turn his head away whenever y/n offered him some sashimi.
Ayumu smiled awkwardly, the silence around him really starting to make him uncomfy.
"Aha... so! Yoimiya! How have things been?" Ayumu inquired with a nervous expression.
"Oh, things have been-" Yoimiya began but flinched back with wide eyes when Kaori suddenly slammed her hands on the table.
"🚚 off, Ayumu!" Kaori shouted, "You think you can just get dragged off to prison, blow the place up and let everyone believe that you were dead. Dead, for FIVE MOTHER🚚ING MONTHS-!!!"
Ayumu gasped, "Language, Kaori-"
"SHUT THE 🚚 UP YOU, 🚚🚚🚚🚚🚚🚚🚚🚚♀️🐶🚚🚚🚚🚚♀️🐶🚚🚚🚚💩🚚🚚🚚🚚🚚🐂💩🚚🚚🚚🚚🦇💩🚚🚚🚚🚚🚚!!!!!!"
Aether, y/n, Paimon, Yoimiya and Itto watched with blank expressions as Kaori screamed at her brother who was leaning back a little, eyes wide like a cat's.
The colorful stream of emoji censored profanities was a little bizarre to them. Aether glanced at Gramps who was calmly sipping his medicine, completely unbothered by the drama.
Paimon looked back and forth between Kaori and Ayumu, 'Are they gonna fight? Here? During dinner?'
"Don't try to act like you were gone for a two week trip, damn it, at least apologize! I haven't heard one apology out of you since you came home!!!" Kaori continued, "🚚 your food, 🚚 your sakura tempura AND FINALLY, 🚚 YOU!!!"
"Damn." Itto commented as Kaori got up and retreated, slamming the door behind her, "Sis really popped off."
"Shut the 🚚 up before I rip out your horns and shove them up your 🍑." Ayumu said sharply, "You're not even supposed to be here!"
"Last time I checked, neither are you. Aren't you supposed to be in prison?" Itto questioned as he reached for the last bit of onigiri only for Haiyang to slap his hand away.
Ayumu's expression darkened and his eyes narrowed. Itto could've sworn he growled.
"If you want to keep your tongue, I advise that you shut your mouth. Now."
"Yessir." Itto went back to eating, 'Nope, not gonna die today, no thank you. Both Ayumu and Kaori are insane, good grief.'
"I'll, uh... go talk to her." Yoimiya said awkwardly before hurrying away, 'These people are crazy-'
Aether was too scared to say anything now, everyone being eerily quiet.
However...
"That was a bad move. Having an outburst while everyone is trying to eat." Haiyang stated, "Now the food is ruined."
"Uhm... not to be rude but Paimon agrees with Haiyang." Paimon spoke up.
"Sorry." Ayumu apologized with an uneasy smile, "But, Kaori was right. I haven't even bothered apologizing about pretending to be dead and stuff..."
"Now isn't the time though." y/n reminded him, "Aether, Ayumu brought you here because Gramps might know something about your sister."
"Right!" Aether exclaimed.
"Well, I've been thinking a lot about it and after hearing all the stuff you've told me about how you two got separated... I'll have to guess that she's been here for a very long time-" y/n continued.
Itto tilted his head, "?"
"Oh, now that I think about it..." Haiyang pointed to Aether, "Your twin sister... short hair the same color as yours, same eye color, flowers in her hair... dress and... a scarf?"
"Yes! That's her!" Aether gasped, eyes lighting up with hope, "That's my sister."
"Never seen her." Haiyang said flatly before nibbling on his onigiri while Itto stared longingly at it with puppy eyes.
"Hm... you, Traveler." Gramps said as he stood, "Or would you prefer it if I called you Aether?"
"Ah, please call me Aether." the blond traveler replied and Gramps nodded.
"Very well. Come with me, Aether." he instructed, leaving the room.
Aether followed along with Paimon.
"Alright, time for you to leave Itto!" Ayumu chimed, getting up and grabbing Itto by the hair, "Come on!"
"OUCH! HEY! WATCH THE HAIR!!!" Itto complained as he was effortlessly dragged.
Leaving y/n and Haiyang alone.
