11: 𝙲𝚒𝚐𝚊𝚛𝚎𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚜
Nova jogged out of UA towards Zoey's school. Hoping she'd make it in time to walk her little sister home.
Though unfortunately her haste caused a collision with one of her classmates. Tenya Iida. Of course it had to be Iida. She apologized and kept going.
Honestly she just wanted to get as far away from UA as possible right now. She didn't want to be here anymore. Though she knew she'd return tomorrow. Her feet pounded on the ground as she ran, each step sending a sharp pain up her leg towards her old injury. She really had been too hard on it today.
But she ran anyways. She didn't have a bus pass or any money for a train. So it was pretty much her only option. Unless Karon was gonna pick her up, which was highly unlikely.
When she made it to the school gate she was out of breath. She leaned against the wall taking a few good breaths in. Waiting to see Zoey. Who happily ran over. Nova saw she had been sitting on a bench, waiting for her. Making her feel a little bad for taking so long.
"Nova!!!" Zoey hugged the taller girl's waist and looked up at her. "Was it awesome?! You and UA was all I could think about all day!"
"It was pretty crazy." Nova chuckled. "Tell me about yours first. Anything interesting happen?"
Zoey and Nova started to walk, the smaller girl gripping her hand. "Not really. Just boring stuff. Talking about ourselves and things we wanted to learn. I didn't pay much attention. But hey I made new friends!"
"That's good." Nova smiled. Seems every day of school Zoey makes new friends. Nova was glad. Zoey always had people that loved her.
"You're limping again... Did you do crazy hero training?" Zoey noticed. Even though Nova tried to hide her limp, nothing got past her.
Nova chuckled again. "Yeah, we had a big physical test today. We used quirks and everything."
"You got to use your quirk?! At school??? That's awesome!" Zoey said with stars in her eyes. "I'm gonna go to UA when I'm a highschooler. It seems sooo awesome!"
"Yeah I guess so..." Nova said with a sigh. "I'm super tired though..."
"Hm... What about you? Did... Did you make any friends?" Zoey asked. The tone in her voice was... Worried.
She was too young to be worried.
"Kinda I guess, I talked to a lot of the girls in my class. While we were getting ready. This one girl, Jirou was really nice." Nova told the truth, but strayed away from the end of the story. She didn't need to Let Zoey know how lonely her experience became after her name was said. How there was little to no conversation in the locker rooms after the test. Just a few girls mumbling about how tired they were. Before they rushed out quickly.
Nova knew it was because of her....

Nova pulled her legs to her chest. Looking at the sky.
She was sitting on the old fire escape outside her window. It was late, almost midnight at this point. She knew she should get some sleep. That training would be worse tomorrow.
But she wanted to enjoy the small amount of time she had before then. Finding comfort in being home. Even if her home wasn't that comfortable.
She bit her lip and looked down. Nestled between her fingers was a paper cigarette. Lit on the end, burning slowly. She put it to her lips.
Nova didn't know exactly when she started smoking. Sometime after her father was arrested. She saw adults do it, her foster parents or cops she was around. Even strangers on the streets. In movies people did it when they were stressed.
At some point Nova picked up a discarded half smoked bud.
She also found comfort in the smoke. In tobacco and nicotine. That was years ago. Now Nova swiped one or two from Karons stash. She had tons. Enough that a few a week going missing was unnoticed.
Nova only did it when she needed it. When she had a long day.
Junshi had almost broken her. She didn't have any access for months while there. She thought she wouldn't need them again.
UA was proving that theory wrong.
First the exam, then the wait, now the first day....
She wasn't going to quit anytime soon.

Nova liked her classes. How she was able to sit quietly. Not worrying about socializing because no one around her was doing it. Having something to focus on, a teacher giving a lesson at the front of the room. Was far better than having free time with a bunch of people too nervous to speak with her.
She wished she had a window seat though. Instead of sitting next to Iida and the bird headed boy. Whose name was actually Tokoyami. She didn't have much of a view to distract her so instead she paid attention to all of her individual teachers. Taking notes and occasionally doodling on the paper.
Today her hair was pulled back in a long braid. To protect it, plus she knew she'd probably go through some crazy training today. So it would probably be for the best to tie it up. Without the curls compacting it, the braid showed its length. Falling to the middle of her back.
She nervously chewed the end of her pencil as the clock clicked. Getting closer and closer to her heroics period. Where they'd go train again. She assumed it would be with Mr Aizawa. Who had run home room. But apparently they'd also have other pro heroes teach them throughout the school year.
There was a small gap between classes. Just a few minutes where the students were left waiting for their teachers to arrive. That part was the worst. But Nova always found that it was easier to just stay in her seat, reading a book. Most people stayed away from her anyways, this way she wasn't just awkwardly staring into space.
Some students took out their phones, but Nova didn't have much to do on hers. It was a cheap flipphone with prepaid minutes. She technically only had a hundred calls and a thousand messages on it. Not that she really needed any more.
She never really called or texted anyone. It was more for emergencies.
The only thing she used it for was music. Which she did now. Putting in a single earbud as her eyes skimmed the page.
"I AM HERE!!! COMING THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A HERO!!!!"
Nova almost jumped out of her chair at the sudden loud voice coming from the doorway. Taking her completely out of her calm state.
"It's all Might!" A classmate whispered happily.
They were right. In the doorway was the symbol of peace himself. Dressed in his silver age costume wearing a big smile. Her anxiety spiked tenfold.
"So he is a teacher! This year is going to be totally awesome!" Another boy said. He had spiked up red hair, similar in color to Nova's own.
"Is he wearing his silver age costume? Ribbit?"
"I'm getting goosebumps... It's so retro..."
He walked over to the middle of the class and struck a pose. Nova shrunk back in her seat. Of course All Might was teaching today.
"Welcome to the most important class here at UA!! Think of it as... Heroics 101!!!" He said. His face was wearing a smile. But at the same time was expressionless.
A smile was his default. Almost how his face always rested. So it was difficult to read what he was actually feeling. Nova couldn't even see his eyes. His face covered in shadow...
Just as she remembered it.
