Recovery
Chase's POV
Aura was out of surgery. She was still pretty out of it, so she kept on poking her knub with her good arm. I laughed for a minute and walked over to her. "That'll mess your arm up." I removed her hand from her stump and she looked dazed. She looked up at me for a moment. "We're still working on your new arm. It'll be done soon."
One week later
I went to visit Aura every day. She was being released, so I walked down there after class. She was standing there with her same old crooked grin. She'd put back on her mentor's clothes, execpt we'd modified them to have armor around her chip and the sleeve on her right arm was smaller. She crossed her arms. "I think this is the first time I've ever seen you late. I'm surprised, Chase." I smiled. "Don't count on it again. We have a surprise for you, come this way." We linked arms and I led her to the training area. "Close your eyes. Don't peek." She closed them. "Don't expect me to put my hand over them, the only one I have is currently occupied by you." I laughed and opened the door. "Surprise!" Everyone jumped out. She opened her eyes and laughed. I led her to the stage where Davenport was waiting with a box. "For you, Aura." He opened the box and her mechanical arm was sitting in it. He picked it up and attached it, then he pulled out a remote. "Do you like it? This button will hook it to your nerves permantly." She nodded and grinned. "Thank you." He pressed the button and it clicked for a moment. She held up her arm and wiggled her fingers. "Wow! Thank you so much." He hugged her. "And thank you for saving my children's lives. And my ungrateful robot nephew's." She laughed and stepped away. The rest of the party was mostly everyone who hadn't visited her coming over to see if she weren't a projection. We made some small talk with those who had visited, like Spin. After a few hours, it died down and people started going to bed. The only ones who were left were me, Aura, and my family. We were leaning against the wall while Adam popped balloons. "You need to get a leash for Adam." Aura remarked. We laughed. "We've tried. He usually breaks them. One time, we met a bionic dog who used the override app on him. We ended up playing a game of catch with him." She laughed and smiled. She leaned over and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I blushed and Bree started going "ooooo". We laughed, and pretty soon we decided to go to bed.
"Goodnight, everyone." I called. I shut off the lights and stepped into my capsule.
