Love Loss

Nico's POV:

I think I found it.

I think I found the book that might give me the answers that I need.

It was an autobiography by a person named William Rigs.

I had seen his name around in other books while trying to find my topic of interest, but never really paid any mind to who he was until it was mentioned that he was a human turned vampire.

Apparently, he was a very well known scientist as a human. Intelligent beyond belief and respected by many.

Many humans and vampires apparently.

The book mentioned earlier how he worked closely with the vampire community, close enough to be thought of as their equal because of his skills and knowledge.

He wrote that as he grew into his late fifties, many vampires that he worked with approached the Lord, saying that he was vital enough to the community to be kept alive longer than a normal human.

I glanced around the library, making sure it was empty before continuing to read just how his transformation happened.

It read:

Vampire blood in of itself is an interesting concept. Since the time of their domestication, their most feral instincts lay dormant, save for the seasonal Blood Moon. On that night, their instincts run rampant, overtaking the vampire and actually changing the chemical compound of their blood, putting them into an intense and savage state of bloodlust until said lust has been satisfied.

This goes for every vampire except the Royals. The Lord, Lady, and, simply speaking, their descendants have a completely different chemical build of blood. Within royal bodies, the instincts that lay dormant within every other Vampire's body run freely within the royals. Only they possess the ability to contain the power of their immensely feral ancestors and keep themselves under control. The instincts awaken completely within the Lords and Ladies, And less so with each child they have. Thus being the reason the Blood Moon hardly if ever effects them and their first two children.

Because of this difference in chemical build, my body was able to go through the change from human to vampire. The application of royal blood into my body began the process of my change. Royal vampire blood is a dominant source in of itself, and took over and altered my own human blood into that of a normal Vampires. It was a difficult process that took several days and a huge toll on my body until the process was over and I had become a complete vampire in every aspect.

I let out a short sigh, furrowing my brows in a wave of frustration.

Royal blood... What did he mean by that?

I have royal blood, but the other books I read only ever mentioned it being done by the Lord himself.

Could I do it? Could I change Khloe myself?

I wished for nothing more than for it to be that easy, but a part of me didn't want to risk it.

I may have royal blood, but my blood might not be enough to change her blood.

My blood would be able to do at least something right?

As I thought that over more negative outcomes came to my mind than positive ones.

There are so many things that could go wrong.

Best case scenario, it might just give her a hemolytic reaction.

Worst case scenario, Her body fights against my blood instead of submitting since my blood isn't as powerful as a Lords and she dies.

The absolute best case scenario is that it works and she changes successfully.

God, what I wouldn't give to talk to William Rigs.

Unfortunately, he died around 200 years ago, only having lived 678 years longer after his change.

It looked like his human age transferred to what it would be in vampire standards and he died around the age that every vampire does.

I rested my elbows on the table, glancing over what was written once again.

Maybe I could test it on somebody else first; see what their reaction to my blood is.

But where would I even get somebody for that?

I closed the book before resting my head in my hands, releasing the tension in my shoulders with a long breath.

Why did this have to be so difficult?

I barely even processed the footsteps approaching me before I felt a pair of familiar hands setting themselves on my shoulder before lightly trailing themselves down to my chest.

"Hello, my love," The voice purred from behind me.

My eyes shot open wide as I quickly removed the hands from my body.

"Jesus Christ, Xander, have you ever heard of personal space?" I snapped, turning to face him.

He almost immediately burst out into a fit of laughter as he moved to take the seat beside me.

"Sorry, I couldn't help myself. You just looked so focused on-" He glanced at the book, his laughter eventually dying down.

"William Rigs? Wasnt he that super glorified scientist a couple centuries back?"

I stared at him for a moment.

"Yeah. How did you know?" I asked.

I had never even heard of his name before looking for a solution to my problem.

Xander leaned back, setting his feet on the desk right by the book.

"This library was basically where I lived before we left. While dad put you through 'Lord training' or whatever you wanna call it, I had nothing to do so I just read. I've read basically every book here and know he's mentioned a lot in basically every history or science book, but I've never read his autobiography."

His words actually caught me off guard. I thought he spent all that time our father was lecturing me out causing trouble. I never would have guessed that he was here all this time.

"So why are you reading it?" he asked, "Did dad make you or something?"

I shook my head, rolling back my shoulders as I sat up.

"No, I was just bored. And also avoiding the things Father told me to do." I said, partially honestly.

Xander shook his head.

"Man, I would switch places with you so fast," He began, admittedly catching my attention," I wish dad had me do more princely things for the city instead of just keeping me to the side."

"So you want to be the Lord?" I asked.

"Oh hell no," Xander said a little too enthusiastically, "No thanks, that's not for me and destiny already decided that that was all on you, dude. I just mean that dad gives you all of the prince work and just leaves me alone to do whatever. Like I get that I'm not the true heir unless you quite literally die, but I can still do things for the city y'know?"

I stayed silent, listening to his unexpected rant.

I thought he was more than happy just staying on the sidelines.

He sighed, laying his head hang back against the back of the chair, "I don't know. I guess I shouldn't be getting this worked up about it, but I just kind of feel like I was a mistake or  not needed or something."

"Vampires can't have mistakes, Xan. And didn't he have you do something last week?" I asked.

He lifted his head up to meet my eyes, his voice flattening and sounding almost annoyed as he spoke, "Yeah. One thing. He made me read and revise the annual treaty with the pack of vampires at the northern border and then send it out. That's literally the only thing."

I sat up a bit straighter.

"The pack at the northern border?," I began, "They're still an issue?"

"I guess," He replied, "According to dad they invaded the city a couple months ago and went on a killing spree and killed like 50 of our humans."

That thought irked me.

My fingers began drumming against the wooden desk.

I never liked that my father agreed to let that pack stay here. No other Lord that I've heard of would have let them.

The first thing I'd do as Lord would be kicking them out.

They're nothing but good for nothing savages that don't know how to accept the changing times and instead want to go back and live as our ancestors did.

So my father let them live as uncivilized monsters and had them create their own little town right at the north border, far from the humans of the city and far from us.

Let them snack on whatever animals they please.

"Isn't the whole point of the treaty to make sure that doesn't happen?" I asked.

We as vampires still had the duty to protect the human residents of our city.

"Well, yeah. That's why dad had me revise it. Apparently, they found a loophole, but I patched it up."

"Thank god," I mumbled under my breath.

I feel like he gave that job to Xander for a reason, knowing that I would have just suggested getting rid of them all together.

"Well, if it means that much to you, I can see if he'll let you do some of my work, or if he doesn't, just give it to you anyway. It would surely make my life a hell of a lot easier." I suggested.

Xander perked up almost immediately.

"Really? Id love that!"

"And I think you're weird for wanting this so badly, but whatever."

"I mean it beats just sitting in here all day. You're always busy, Doe is always doing something and it's not like I really have friends," He said.

I shrugged, "I guess. Speaking of which where is Doe?"

"Probably with Khloe and Marcus. Those three are together pretty much all the time whenever Marcus isn't busy."

I smiled a bit.

I was happy that she had friends here.

"They're probably with Lily right about now. I was about to go there myself to get something to eat, if you want to come," He offered.

I was planning on having lunch with Khloe anyway, so I might as well.

Although us eating alone in my room is definitely different than with Xander and her friends, it might still be fun.

"Alright, let's go."
