85: 𝙸𝚝'𝚜 𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐

Rainy days were often the worst.

Today was no exception. Nova and Zoey jogged practically the whole way to school, both with umbrellas in hand. Although Nova's had a hole in it that let the occasional drops hit her face and other skin that weren't covered by her raincoat.

The weekend was over, meaning this would be the first time she's seen Iida since the incident where she just... Showed up at his home. She cursed herself for letting Zoey go there without asking more questions.

She couldn't even imagine how uncomfortable she'd feel if he were to just show up at her home. She'd feel like her privacy had been invaded, like a boundary had been breeched without permission. She figured it would be worse for him and his family, given her past.

His mom looked horrified, at the mere sight of her. As if she was a demon, or the ghost of Rikko sent to Haunt them.

Needless to say Nova told Zoey it would be a good idea to not have any playdates for the time being. To which the little girl understood.

Nova shook off her umbrella and raincoat in the foyer locker area. At UA these weren't often used unless it was raining. Due to the fact that most desks had storage inside for books and such.

Nova hung up her jacket and umbrella in her locker and shut it. Using her quirk on instinct to snap the lock shut. She heard someone else nearby do the same and glanced over.

Iida.

Her and Iida seemed to be the only ones occupying this row of lockers at the moment. She glanced over, but his eyes remained straight ahead.

Nova bit her lip nervously, should she... Say something to him? Sorry? Or just explain what happened in more detail. She felt more comfortable now than she had when being watched by most of his family.

Besides Iida wasn't so bad. Recently he'd been rather kind to her, and they survived the stain incident together.... She remembered the fuzzy night, how he called her Nova several times instead of Kurayami. She wondered if he'd do it again if she insisted. Or if he kept saying Kurayami in order to be respectful and professional.

"H-hey- Iida? I just wanted to-"

The boy slammed his locker shut, cutting her off before she could apologize or say anything farther. Nova jumped slightly at the loud metallic sound the locker made, looking up at Iida with wide eyes. He didn't look in her direction, simply stalking away from her as though she hadn't spoken to him.

As though she wasn't there at all.

It went on like that.

Nova hadn't realized he'd be this upset. Even before when he first started to hate her, he didn't go to such lengths to completely shun her.

When they sat next to each other he didn't even look her way. He seemed to radiate anger whenever she was close. During lunch was the worst.

Her and Shoji found their table, the moment Nova sat down Iida stood up and excused himself. Leaving the lunch room all together. The manner he did so made it obvious that it was because of her.

She didn't want that. She didn't want him to leave behind his friends and other classmates just to get away from her. And she didn't understand, she figured it would be uncomfortable... But didn't think it would make him hate her even more.

She no longer wanted to talk to him about it. She just wanted to turn as invisible as he was making her feel and hide away from everyone forever.

The rest of the group seemed to pick up on it too. But before they could ask any questions she left without a word. She wasn't very hungry anyways.

Nova walked down a few halls, looking for a quiet place to just... Sit. To be alone. There were several classes still in session, Nova passed them quickly. Finally she walked out an exit and took a breath of fresh air. It was what she needed... Air.

It was still raining, but the doot was covered. A small roof sat over a walkway between buildings, shielding her from the rain.

She closed her eyes in relief...

Until she heard the sound of some talking, that seemed to have quieted down the moment she opened the door. She opened her eyes and glanced over nervously, she was suddenly on edge. If there were other people here they probably thought she was being weird. She could always pretend she was walking to the other building, but honestly she had no idea what that building was even for.

"Just say hi. It's not that hard." A feminine voice suddenly said. It seemed to lack any emotion behind it, it was an even and logical tone.

"What?! Cut it out-"

"Hey you're Kurayami right?"

Nova looked at the two other students who were sitting in the middle of the walkway with their lunch. She recognized one, not the girl who spoke but the boy she had spoken too.

Lavender hair, big eye bags and pale skin. Shinsou Hitoshi.

With him was a stone faced girl. Her brown hair tied into two braids. She had glasses that looked like Iida's and greenish brown eyes. She stared up at Nova without expression.

"You okay? You look... Terrified." She said blankly. Nova's face turned red.

"I-I'm fine. Sorry for interrupting-"

"No! I-it's fine." Shinsou said, he almost seemed panicked. Like he didn't want her to turn away yet. "You can't just say stuff like that Tammy!"

"Why not? She does." The girl said, looking at him with a frown.

Shinsou stood up. "You sure you're... Okay?" He said uneasily. He remembered the times back in middle school. The look she had when someone was being mean to her, how she'd try her best to get away and hide.

He had always promised himself that if that happened again... He'd put a stop to it. Like he had been too scared to do in middle school.

"I'm fine." She said again, standing there like a deer in the headlights.

There was a moment of silence.

"You gonna stand there? Or like... Talk to each other. Thought you said you guys were friends." Tammy muttered, munching on her sandwich.

Nova glanced at Shinsou who's face turned red.

"D-did I? I just meant we knew each other... A little..." He muttered in embarrassment.

"Whatever." Tammy shrugged. "Just sit down, your awkwardness is hurting me."

Nova complied. Not wanting to keep standing there like an idiot, it was better than sitting in the cafeteria anyways. The sound and smell of the rain. Her nerves started to calm down.

Plus oddly enough... Nova trusted Shinsou.

Even though she could barely remember a time when they spoke at her old school, they always seemed to have a sort of... Silent bond. Like it was them against the world, he got her. And she knew that without even having to hear him say it. It was the kind of kindred spirit that made her comfortable. Without even having to talk to him.

She wondered if it was all in her head... Or if maybe he felt the same way.

A/N: well there's your Tammy Cameo...

Readers who haven't read normal are probably sick of these references 💀
