41: 𝐴𝑛𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑙𝑖𝑓𝑒
"Kira?"
She looked around and saw the source of the voice. That nervous feeling in her chest died down. "Oh hey Todoroki."
The duel haired boy tilted his head curiously. "What are you doing out here?" He asked her.
"I could ask you the same thing." She leaned against a tree, not inclined to tell him she was leaving campus.
"Me and Midoriya train here sometimes. We can't always use our quirks in other areas." Todoroki explained. Kira listened and heard Midoriya's thoughts faintly. Heading back towards the dorms.
"Right." Kira nodded. Glad she bumped into Todoroki and not Deku. Especially not after that fight.
"You look... Disturbed." Todoroki noted. He looked down at her uniform. "Are you leaving campus?"
Kira hesitated. "... Maybe." She admitted. "I'm going to the police station."
"Now? Do you have permission?" He asked.
Kira frowned. "You gonna snitch?"
"I'm sorry?" He asked innocently. Not really understanding.
Kira sighed. "Nevermind... I just wanna work on the Mineta case. Get my mind off of a few things here." She looked up at the golden sky.
"You'd rather think about murder then what's going on here?" Todoroki asked with a frown. "Doesn't... Right... Help... Her... Mineta..."
"Sounds kinda morbid when you say it like that." Kira chuckled. "I just wanna get this done with."
"You're close then? Do you think it's the league?" Todoroki asked, glancing around like she was about to share a secret. He was curious, and observant. He wanted to know more.
"I do. But I don't really have much reason. It's just a hunch really." She admitted. "Anything would be a hunch at this point."
"But if it was Shigaraki why not completely destroy the remains? And that warp gate... He could have dropped the body across town. Even in another country. Why didn't they hide it?" Todoroki asked. It was a compelling question, one he had obviously been thinking about.
"That's a good question. Maybe they wanted us to find it? Like to scare us?" Kira wondered, she put a hand to her chin. "Though it did look like they at least attempted to hide it. Maybe it was a different member that killed him? And Shigaraki didn't help at all."
"Or maybe it wasn't the league at all." Todoroki added. "It's obvious to think that but... You have to look at everything. You don't want the real culprit to get away because you focus in on that single possibility."
"That's true. Thanks." Kira nodded. "Since we're talking about it you at least knew him right? Did he have any enemies?"
"Every female on campus." Todoroki stated. Without humor. "Or in the city. He treated them like dirt. Was oddly sexual all the time, even touched a few people."
Kira wrinkled up her nose. "And no one stopped him? Aizawa didn't expel him?"
"He always made it look like a... Happy accident." He frowned and Kira could see how disgusted he was. "No one could prove he did anything on purpose."
"Sounds like he was a dirt bag." Kira said with a chuckle.
"You're a vast improvement. The whole class thinks so." Todoroki nodded. It didn't seem like he was trying to flatter her or anything. He was just stating the obvious.
"Thanks Todoroki." Kira smiled.
"You... You can call me Shoto if you want." He glanced around nervously. "You used to."
Kira smiled. "Alright Shoto." She nodded. "I'm sorry, I really do wish I remembered more about you."
"It's alright." He assured her, but he still sounded a little sad. Or maybe he was always a little sad. "I understand that was a hard time for you."
"Hard... Life... Why... Me... Wish... Blank."
Kira still couldn't make out or piece together his thoughts. But she didn't have too, because he soon verbalized them.
"Sometimes I wish my memories were also blank. I still see it all in perfect detail." He put a hand to his scar without even thinking.
"I'm sorry T- Shoto." Kira put a hand on his shoulder and gave him a small smile.
"It's... It's alright. It's just... My lot in life I suppose." He said with a frown. Kira dropped her hand.
"She... Better... I wish... Another... Life..."
"I should go ahead and go now. If I want to get back at a reasonable hour." Kira chuckled and pulled her arm back. "Gotta go solve a case I guess."
"Right. Though I honestly don't see why you want justice for him." Todoroki stated with a frown.
"Not for him. If this is connected to UA at all, it means the rest of us might be in Danger. Even if it's not, there's still a murderer on the loose." She shrugged. "So unless I find out he was killed by some innocent girl, I'll put whoever did this behind bars."
"My bets on the girl. I mean with his behavior it was only a matter of time before he was shot." Todoroki said with a little humor. Kira chuckled, was that a joke?
She waved and turned to walk away. Ready to go investigate. She heard Todoroki start to walk away as well. Both ready to go their own separate ways.
But something stopped Kira. A nagging thought in the back of her mind.
Then as she paid more attention to the thought.... her blood ran cold. She stopped in place, her mind thinking. Repeating what he said over and over again.
What did he just say?
"My bets on the girl... I mean with his behavior it was only a matter of time before he was shot."
Her hands started to shake as he began to walk away.
"Hey Todoroki?" Kira whispered, her voice wavering.
"Yeah?" He asked. Stopping in his own tracks. He turned but saw she hadn't. Her back was still facing him.
"How..." Her head slowly turned as she looked at him. "How did you know he was shot?"
He tilted his head. "Aizawa told us." He stated.
"No he didn't. Neither of us did, at least not when infront of the class." Kira shook her head.
They hadn't said a word about the bullet wounds. Aizawa had concealed most of the details about the death since the case was fresh and they weren't supposed to share too many details.
"He told me separately. I asked him about it, like I asked you." Todoroki said with a straight face.
Kira stared at him, then forced herself to smile. Even though her muscles felt like jelly. "Oh, that makes sense." She said, turning away from him again. "See you around Shoto." She chuckled.
He didn't. She took a few steps then heard a sharp quick crackle behind her. Her foot stopped before she could take another step.
She was frozen to the ground.
