"...are you allowed to do this?"

Kira glanced up at Zane. She was leaning against the wall. Sitting up for the first time in forever.

"Huh?" Zane asked. Tilting his head. This time he was on the opposite side of the bars. Sitting cross legged and looking at her.

"Does your mom know you visit me like this?" Kira clarified. Zane came almost every day. He was the one who brought her food and water now. He also occasionally checked her wounds. His main concern was her eye, but he said it was healing pretty well.

"Oh... Well sorta." He shrugged. "We haven't talked about it. I... I go when she's busy. When she's out or in a meeting. So she's not concerned with what I'm doing." He admitted sheepishly.

Kira frowned and looked at her hand. Her broken arm wrapped up and stiff. She was still wearing the same clothes as when she came here. Which unfortunately was her school uniform.

"Do you..."

She glanced up as Zane started to speak again. "What?"

"Do you think I'm pathetic?" He asked, looking down in shame. "For following and obeying her? Even though I don't agree with anything she does..."

"I mean... It's a little sad. But I don't think you're pathetic per se..." She admitted. "But I understand why. That you don't feel like you have any other options... That you owe it to her."

"Right... Yeah..." Zane scratched the back of his neck. "Everyone in the league thinks I'm pathetic... I can see it when they look at me."

"Well the league of villains aren't exactly stand up citizens." Kira chuckled dryly.

"T-thats true I guess." Zane stammered. Slightly disturbed that she answered his thoughts Instead of words. "Hey is... Is your quirk really that bad?"

He asked. Tilting his head.

"What do you mean?" Kira prompted.

"Like... You said you know... That my head would explode? How can mind-reading do that?" He asked curiously.

It wasn't in a 'I wanna know because I'm gonna have it' kinda way. It was a genuine curiosity that was almost childlike.

Kira smiled. "Well maybe your head exploding would be a little dramatic..." She admitted. "But it definitely wouldn't be safe or healthy for you to use it."

"Really? Is your brain really special or something?" Zane asked again. Kira shrugged.

"Not as far as I know. It's more like I've built up a tolerance too it. You see mind-reading... It's like hearing. I can't stop listening to someone as they think. No matter how many people are around." Kira explained. "So it's like being in a room full of people talking out loud in all sorts of volumes and tones. It gets pretty painful sometimes..."

"That sounds awful." He wrinkled up his nose. But then a thought started to creep into his mind. "If it hurts that much... Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to lose it..."

He then blinked and looked up at her. "S-sorry... Just a thought." Zane Mumbled. Knowing she heard. "If your quirk is so bad... And gets you into trouble... Why are you so scared of losing it?"

Kira looked down. "Because I feel like I need it. Quirks... They're like an extra part of you. Like an arm of an eye. I've had it for so long... I can no longer imagine what it would be like to stand next to a person and not know... Exactly what they thought of everything. Of Me." She whispered. "Besides... What makes you think your mom will let me live after you have my quirk?"

Zane's eyes widened. "I didn't... I didn't think about that... That's not... That's not right..." He whispered. "M-maybe I could talk her out of killing you."

"I think I'd be okay with dying at that point." Kira admitted.

"How could you say that!" Zane asked. His tone bolder than it had been before. "There's more to life than quirks you know... A-and people lose limbs or eyes or their hearing and still are able to recover afterwards with a little help!"

Kira blinked. "I'm sorry?" She hadn't expected that statement to work him up so much.

"What about your friends? Your family? You'd give them up over a quirk?" He asked. Then slumped back. "I don't understand you people."

"You people?" Kira quited and raised an eyebrow.

"People with quirks." Zane said with a frown.

Kira looked for a second and nodded. "Right... I guess that makes sense... Maybe I was being a little dramatic earlier. The point of the matter is it would be harder to stay sane for me without my quirk."

"Right..." Zane Mumbled. "I guess all we can do is... Hope they fail to break one for all out."

"Do... Do you know when they're planning on trying?" Kira asked hoping she could get a little information from the guy.

He shrugged. "I don't know. I think they're waiting on Shigaraki though..."

"Right. And where is he?" Kira asked. She hadn't seen Shigaraki since... The mall invited. Hard to believe she's only seen her cousin twice. The first time he didn't even know she was there.

He looked at her and shrugged again. "People don't tell me these things." Zane said simply. He was right.

The Villains didn't seem to fully trust him with their secrets. He wasn't a member of the league or the liberation army. He was just a guy that tagged along. Of all the people to keep Kira company of course it had to be the person who didn't know what was going on...

She sighed and leaned back.

"Sorry..." Zane stammered. "I really am useless..."

"How long have I been here?" Kira asked with a frown. He glanced up, slightly happy that he knew the answer. But also a little worried because of what the answer was.

"Two weeks and a few days..." Zane admitted.

She closed her eye and smiled. "So it's the sixteenth?" She asked. Kira had been trying her best to keep up with the days.

"Mhm." He nodded. "It is..."

Kira chuckled and sighed. "It's my birthday." She whispered. A wistful smile over her lips, she thought of all the things that might've happened if she hadn't been taken. How Bakugou would tell Kirishima who would tell the others. Maybe Denki would manage to surprise her with something. Her uncle might've taken her to a restaurant and Aizawa would have let her hug him...

Instead she was here. Sitting on the floor next to the son of her kidnapper talking about how long she'd been sitting there...

What a happy sweet sixteen.
