The house was dark and quiet. Despite this, no one really noticed when he snuck in.
Careful feet padded on the floor outside the window. Whoever this intruder was, he moved with learned precision. His eyes adjusting to the dark of the room quickly. He pulled out a pistol from his pocket, arming himself.
Where was she?
It was the one thought on his mind as he scanned the room he entered. A dining room area. Seemed to be a mess, papers, wrappers from microwavable food and bottles of various cheap alcohol. The latter made him confident this would be easy.
He silently walked down a small hallway. There were three doors, this place was small. She had to be behind one of them... He crept forward, making it to the farthest one. Made sense for it to be the farthest from the front entrance. His breathing and footsteps were silent as he carefully turned the door handle.
It made a light creaking sound that made him pause, but then he pushed it the rest of the way open with the gun sitting warmly in his hand. The creaking continued as hinges that desperately needed to be oiled complained loudly.
He looked inside, there were two beds. Lots of clothes spread around on the floor. The one thing that gave him pause were the toys there too. A few dolls and stuffed animals. His eyes went to one of the beds as whoever was bundled in it moved slightly.
He could see just the top of a blonde head. But the form was too small to be his target. He pushed the door open just slightly to check the other.
And a bottle crashed over his head.
His eyes rolled back and even with his gun he was no match for the deliberate and practiced hit on the back of his head. He fell to his knees and then in his face.
"...nice try." The woman behind him dropped the bottle on his already busted head and rubbed her eyes. Her speech just slightly slurred as though she had just a little to much to drink.
She pulled her bleach blonde hair into a sloppy bun and groaned in exhaustion. She glanced in the open door and saw the kid still curled up and perfectly asleep. Back facing her. She then sighed and slowly closed the door, before grabbing the legs of the intruder and dragging him away.

Nova woke up after her first night at Zel's house. The woman crashed on the couch again and Nova had taken up a spare room. She didn't know why Zel didn't sleep in one either, but from the way the house looked Nova was beginning to think it was actually temporary.
Zel traveled across Japan when fighting, it was possible she had different bases in different cities. Maybe this house was the one she used when she stayed in Musutafu. It would explain the lack of personal touch.
Nova was up before Zel, but she was used to the feeling. Living at Junshi had forced her to become an early riser. Waking up between the hours of five and six on instinct. Only to really sit in bed or wonder around the house until the sun finished rising.
She wondered if Zoey was okay, she wished the younger girl had a phone of her own. Though she tended to swipe Karon's often enough that it practically was hers.
Zoey probably wasn't even awake yet. What if Karon didn't wake her up and she missed school? That girl could sleep through anything, and stay that way all day until she was forced to get up. Getting her to fall asleep at night though, was a completely different story. Any sort of excitement kept her up. And if you let her, she'd yap till morning about whatever was on her mind. Nova felt a warmth in her chest as she thought about the little girl.
She took a shower instead of sitting around. The water was warm for the entire duration. Which she wasn't quite used too. It felt nice though, she let it run as hot as she could stand. Washing her hair while thinking about what her mentor could possibly have planned. Training? Or another patrol? She said the test she wanted Nova to take was tomorrow, which was too close for comfort.
Zel explained the test and permit farther during their patrol today.
A Temporary hero quirk permit wasn't an actual license. It was a permit given by the hero commission via a test that allows civilians to act as heroes under the guidance of actual pros. Usually it was used if the pros ever needed help from someone who didn't have a license. Like if a crime case required a specific person to aid because of their own expertise or information.
It was used temporarily in most cases, but according to Zel it could also be obtained by aspiring heroes. If acquired with the purpose of eventually being converted into an actual provisional license and then a pro license, the hero commission will watch any public action you take for around a month or two. Then either take it away or convert it, depending on your behavior.
To obtain one you had to take a few tests. One physical and one on paper. Apparently it was easier than the exam for the provisional hero licenses. Which only take place twice a year.
Though the test is easier and takes place without interaction with others seeking the permit it's less popular due to it's slower results. UA students never really took it. Waiting instead to immediately receive their licenses in their second year.
Nova turned off the water. She'd rather the other classmates didn't know she was doing the test, she didn't want them to think she believed she was better than them or anything. In reality...
She really was just doing it because that's what Zel wanted.

Kain didn't know how long exactly he had been locked up. but he figured it couldn't have been longer than a week. Still no one came, which added even more anger to his already hateful attitude. He was locked up like some petty criminal, because he recognized a villain that no one else saw. It pissed him off beyond belief. He wasn't the bad guy here, HE wasn't the one named Kurayami, The one bringing other Villains into the school.
But they didn't listen to him.
"You have nothing to worry about. he hasn't had access to any fluid besides water since he got here." A officer informed another. Kain was close enough to hear, scoffing as they spoke about him like he wasn't even there.
"He hasn't been violent but not cooperative either. like most prisoners his age. The transfer should be easy enough." He continued. Kain knew what they were talking about, they were taking him to another facility as he waited out his trial. one where he'd have to interact with real villains, real criminals. He glared ahead with distaste. Hating the idea.
The officer was right when he said hadn't been violent so far, but he was a fool in thinking that meant anything whatsoever. As they loaded him into a police car, hands cuffed behind him he took a few deep breaths. This was his one chance.
He silently struggled in the backseat, growing his stingers and jamming them into the cuffs. The car kept speeding down the road but the passenger turned at the sound of something breaking. The bars separating Kain from the front seat couldn't stop a foot long stinger from piercing the passenger. Venom dripping from its tip. The driver swerved around as the passenger dropped limply to the side.
Keeping Kain from fluids to nullify his venom only made him discover his greatest ever...
One made of blood. He didn't know exactly what it did yet, this officer was his first Guinea pig. But he had a suspicion. One that proved right as the man slumped over immediately, blood leaking from his cold dead lips.
By biting the inside of his own cheek until he bled enough to swallow Kain created a venom strong enough to cause instant death. He held the tip of his stinger to the neck of the driver.
"I'd suggest you pull over."

Also sorry it's been a hot minute. I graduate literally next week so things have been kinda busy. On top of that I'm working and babysitting so I don't have much free time to write rn.
Hopefully that will change soon!!!