The God glanced at y/n who was staring at her food with an odd expression.
"Are you alright?"
Y/n looked up, alarmed and smiled nervously, "Ah... I'm fine. Just feeling a little unwell, that's all..."
Haiyang frowned, "I see..."
"I should be fine after some rest, so I'll just-HEY!" y/n was suddenly picked up bridal style and next thing she knew, Haiyang was carrying her out of the room and down the hall.
"I can walk, y'know."
"I know." Haiyang replied simply, "I just don't want to trouble you with such a thing right now. You need rest."
Y/n didn't protest any further, allowing Haiyang to carry her to her room.
After they arrived, Haiyang patiently waited outside the door until y/n changed and slid open the door again.
"I... erm... would you like to sit with me?" y/n offered, "I'm not quite ready to sleep just yet..."
Haiyang nodded, "Of course."
The duo kinda just plopped down in the middle of the room together, their shoulders just barely touching.
Oddly enough...
'My heart is racing... we're not even touching...!' Haiyang thought in alarm, desperately fighting to hold back the rosy blush which wanted to appear.
Very recently, he'd found himself becoming very nervous around y/n.
Everything about her made his heart flutter and his face get all warm. Seeing y/n smile made him all fuzzy inside.
Her laughter and her bright e/c eyes constantly plagued his mind at all hours of the day and he even found himself dreaming of y/n.
This experience was... new.
Haiyang wasn't stupid.
He knew why he was feeling this way.
He just didn't know how to handle it.
In the past, during the days where he would make... not so good decisions, Haiyang took what he wanted, when he wanted it, however he wanted to.
Land? No biggie, just kill a few gods and scare some mortals into submission.
Power? That's what murder is for.
Amusement? Maybe marry a couple folks then kill them later for funsies or whenever he got bored of them.
Haiyang wasn't a good person.
That's obvious.
He wasn't a person at all.
If he wanted to, he could do whatever he wanted to y/n without much effort.
But... he didn't want to hurt her.
He didn't want to just take, take, take.
He wanted to give all his love to this precious human being. He wanted to cherish her, make her feel safe, hold her in his arms, constantly be near.
Haiyang wanted to love y/n.
One problem... he didn't know how.
How can a heartless being like himself ever love another? In order to love others, you've gotta be able to love yourself.
And to be honest, Haiyang hated himself almost as much as he hated Morax.
The God blinked in surprise when y/n glanced up at him, "Is something wrong?"
"Hm? Why do you ask?"
"I dunno... you just sound upset." y/n murmured then panicked, "But, uh, don't take it the wrong way! It's just that everyone has a unique sound based on what they're feeling and, uh-"
The h/c haired girl flinched when Haiyang leaned a little closer, the depths of his steel blue eyes being all she could see.
"What do I sound like?"
Y/n gulped, "Well, uh... it's a lot of emotions and feelings mashed together. If I were to give it a form so you could picture it... it'd be a massive vortex out at sea."
Haiyang's cheeks went red when y/n chuckled quietly to herself, smiling.
"Hah... funny, isn't it? You're the Overlord of the Vortex and I visualized your feelings as a vortex..." y/n said quietly, "There's so much self-loathing and guilt... anger and confusion. But there's happiness and affection there too."
Haiyang observed y/n for a moment and she jumped when he laughed.
"You're very interesting, y/n. To be able to read my feelings like that." Haiyang complimented her, "I like that about you."
"O-Oh..."
"You do know about my history, don't you?" Haiyang questioned, "The things I used to do before and during the Archon War, leading up to the day I was sealed."
Y/n nodded, "Yeah, a bit..."
"If that's the case, I'm sure you can understand why I despise myself so much." Haiyang said with a bitter expression, "Though I'm sure there are others far worse than I am, I'm still an awful being. I feel as though I don't deserve love... affection, friendship. I lack empathy, kindness and humanity. Though I suppose that's supposed to be expected since I'm not human."
Y/n raised a hand, debating on whether she wanted to hug him or rest a hand on his cheek. AGH, SO CONFUSING!!!
So, she settled for patting his back.
