Kira knelt down.

She sat on her knees in the grass on top of the hill that was just a short walk from her house. Under a tree.

She placed a hand on one of the stones. Holding the names of her father and mother. It was the first time since moving here she had braved the hill. Having avoided it until now.

She looked at the stones. Three. One for her mother and father and another small one. A continuation of her father's. Inscribed on the added small stone was simply "beloved brother of Kyra Kokoa; Nana Shimura."

Added by her uncle not so long ago.

Kira had thrown out wilting flowers and added new ones. She now stared at the grave of her mother.

Mother.

The word seemed to be tainted now.

"Grow up... And become a mother."

Kira shook her head. No her mother wasn't like that.

"The closest way to become a God."

No. No she was lying. Oshita was crazy. Kira couldn't keep thinking about her as though she had been right. As though she spoke for all mothers. She had been manipulative until her final breath, maybe that was her plan. To say something so haunting, trying to disturb Kira all her life.

It sure was working.

She thought of her own mother. He smilies. The little things she would do. Blowing the bubbles from the sink into Kira's hair, holding her hand until she fell asleep all those nights ago. Humming as she brushed her hair.

......

"Your hair looks so pretty mommy." Kira said sitting on the counter as her mother brushed out her long chestnut brown hair.

"Awh thank you very much Kira." Her mother hummed. "One day your hair will be just as pretty."

"My hair?" Kira asked, holding onto a tangled lock of her own messy black hair.

"Of course it will. One day you'll be the prettiest girl in the world." Her mom laughed, it sounded like music. A joyful melody.

"But you're the prettiest in the world." Kira scrunched up her nose. Whenever Kira thought of beauty, she could only think of her mother. Her mother was the standard of all things lovely.

Her mother laughed and hugged her daughter. "Thank you Kira. One day you'll have long beautiful hair like mommy. And you'll be just as pretty as me."

"Can I wear makeup like you?" Kira asked with excitement.

"Of course you can baby." The woman said, tapping the young girls nose with a finger. "When you want to feel fancy."

Fancy. Her mother never once said make-up was for beauty. Never wanting her daughter to feel like she was less without it. Instead makeup was a decoration. Something to add to an already lovely canvas.

Kira giggled and held her mom's hand. "Mommy, I don't want to be prettier than you. You'll always be the prettiest. With the prettiest hair." She said, holding onto her hand.

"Thank you Sweetie." Her mother said, giving her a kiss on the forehead.

......

Kira stared again at the stone. The memory of that one day spent with her mother flashing through her mind along with countless others.

That day... It had been so... Insignificant.

Her mom had taken Kira to the store. Then they came back home and watched one of Kira's shows. Then later on they got ready for bed together, making sure to brush their hair.

That's all. A small memory in a small boring day.

Kira wanted it back. She wanted to go back and cherish every moment she had spent with her family. To go back and hang into every detail possible. How had she not done that? How did she not realize how little time they had? How short life really was?

All of it was over in a blink of an eye.

She would do anything to have her back.

Do anything to spend another day with her.

Kira would do anything to save her mother.

Kira stopped. Her breath hitching for a moment. Anything. Anything to protect her mother.

Something in her mind that hadn't yet been completely understood just clicked. In an instant.

Kira got up and bowed to the two graves.

"I'm sorry... But I have to go." She whispered. "I'll be back soon, I promise."

The hair fell to the floor.

Kira held the newly grown locks of black hair and cut through all of it with the pair of metal scissors she found in the junk drawer. Cutting it back around her jaw and ears she same way she had done so many times before.

Shortening her bangs and layering the rest of her hair. It almost looked the same as it did the day she started UA.

She grabbed her phone and dialed a number. "I'm cashing in my favor. Come pick me up."

Not much else was said between her and the pro before the phone was hung up. Only that she would explain later and that he was on his way.

Kira stared at herself in the mirror.

Chopped hair and three jagged scars over her eye. A pinkish color that was thick and obvious on her pale skin. She still looked thinner than she had once. But it wasn't dangerously thin anymore.

She stared into her dark brown eyes. Untouched by the scars, unharmed. Her vision just as clear as it had been all her life.

The prettiest girl in the world huh?

She left the bathroom, going to her room and sorting through the clothes she had. It wasn't much and it was all new, instead of taking it from the dorms All might paid for her to get more.

All Might was At UA. He would be worried if he came home and she wasn't there. She called him.

"Kira! Is everything alright? Do you need something?" He asked. His tone giving away his slight worry.

"I'm going out so I might not be home when you get back. I just didn't want you too worry." Kira said. Pulling out jeans and a black tank top.

"Oh... That's good! You haven't been out for awhile. Do you want me-"

"I called Hawks. He's picking me up, I'll be perfectly safe. Don't worry." She assured him. Though she wasn't completely convinced of that.

"Alright. Have fun and please stay safe." He said anxiously.

"Course and... I made my decision." She said. "We can talk about it later though okay?"

"Really? Alright I'll see you then. Stay safe... I love you..."

Kira paused. She couldn't quite recall ever hearing him say that. Never in passing like people usually did with family members. With children and guardians.

"I love you too. Bye." She hung up and covered her mouth in shock. She knew her uncle had a similar reaction himself all the way back at UA.

It made her feel a little guilty about what she was doing. How she wasn't being completely transparent with him.

But she didn't feel too guilty too stop.

She looked in her closet one final time. Seeing a light blue jacket folded neatly. She stared at it and reached in hesitantly. Before taking it and putting it on.

She walked into the kitchen and looked at the ticket and the license sitting before her. She picked up the ticket. Knowing what decision had to be made.

She has to choose safety.

She looked at it with a small smile.

Safety.

She ripped it in half.

She grabbed the license and shoved it in her pocket.

But not safety for her. She had a job to protect the safety of OTHERS.

She was a hero after all.
