Y/n had a good childhood.
It didn't start off good but it turned out nice in the end and she wouldn't trade the memories she made for the world.
She had little to no memories of her Father and none of her Mother. As far as she knew, her Mother wanted nothing to do with her. Same with her father.
As a baby, an elderly couple took care of her. They were nice to her and always made her feel special and loved.
The first gift she'd ever recieved was from them. That gift being a Kamera.
It had been something their late son had sent them, the last one before he had died after some ruins he was exploring had collapsed.
On y/n's fourth birthday, they gave her that Kamera and told her it was all hers. To take pictures of the vast world like their son once wanted to.
Y/n treasured the Kamera and brought it along everywhere she went. She took pictures of the run rising and setting.
She took pictures of ships out at sea and beautiful cloud formations during storms.
Y/n loved that Kamera so much. But it had gotten her in trouble once before.
Y/n smiled at the photo the Kamera produced, admiring the picture of the cat who had patiently waited for her to take a picture of it before walking away.
"Bye-bye, kitty!" she chirped, waving to the feline as it trotted away. She glanced back at the picture and frowned at it.
Huh, she'd caught something else.
Y/n realized it was a little boy around her age frantically trying to get two grown men to let go of a bag of some kind.
Y/n slowly looked over in that direction and her heart dropped all the way to her stomach.
She'd been spotted.
"You little brat, give me that-!" one of the men shouted and y/n let out a frightened squeal.
Before the man could take her Kamera or the photo in her hand, the little boy who had originally been in the picture hit him on the back of his head with a wooden plank.
He wasted no time grabbing his bag and dragging y/n along with him, ignoring the shouts of the angry men behind them.
"Hmph! That lazy Old Geezer..." the boy grumbled as him and y/n hurried to a much more populated area, "He never keeps his word and then I have to pay the price for it...!"
"Uhm... excuse me? Who are you?" y/n inquired as the duo slowed down to walk rather than running.
The boy had turquoise eyes and pink hair. Y/n originally thought it was white due to the lighting but now that the sun was shining down on them, she could see that it was just a really light shade of pink.
There was dirt on his face, a couple of cuts here and there yet his face still had a strangely soft look to it.
"Ah, Ayumu is my name! Sorry for suddenly dragging you like that." Ayumu apologized, "Can't let my witness get killed now can I?"
"K-Killed!? Witness!?" y/n cried.
Ayumu nodded, "Because of you, I have proof that those bastards were up to no good! But, you can't be my witness if I don't have your name. So... you are...?"
"Y/n." she replied.
"Y/n..." Ayumu murmured and he smiled, "I like your name. It's pretty. And I like how it sounds too! I could say it all day! Y/n..."
Y/n's cheeks heated up, "H-Huh...? Well, uhm, why were those guys bothering you?"
Ayumu huffed, crossing his arms, "My useless Dad owes them mora that he doesn't even have. They were trying to take my hard-earned mora instead."
"Well how did they know that you're your Dad's kid?" y/n asked and Ayumu sighed.
"I look a lot like him." Ayumu replied, "And I didn't have enough mora to use on dye and food for my baby sister this month. So, of course, I chose to use my mora on food rather than dye."
"Ohh, I see." y/n said with a nod, "Well... you could borrow some of my mora."
Ayumu frowned, "But you're a kid, you wouldn't have any mora."
"Huh!? You're a kid too and you have mora!" y/n protested, "Plus, I take pretty pictures and people pay me for them so I make my own money. Here, you can use this for dye."
Ayumu had an odd look on his face as y/n gave him a small pouch of mora, "Oh."
He tucked it away, "Huh, thank you. Do you wanna help me pick a color?"
Y/n's eyes lit up, "Yes please!"
When y/n was five, she received another gift. It was completely on accident and very unexpected but she got a friend.
Almost thirteen years later, y/n now living in Liyue, she'd gotten another friend.
Plus that Kamera she treasured.
The little lizard who kept her company.
It was so human-like and there was always a knowing look in those amber eyes.
Y/n told herself she was imagining it but part of her was still suspicious.
The lizard was oddly polite.
It always stayed very far away from the bathroom when y/n was washing up and turned in the other direction when y/n was preparing to get changed.
She was a little wary since lizards typically didn't care. Any normal lizard would probably look you in eye the while you're trying to change or just be uninterested and be invested in its surroundings.
However, this lizard always turned away when y/n didn't have clothes on. Almost as if it was embarrassed...
'Is it a shapeshifter?' y/n wondered as she wiggled her way into her shirt, "Hey uh, you wouldn't happen to be some kind of shape-shifter, right? Cause that would be creepy."
The lizard, still facing the wall, flinched and y/n was actually scared for a second until it sneezed.
She laughed to herself, "Haha, what am I saying? Of course you're not a shape-shifter of some kind. That'd be silly."
As she turned away, humming to herself while thinking of what to get for dinner, the lizard let out a quiet exhale of relief.
Y/n's little lizard friend tended to leave gifts sometimes. No, not the smelly kind.
The kind that made you want to cry.
Like fine pieces of noctilucous jade or core lapis. Other times it would being piles of mora and the lizard sit upon it, waiting for y/n to discover it.
Every single time she did, the lizard's tail would begin to wag, knocking some of the mora off the table.
"H-Huh? What's all this?" y/n murmured, picking up one of the coins while the lizard watched her expectantly, "Is this actual mora?"
She picked up another coin and tapped them against one another experimentally.
'Sounds like mora.' she thought then panicked, "Did you steal this? Please don't tell me you stole this-"
'Of course I didn't steal it. I made it for you.' the lizard, who was definitely not a handsome tall man who has thousands of simps, thought.
The lizard nudged her hand, making a growly humming noise similar to purring and y/n sighed, petting it.
"I'll trust you on this one and just hope you didn't steal it." y/n chuckled, "Are you perhaps a dragon? Dragons do like shiny things so it would make sense for you to hoard all this mora..."
'I'm not hoarding it. It's for you-' the lizard thought as y/n picked it up, 'Well, I have no way of telling her. I suppose it doesn't really matter since I didn't steal it in the first place.'
It wasn't like she stopped receiving gifts after the lizard stopped showing up.
Some days she would wake up and find a bunch of mora laying on her kitchen floor.
She'd be really confused at first but would smile and giggle to herself when she spotted the bits of core lapis and noctilucous jade. That was how she knew that it was the work of her little lizard friend.
She didn't mind receiving these little gifts.
It was actually quite nice.
(Zhongli as a mini dragon has my heart now. I don't care. Mini dragon Zhongli is better than human Zhongli)