It was awkward and hesitant but Haiyang gave her a look of surprise anyways.
"We all feel like that sometimes. That we're unworthy of any form of love or affection." y/n pointed out, "But... when someone still cares about you despite the things you've done, I guess the fact that you are loved becomes easier to believe over time."
Haiyang blinked, 'Huh?'
Y/n gave him a wary smile, "I mean... the feelings used to be way stronger a couple weeks ago... so maybe part of you does believe that you deserve to be loved."
"..."
"..."
"..."
Y/n squeaked when she was dragged into a hug out of nowhere, her face pressed against Haiyang's chest.
What a surprise.
"Haha, you're such a softy." y/n chuckled, embracing Haiyang while he had his face in her hair.

"I'll see you later, Kaori. Take care, alright?" Yoimiya exclaimed, "And think about what I said!"
"Alright, alright..." Kaori sighed as she waved, her friend giving her one last bright smile and wave before leaving.
The girl stood in front of the estate, watching Yoimiya go before sitting down.
What a day.
"Oh? You're out here?"
Kaori tensed and looked back to find Ayumu awkwardly standing a distance away with a sheepish expression.
She glared before turning away again with an angry little, "Hmph!"
Ayumu sighed, 'She's really upset... she didn't even yell at me or call me an idiot.'
"May I sit with you?"
"Do whatever you want like you always do. It doesn't matter what I say, you'll sit down anyways. You don't care about how I feel!" Kaori said sharply, venom in her voice.
Ayumu winced, 'Ouch...'
He carefully took a seat next to his sister with an exhausted look on his face.
Silence filled the air between the two siblings as the moon shone above them.
Ayumu had no idea what to say.
"I cried every day for three months y'know." Kaori suddenly spoke up, "I still did after that. Just not as often."
Ayumu looked at his sister with round eyes, surprised by her words, "Kaori..."
"I cried and cried and cried. When those jerks from the Tenryou Commission said awful things about you, I screamed at them." Kaori continued, "My big brother isn't a bad person, I would say. But I couldn't be sure about it because I never learned why! Even when I got a chance to see you... and when you got a chance to defend yourself, you never told anyone why you did it!"
The pink haired girl turned her gaze to her brother, eyes welling up with tears, "Ayumu. You killed people. Why?"
Ayumu opened his mouth to reply but couldn't find the words, looking away.
"It was... it was nothing..." he murmured, "I was wrong. I'm sorry."
"Tell me what happened, damn it!" Kaori snapped, "You're a crazy piece of trash but you wouldn't go and kill someone for no reason! There's always a reason, no matter how stupid!"
"I can't..." Ayumu's voice was on the verge of breaking as he refused to make eye contact with his sister.
Kaori stared for a moment before she barked a laugh, "Why? Because I'm a kid? Because your sweet little sister can't handle the awful details? Cut the bullshit, Ayumu, just tell me! Is it that difficult?"
He didn't utter a word.
"Let me guess? They said something bad about Gramps? Or maybe they got on your nerves about how much you look like Dad!" Kaori said sharply, "What is it, huh?"
Each word that left his sister's mouth hurt like a knife to the gut as Kaori kept on shouting at him, demanding an answer.
"Kaori."
She stopped when she heard Ayumu's voice waver and saw the tears in his eyes.
They weren't your usual sad tears.
No, no.
Those were angry tears.
Tears of pure rage.
"They threatened you. I just so happened to stumble across them while I was on my way to deliver supplies to the Resistance." Ayumu finally spoke up, "And those filthy bastards threatened to hurt you, Gramps and y/n. Just hearing them talk about it made me so damn angry, I could hardly think."
Kaori tensed, "Huh?"
Ayumu finally looked at his sister, "You want to know, don't you? Fine. I'll stop treating you like a little kid and I'll tell you." his expression softened up a little, "Besides, it'll be harder to protect you if you don't know what I'm trying to protect you from, hm?"
The girl gazed at her brother for a long moment before she nodded, some of the tension leaving her.
"Yeah, okay..."
She frantically pat her cheeks before declaring, "Right! Hit me! I'm ready for it!"
Ayumu cracked a small smile and nodded.
