97: 𝙷𝚒𝚜𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚢
It was in their nature to avoid one another.
Nova couldn't get up the courage to even get close to Jirou, who seemed to be coping by pretending like they weren't partners at all.
The school day ended without them even talking to each other.
Nova guessed that Jirou didn't see it was worth talking to her. Since the paper didn't affect their grade that much. But it was still important. At least to Nova.
But Nova understood why Jirou didn't want too. The entrance exam where Nova saved her and the first day of school where they agreed to be friends were both long forgotten. In both their minds.
They won't ever be friends like Nova had foolishly hoped for that first day. But that was okay, Nova had other friends. Besides it wasn't like this was new to her. There were lots of times where group projects didn't include groups with her.
In middle school Nova either did it herself, or if it was a big group they did it without telling her when they were meeting up. The teachers never really cared.
So that was the plan.
Jirou walked out chatting with her usual group. Ignoring this whole thing. Jirou seemed to be very nonchalant about things, was she really laid back enough to just not complete a project?
It kinda made Nova sad... That Jirou hated her that much. But it's not like she could judge her, her cousin was dead because of her father. And while that didn't involve Nova...
She understood that some people weren't forgiving.

Nova typed out her searches on the computer. Since she didn't have one she had to go to the public library for research. Using the computers and printers available there. Zoey was home, alone for now. Karon wasn't there when she left.
Nova set her up with the TV and promised to be back in two hours. Which meant she didn't have a lot of research time.
Knowing Jirou, she'd probably want to do the report on her cousin. Even though she wasn't a big pro, she was still her hero. It took a few complicated Google searches to find her though, since Nova didn't know her name...
She hadn't even known her name... It felt wrong, it felt like Nova should know the names of every life her father ended. She knew many of them, and she knew the dates and locations of all his attacks. So she googled those instead, usually reports like that also held the identities of those who died.
There had been six confirmed attacks by Rikko Kurayami.
Which on it's own didn't sound like much. But the damage done in each was devastating.
The first was the only one that stood apart. A single bank robbery.
Nova must have been around four, almost five at the time of the crime.
It was sloppily done, in a way. Obviously he hadn't done it before. But his quirk made it easy. Kurayami walked into a central bank wearing civilian clothes. Then used metal inside to create his armor. Burst open the safe without lifting a finger and collected the gold inside. While standing more than thirty feet away.
He was gone before anyone could even get close. And somehow managed to completely disappear.
Then... A year past.
Suddenly an office building in a smaller town completely collapsed after closing. Pros showed up to the scene and spotted Kurayami, immediately launching the first ever attacks on him.
Twenty were injured and three killed.
The next week there was a large business, 'Mask'; a support company specializing in manufacturing hero equipment. Kurayami raided the place, killing ten workers with bullet like projectiles controlled by his quirk.
The first civilian casualties.
The pros once again arrived, this time with a police force. Twenty injured, thirty killed. Oddly enough... There was no reports of any weapons stolen. Everything had been destroyed and the CEO, Ian Wik was killed. One of the most powerful business men in the city.
Another break, it was nearly a year before there was another attack. But this one had been anticipated by police lead by a detective officer named Samson Watanabe. The lead detective on his case.
The ambush was set up with several notable heroes. Including a young endeavor and several trained police officers.
That was the fight where Ingenium was maimed.
Twenty were injured and fifteen killed.
There was silence for two years. There were a few smaller attacks that some believed could have been him, but his face wasn't seen and there hadn't been any actual evidence it was him and not someone with a similar quirk. The world has started to slowly forget.
Until another attack in Osaka. Farther from where the previous attacks had been. Another bank. This time there wasn't any gold taken, other than used as a weapon. The entire building has been destroyed and then set on fire by Kurayami Rikko. Supposedly there had been a lower level to it as well, Kurayami went in and searched it. Then came out and collapsed it completely.
Fifty civilians died. Most of them were employees, but there were a few passerbys that got too close and fell in. There were no customers since it has been closed at the time of the attack. Pros showed up and it was a blood bath. Sixty pro heroes and police officers entered the scene.
Twenty eight survived.
Then there was a final attack. Another pro set up. Several months after silence.
This time they didn't have numbers. All they had was All Might. They knew they couldn't risk another large amount of heroes dying. Japan was weak because of the casualties caused by the blood bath beforehand.
Somehow they anticipated his next move. Or maybe they led him somewhere. Either way in an abandoned neighborhood All Might waited in ambush. Their fight took place for hours.
But there was no death. Or injury aside from the two powerful parties. Although rumor has it there was one civilian that got a little too close and sustained a broken arm.
And that was it.
In total Rikko Kurayami was estimated to be responsible for nearly one hundred and fifty deaths.
Sixty of which were civilians. Mostly middle aged male workers, but some female as well.
Thankfully there were no children.
But still. Knowing the statistics... It was no wonder Japan hated any memory of Rikko Kurayami.
Typing at the computer Nova searched for Jirous cousin. Statistically she most likely passed in either the last blood bath, or the attack on Mask.
Nova decided to check the reports on the first one. The list of fatalities was shorter. At least for the pros.
Nova by no means enjoyed researching her father's crimes. It made her sick. But she knew how to do it, in fact she knew most of the information on it by heart. It had been repeated to her, over and over again. At first so she would understand what he had done.
But then... Her father became history. Important history. Textbooks were released and some of her schools curriculum contained mentions of the attacks, same for other big villains.
But there was a certain shame... She has always been shunned by her peers, if not completely harassed. But sitting through a class where the teacher spoke of an evil man... Who happened to be her father?
Hell.
But she was used to that by now. Skimming the article on the slow library computer.
The attack was harsh and killed many employees of Mask industries-
Nova cursed as she accidentally clicked a link over the company name. Automatically sending her to another article about it specifically. It was a fairly short page, since it was no longer in business.
Mask was a hero support company founded by Don Wik as a means to develop weapons and support items for the heroes of Japan.
After his passing the company was taken over by his son Ian Wik. Who faced backlash not long after when a nameless employee told the media the company had been secretly selling weapons to organized crime gangs.
Ian Wik denied these claims but before any investigations could be complete the main building and research facilities were destroyed in a terrorist attack. (See Rikko Kurayami)
Nova looked it over for a moment. Then frowned and clicked off.
A black market weapons dealer? Sure maybe she was curious.
Maybe there was a little tiny part in her that told her that was the reason behind what her father did. And maybe it was right, but that didn't really mean much at this point. He still murdered a bunch of people. Workers. Some of which were probably trying to make an honest living. Most of which has families.
Nova forced herself not to care why he did it. So she didn't forget about what he did.
She returned to the original article and scrolled. Reaching the list of Dead heroes at the bottom. Thirty men and women. Killed for defending the helpless.
Now they were merely names on a screen.
She scrolled through them. Feeling like she was wondering through a graveyard. Until she reached a final one.

A/n: We love info dump chapters.
Keeping track of the timeline makes me dizzy, so if anything said here is like... A little off from what's been stated before don't come for me.
All I have is a brief outline of events in my notes app lmao.
