Legacy

3: 𝚁𝚎𝚍

Nova waited for the crowd to move before she ran. Apparently there wasn't going to be a countdown. There weren't any in real battles. Or at least that's what Mic said over the speakers.

She stayed in the middle of the pack until it dispersed. Then she kept running in a straight direction. She closed her eyes and tried to reach out, using her quirk to its fullest abilities.

She had never been trained with her quirk. She barely knew what she was doing. But she could still feel the large moving metal monsters around each corner.

All she had to do was touch one.

Nova had heard legends of her father. How he could crumble metal without even moving, Nova couldn't do that. Sure she could move it by simply moving her own body, but she couldn't fully change or manipulate its form unless she touched it.

Some metals were easier than others as well. Like these robots, they were crazy big and obviously expensive. But the actual materials were cheap and weak.

A two pointer charged around the corner, locking in on her. Nova waved her arms to the side, with loud creaks it started to slowly fall over as she commanded. Once she got close enough to touch it the metal crumbles in on itself. Completely crushed.

"Two points."

She thought to herself. That wasn't that hard...

A three pointer swung its arms at her, Nova raised up a metal plate from the broken one underneath her to block the fist of the new attacker. Sending several more like spears through it.

"Five points."

She kept going like this. Using the parts of the robots she defeated to destroy others.

She avoided using them as armor. Simply having them float around her like shields. She didn't want to look like Rikko Kurayami. Like her father. One of the examinees might notice the similarities. Everyone did eventually...

Nova ducked into an alley. Taking a breather. If she was right, she had about sixty points already. With ten minutes still left on the clock. Meaning she was totally ahead of the game... Or maybe she was wrong and she had to get way more then eighty to be in the middle of the crowd?

She peaked out at the other visible examinees. Checking out their quirks and fighting styles. There was a boy, tall with white hair and multiple extremities coming from his back. All of which seemed to be pure muscle. Minus eyes and ears at the end of a few. He used them to smash through smaller one pointers that came his way.

She felt a little exhausted but... Not like she couldn't keep fighting. She still had a little more stamina left. The worst pain was in her right leg, she was beginning to limp.

But that happened Everytime she used it too much. The limp and dull pain showed up during training, it wasn't anything serious. It was a side effect left over from a bad break when she was a kid. Apparently It never healed properly and still brought small amounts of pain.

Nova breathed in to calm her nerves and then forced herself to run back out of the alley and continue the exam.

Aizawa watched the screen. He didn't quite understand what was special about this girl who he had mentally dubbed 'red' due to her hair. And the fact that Nezu refused to tell him her name.

She showed potential, her quirk was definitely a strong one. But there were hundreds of other examinees that were just as strong. A blonde boy destroyed robots with explosions. A boy with blue hair ran at extreme speeds and kicked them apart.

But Nezu didn't have specific teachers watching them.

The teacher sighed and kept his eyes on his own screen. It felt a little creepy, watching one specific student like this.

She suddenly changed course, ducking into an alleyway between two tall buildings. The cameras switched positions, giving Aizawa a better view.
Red just stood there, she was breathing deeply but it didn't seem like she was completely exhausted. It was kinda odd, how other students were running wild trying to collect as many points as possible. But she had just... Stopped.

Aizawa checked her points. Sixty-five. Not bad for the amount of time she's been fighting so far. She definitely could pass a hundred with plenty of time to spare. The only hint of her slowing down was a small limp.

He watched as Red stood there for a few moments. Looking out at the other students before she quickly stepped out. Seemingly ready to fight again. She seemed to be a natural at it. The way she moved. She was quick and had good instincts and reflexes. Using her quirk like it was an extension of herself.

But this time... She wasn't fighting the same. She was primarily dodging and blocking. Protecting herself rather than attacking. But it wasn't because she couldn't.

She destroyed one of every three robots she came across. Almost like... She was purposefully getting less points. The counter that had been rapidly going up a few minutes ago slowed to every few minutes. She was also only attacking one pointers.

Aizawa glared at the screen. What the hell was she doing? Wasn't she taking this seriously?

He heard the voices of the teachers around him. They were about to let out the zero pointer. In all of the battle grounds. He saw the girl stumble slightly before getting her bearings. Looking in the direction of the zero pointer.

She seemed to hesitate, as most students did. In shock over the sheer size of the thing. It was a bit overkill Aizawa had always thought so. But it was an interesting surprise to throw at them, see how they reacted.

He watched Red, waiting for her own reaction.

The ground shook and Nova stumbled. Trying to stay on her feet. She felt something huge and metal come out of the ground.

Another villain robot? No way, this one was giant.

She ran across the street and started to scale a fire escape. The thing was behind some buildings, out of view. She got to the roof and ran across it, trying to get a good look.

It was a robot. But it wasn't a one, two or even three pointer. She recognized it from the paper... It was a Zero pointer. The one Mic said they should just avoid.

That was way bigger than what Nova had expected. She looked down as all the other students ran from it. She figured she should probably do the same. While the robot wouldn't give her any points, attacking it would draw extra attention to herself. She didn't really want that right now. So she stayed on her rooftop, looking down. The robot was passing the street underneath her, she was about to start running before it got close but stopped.

Another student, a girl with short dark hair had been running. But tripped and coincidentally got her foot stuck in a piece of metal debris.

Nova stopped and watched as the robot got closer and closer to her.

There was no way it would actually crush her. UA wouldn't let it do that, it would redirect soon... Right?

She freed her foot but was struggling to get back on her feet, now she was obviously panicking. Which wasn't good.

Nova grabbed a metal pole from the roof and quickly changed it's shape. It morphed from a six foot long straight pole into a long thin wire. She wrapped one end around her hand and sent the other flying across the street, attaching to another building.

With ease she swung across the street, grabbing the other girl under her arm and using the wire to swiftly swing into a safe alleyway.

She stumbled and fell, unable to properly get her footing right. Falling with the girl under her arm.

She quickly sat up and watched as the robot crept right over where the other examinee had just been laying. Maybe UA wouldn't have stopped it after all... Would they actually have just let her get crushed??

"You... Okay?" Nova asked awkwardly. Looking down at the other girl.

She was panting, staring up at Nova in shock. She had dark eyes and hair that looked purple. Along with unique ears with what looked like aux cords hanging down.

"Y-yeah..." She muttered. "Thank you... I was really... K-kinda panicking out there."

"You sure you aren't hurt?" Nova asked, looking at the girls leg. Her pants were ripped but other than that she seemed to be okay.

"I'm sure." The girl nodded. "How... How much time do we have left?"

"Can't be more than a couple minutes." Nova muttered. Her voice was low, shy. She didn't like talking too much or too loudly. She was awkward when it came to communication. Considering the fact that she was used to being shut down or put off by her peers.

"A couple minutes?! I have to get more points!" She jumped up in a panic. "Thank you so much! I have to go!"

With that she ran off. Leaving Nova alone, standing awkwardly as she realized what had just happened...

She had just... Saved someone...
